END UPDATE

First thing's first (per KFFL):

Bills | Team out of Turner race
Fri, 27 Apr 2007 16:29:15 -0700

John Clayton, of ESPN, reports the Buffalo Bills are out of the running in acquiring San Diego Chargers RB Michael Turner.

Interesting. I didn't have much hope (although there was some hope, for sure), but it looks like it will come down to the Packers or Titans for Turner's services. Brandon Jackson, anyone?

OK, now for the mock. Sure, at this point these mock drafts are absolutely pointless. Nobody knows what the Raiders are gonna do at #1, let alone what any team is going to do throughout the entire seven rounds. But I'm just cocky enough to think I can make a good guess; at the very least it'll give us something more to talk about. Here we go:

1-12: Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State
2-43: Tanard Jackson, CB, Syracuse
3-74: Brandon Jackson, RB, Nebraska
3-92: Quincy Black, LB, New Mexico
4-111: Laurent Robinson, WR, Illinois State
6-184: Mike Otto, OT, Purdue
7-222: Marcus Hamilton, CB, Virginia
7-239: Deljuan Robinson, DT, Mississippi State

There you have it. These are all guys I personally like as prospects and all guys who fit what the team needs and what Levy and the front office value as people. Critique it as you like.

Feel free to offer your own mock drafts as well - I'd love to see what everyone thinks mere hours before the real thing!

P.S. If you're looking for some of the best analysis on today's draft prospects on the web, look no further than the stellar work put together by some of the wonderful writers at Buffalo Rumblings! By position:

Re: Source
Got it from KFFL. The real source, obviously, is Clayton, so take his lunacy for what it's worth. Sometimes he's right... right?

Peter King agrees
Peter king thinks the bills will take Posluszny as well.  I personally hope that Marv doesn't have to take him, cuz God willing Willis or AP will be A Bill at #12 instead.  But I guess I could live with it.  I remember when I watched him his junior year before the knee injury in the bowl game and I thought he was a real special player.  I think he brings that A.J. hawk ability although not as big.

Re: Willis/AP
I agree 100%.  If either of them falls to 12, the Bills will take them in a heartbeat.  My Posluszny pick is banking on the notion that neither of those guys will be there - it's an understatement that both are hot commodities heading into Saturday.  Posluszny, IMO, is the best consolation prize in the draft.

Who do you like as far as mock picks? Anything you'd like to offer as far as how you'd approach the full draft if you were the GM?

All Righty Then...
Time to get foolish.

A preface:  I'm going to be cheap and use pairings sometimes.  Basically, ESPECIALLY with our current OBD regime, I think that there are going to be a couple picks where even we go "Who?".  Not sure about that, but we'll see...

If this thing with SD gets done, that will affect things.  Will a swap of firsts get it done?  (There's a big question mark in my mind over the validity of Clayton's above claim, for a few reasons.)  However, I'm going to assume not...

Here we go.

Round 1:  Might as well stick to my guns.  Mayock, be right!  Okoye/Carriker.  Incidentally, if the Turner + First Swaps happens, I would potentially say Harrell.  But that's another matter...  LINE DOMINANCE IN THE TAMPA-2 IS OUR UTMOST CONCERN IN MY MIND.

Round 2:  Leonard or Jarrett!  If Jarrett drops, he'll be extremely tempting.  I think Leonard would fit far better than a lot of people think.

Round 3a:  Black.  I think he fits the Bill.  (cough)  Or the best CB available.

Round 3b:  LB Shaw or (if Leonard was not chosen) best RB available.

Round 4:  Best WR (Ball?  Robinson?) or CB (I just have no intelligent clue on the CBs this draft.  I don't know why.)

Round 6:  Safety - Josh Gattis from Wake?

Round 7a:  Matt Gutierrez (what does Sean Kugler think of him?) or best QB available.

Round 7b:  UB's Upshaw (TE)?  Late G prospect?

All due respect to Brian and those brave soldiers going for specific picks!

My last mock
Unfortunately, I see Posluzny too.  I'm not very high on him as I think he's too stiff to be a great LB.

#12: Posluzny or a Willis miracle.  AD will be long gone, IMO.

#43: Marcus McCauley CB

#74: Brandon Jackson RB. If we don't take a RB in the 1st, I don't see us taking one in the 2nd either.  I'm not sure there's good value there...

#92: Quincy Black LB.  I think he's a good fit for our scheme, though his instincts scare me.

#111: Laurent Robinson WR.  I love this guy. Backup plan, Mike Walker.

#184: Gerald Alexander, S. Depth is a must.

#222: Kevin Boss, TE.  Again, depth is probably required at the position, especially if Cieslak is an H-back.

