END UPDATE
First thing's first (per KFFL):
Fri, 27 Apr 2007 16:29:15 -0700
John Clayton, of ESPN, reports the Buffalo Bills are out of the running in acquiring San Diego Chargers RB Michael Turner.
Interesting. I didn't have much hope (although there was some hope, for sure), but it looks like it will come down to the Packers or Titans for Turner's services. Brandon Jackson, anyone?
OK, now for the mock. Sure, at this point these mock drafts are absolutely pointless. Nobody knows what the Raiders are gonna do at #1, let alone what any team is going to do throughout the entire seven rounds. But I'm just cocky enough to think I can make a good guess; at the very least it'll give us something more to talk about. Here we go:
1-12: Paul Posluszny, LB, Penn State
2-43: Tanard Jackson, CB, Syracuse
3-74: Brandon Jackson, RB, Nebraska
3-92: Quincy Black, LB, New Mexico
4-111: Laurent Robinson, WR, Illinois State
6-184: Mike Otto, OT, Purdue
7-222: Marcus Hamilton, CB, Virginia
7-239: Deljuan Robinson, DT, Mississippi State
There you have it. These are all guys I personally like as prospects and all guys who fit what the team needs and what Levy and the front office value as people. Critique it as you like.
Feel free to offer your own mock drafts as well - I'd love to see what everyone thinks mere hours before the real thing!
P.S. If you're looking for some of the best analysis on today's draft prospects on the web, look no further than the stellar work put together by some of the wonderful writers at Buffalo Rumblings! By position:

Peter King agrees
Re: Willis/AP
Who do you like as far as mock picks? Anything you'd like to offer as far as how you'd approach the full draft if you were the GM?
by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2007 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions
All Righty Then...
A preface: I'm going to be cheap and use pairings sometimes. Basically, ESPECIALLY with our current OBD regime, I think that there are going to be a couple picks where even we go "Who?". Not sure about that, but we'll see...
If this thing with SD gets done, that will affect things. Will a swap of firsts get it done? (There's a big question mark in my mind over the validity of Clayton's above claim, for a few reasons.) However, I'm going to assume not...
Here we go.
Round 1: Might as well stick to my guns. Mayock, be right! Okoye/Carriker. Incidentally, if the Turner + First Swaps happens, I would potentially say Harrell. But that's another matter... LINE DOMINANCE IN THE TAMPA-2 IS OUR UTMOST CONCERN IN MY MIND.
Round 2: Leonard or Jarrett! If Jarrett drops, he'll be extremely tempting. I think Leonard would fit far better than a lot of people think.
Round 3a: Black. I think he fits the Bill. (cough) Or the best CB available.
Round 3b: LB Shaw or (if Leonard was not chosen) best RB available.
Round 4: Best WR (Ball? Robinson?) or CB (I just have no intelligent clue on the CBs this draft. I don't know why.)
Round 6: Safety - Josh Gattis from Wake?
Round 7a: Matt Gutierrez (what does Sean Kugler think of him?) or best QB available.
Round 7b: UB's Upshaw (TE)? Late G prospect?
All due respect to Brian and those brave soldiers going for specific picks!

My last mock
#12: Posluzny or a Willis miracle. AD will be long gone, IMO.
#43: Marcus McCauley CB
#74: Brandon Jackson RB. If we don't take a RB in the 1st, I don't see us taking one in the 2nd either. I'm not sure there's good value there...
#92: Quincy Black LB. I think he's a good fit for our scheme, though his instincts scare me.
#111: Laurent Robinson WR. I love this guy. Backup plan, Mike Walker.
#184: Gerald Alexander, S. Depth is a must.
#222: Kevin Boss, TE. Again, depth is probably required at the position, especially if Cieslak is an H-back.
#239: DD Terry, RB. Raw, but you can't teach speed.
Some UDFA's I'd look at, as well, though some of these guys will be picked:
Toby Korroti QB Central Missouri State
Jordan Kent WR Oregon
Braden Jones TE/FB Southern Illinois
Derek Schouman TE/FB Boise State
Rob Austin OT Troy
Trey Lewis DT Washburn
Justin Warren MLB Texas A&M
Dedrick Harrington MLB Missouri
William Gay CB Louisville
Justise Hairston RB Central Conn. St.
James Pinkney QB East Carolina
AD in round 1...at 12
The Browns look like they're going to take Quinn and if not him then Thomas.
I've never been sold on Minnesota liking him and recent reports indicate that they're not sold on him being a west coast offenseive back. I agree.
Falcons could take him but it seems like they want johnson (since it looks like Det. is going to take him and keep him unless they are "blown away" with an offer, it looks as if Atlanta's chances of getting johnson have gone down). They also really like Landry, so he too could be their pick. This is the team that worries me the most though. If AD is still on the board at 8 and Landry and Johnson are gone (which is a good possibility) Peterson makes perfect sense for them.
I really don't see Hoston sitting at 10 and there are already rumors/reports that a deal w/ denver is already done.
so in sum, I'm rooting for the falcons to win the Calvin Johnson sweestakes because I think that would allow AD to fall right into Buffalo's lap.
We shall see... 11 hours and counting!!
My prediction AD if he falls, if not Poz at 12 (BTW i'm wearing my Penn State #31 jersey tomorrow in honor of former Penn Stater and Buffalo Bill Shane Conlon and former Penn Stater and hopefully Buffalo Bill, Paul Posluszny!)
Re: Peterson
Unless, of course, they get Turner. Then it's feasible, in my mind.

oh and my dream scenario...
Posluszny

Squirrel!
I think I might be almost as crazy as a lot of people see you, Squirrel - I just have a feeling that Poz is #1 on Marv's board and they'll take him no matter who's there. I'd still prefer Willis, but I would be thrilled with Poz.
Kudos to you for sticking by your guy for so long - you might have the last laugh! It's gonna be a great day!

The Squirrel Is In The Building!
AP is DROPPING. (The injury question is just bugging to many as a top ten pick propisition.) I think y'all might be on to something...
If AP (or Okoye) drops, let's get them, and trade up for Poz! I'm on board...

The Trade Winds WERE Swirling...

Re: Trades
Personally, I don't want Quinn in Miami. I don't think he'll amount to much more than an average QB, but if he does, I DON'T want him to be a Fin...
by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Cleveland picks Thomas...
Quinn in Miami should mean a dropping Okoye (what will Washington do?). And he got destroyed every single game I ever watched him in (5 over the last two years). He's vastly overrated, to me... A good 2nd Rounder, but top ten? No way...

Re: Thomas
How sweet does the SB Nation Mock look so far? The TB/Det trade didn't happen, but as far as slots go, we're 3/3. Gaines Adams went #4 in our mock, and he's a real possibility to go to TB as well...
by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 12:48 PM EDT reply actions
mildly surprised...