#239: DD Terry, RB.  Raw, but you can't teach speed.

Some UDFA's I'd look at, as well, though some of these guys will be picked:

Toby Korroti QB Central Missouri State
Jordan Kent WR Oregon
Braden Jones TE/FB Southern Illinois
Derek Schouman TE/FB Boise State
Rob Austin OT Troy
Trey Lewis DT Washburn
Justin Warren MLB Texas A&M
Dedrick Harrington MLB Missouri
William Gay CB Louisville
Justise Hairston RB Central Conn. St.
James Pinkney QB East Carolina

AD in round 1...at 12
I have been saying it's been a possibility for months (not here, but on message boards elsewhere) and now more then ever I beleive that it could happen.

The Browns look like they're going to take Quinn and if not him then Thomas.

I've never been sold on Minnesota liking him and recent reports indicate that they're not sold on him being a west coast offenseive back.  I agree.

Falcons could take him but it seems like they want johnson (since it looks like Det. is going to take him and keep him unless they are "blown away" with an offer, it looks as if Atlanta's chances of getting johnson have gone down). They also really like Landry, so he too could be their pick.  This is the team that worries me the most though.  If AD is still on the board at 8 and Landry and Johnson are gone (which is a good possibility) Peterson makes perfect sense for them.

I really don't see Hoston sitting at 10 and there are already rumors/reports that a deal w/ denver is already done.

so in sum, I'm rooting for the falcons to win the Calvin Johnson sweestakes because I think that would allow AD to fall right into Buffalo's lap.

We shall see... 11 hours and counting!!

My prediction AD if he falls, if not Poz at 12 (BTW i'm wearing my Penn State #31 jersey tomorrow in honor of former Penn Stater and Buffalo Bill Shane Conlon and former Penn Stater and hopefully Buffalo Bill, Paul Posluszny!)

Re: Peterson
While I certainly wouldn't be against it, I just don't see it happening.  If Peterson somehow makes it to double digits (and Houston passes on him a year after passing on Reggie Bush - God their fans would go nuts), I see GB paying out the nose to get him.

Unless, of course, they get Turner.  Then it's feasible, in my mind.

oh and my dream scenario...
is to have AD fall to the Bills at 12 and then the Bills trade back into the first round to get Poz.

Posluszny
Oh man would I absolutly be amazingly happy if he dawns a Bills jersey today!

Squirrel!
Squirrel!  Good to see you over here - keep visiting!

I think I might be almost as crazy as a lot of people see you, Squirrel - I just have a feeling that Poz is #1 on Marv's board and they'll take him no matter who's there.  I'd still prefer Willis, but I would be thrilled with Poz.

Kudos to you for sticking by your guy for so long - you might have the last laugh! It's gonna be a great day!

The Squirrel Is In The Building!
Welcome to the Terrordome, sir!

AP is DROPPING.  (The injury question is just bugging to many as a top ten pick propisition.)  I think y'all might be on to something...

If AP (or Okoye) drops, let's get them, and trade up for Poz!  I'm on board...

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 10:28 AM EDT reply actions

Dang nab it...
Raiders took the QB.  Lions got CJ.  Quinn's not gonna make it to Miami.  Blast and damn...

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 12:32 PM EDT reply actions

The Trade Winds WERE Swirling...
Did everyone just snap against the extremely high amount of trade talks going on the last few days?  We'll see.  I suddenly have the sense that there may be far fewer trades than were expected...

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 12:36 PM EDT reply actions

Re: Trades
We're only 2 picks in... give it time.  Washington's pick will really heat it up.

Personally, I don't want Quinn in Miami.  I don't think he'll amount to much more than an average QB, but if he does, I DON'T want him to be a Fin...

Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Cleveland picks Thomas...
A good pick.  Pair him with Steinbach, give Frye a bit of proper time, get another RB later...

Quinn in Miami should mean a dropping Okoye (what will Washington do?).  And he got destroyed every single game I ever watched him in (5 over the last two years).  He's vastly overrated, to me...  A good 2nd Rounder, but top ten?  No way...

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 12:46 PM EDT reply actions

Re: Thomas
Heck of a gutsy pick for the Browns.  To turn down Ohio Boy Quinn is a bold, bold move.

How sweet does the SB Nation Mock look so far? The TB/Det trade didn't happen, but as far as slots go, we're 3/3.  Gaines Adams went #4 in our mock, and he's a real possibility to go to TB as well...

Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 12:48 PM EDT reply actions

mildly surprised...
i knew Thomas was a possibility, but i am still surprised.

So what does that do to where a few players end up?

Quinn:  Vikings or Miami?  maybe miami trades up to 6 to get him?

AD: I think he's safe until at least minnestoa at 7.  Falcons at 8 and the texans at 10 are still possibilities.  I still see the texans trading out of the 10 spot though.

Another question, Will Arizona take Levi Brown now?

John I.

Bam! 4/4!
Pretty impressive, guys...

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 12:57 PM EDT reply actions

Heck yes!
Our Arizona guest took Levi Brown at pick 5.  Stay tuned... if this one's right as well, it will be uber impressive, IMO.

Who thinks Adams and Johnson still might swap teams?

OK Dock
Now you're starting to sound a bit prophetic - where are all the trades?...
Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

And... holy cow...
Washington didn't take Okoye.

Miami's gonna take Quinn.

Who else would take Okoye ahead of us?

Oh, Lord, give us this one, please...

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:21 PM EDT reply actions

Atlanta
The Falcons would take Okoye, but only if AD wasn't there.
Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, the Falcons...
Hmm.  Oops.  That's no good.

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:31 PM EDT reply actions

Yes!
They took Anderson.  I can't BELIEVE Petrino passed on his prodigy.

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

Ditto
Quinn will to go Miami. Then it gets REALLY interesting with Houston on the clock. Could Denver move up to grab Willis? How about somebody moving up for Okoye? Let's hear it; Buffalo's pick is approaching! :-D
Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 1:42 PM EDT up reply actions

wow
i'm surprised anderson passed on okoye.

Question... If miami passes on Quinn, WHO would take him?!

John I.

by jri111 on Apr 28, 2007 1:41 PM EDT reply actions

WHAT?!!!
GINN!??!  I can't believe this...  what are they thinking?

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

HAHAHA
Does it matter? It's the FINS!!! Although Ginn does scare the living daylights out of me as a returner...

Our chances to get Patrick Willis just increased dramatically.  Anyone think Levy would go Poz/David Harris over Willis at #12?

Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions

John...
I have no idea!!  He could drop to... ????

Well, I've been saying for a while there's no way he's worth a top ten pick...  but I can't believe he actually dropped out.

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:56 PM EDT reply actions

Quinn...
Is it possible we could trade down with someone who wants him?  But who?  Who really needs a QB? Jacksonville, KC, maybe GB are the only teams I see...I just hope Marv doesn't take Quinn, I will flip out.

Hopefully SF trades out of 11, so we can grab Willis!!

~K

by Kurupt on Apr 28, 2007 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

two picks till the bills
Willis, Okoye, Poz, Harris, Quinn, Hall, Revis... all still there!  wow!  maybe we find someone that would be willing to trade up for him.

Brian - yea i can see Levy doing that in a heartbeat

I still think SF takes him though.  I wonder what houston is going to do?

John I.

by jri111 on Apr 28, 2007 2:03 PM EDT reply actions

I really like Okoye
I hope he does well in Hoston.  I'm kinda surprised they took him!

Only 1 pick left... Willis still there!

Jacksonville Reaction to Okoye
I'm chatting with the Jaguars blogger right now.  His response to Amobi Okoye's going to Houston:

"Not looking forward to seeing him twice a year for the next 15 years."

The dream is dead, Dock - I'd grown somewhat attached to Okoye as well, thanks mostly to your writings here.  Who do you like now?

Buffalo Rumblings: we are awesome.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Damn, no Willis
he's about to be a 49er

I'm starting to get scared Marv might take Quinn, for some odd reason.  With the talent still available, I hope we could move down a few spots assuming Willis gets picked by SF.

~K

by Kurupt on Apr 28, 2007 2:06 PM EDT reply actions

Okoye is gone...
All right, SF on the clock.  They get Willis?

Here we go, time to put my theory to the test.

Let's see who they get.

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 2:07 PM EDT reply actions

They Got Willis.
LET'S GO BUFFALO!!!

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

Whoa.
Well, I stand absolutely corrected!

I'll say this - like Donte last year, they did not even remotely clue anyone in on their interest here.

Holy cow.

by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 2:30 PM EDT reply actions

Lynch
Not a total shock. A lot of older mock drafts (a couple weeks ago) had us taking Lynch. But I didn't think Levy would take a RB in the first round, and you guys had convinced me Willis or another LB should be the choice.

Oh well. As a Bills fan living in Berkeley I can't complain too much about this.

by andeux on Apr 28, 2007 2:38 PM EDT reply actions

Well...
This is a group that makes consensus decisions.  If they all agreed on Lynch (who had gaudy numbers I almost found unbelievable), then I can only be extremely excited.

Ha ha!  I hate Brady Quinn...  No offense to any diehard Irish fans here.
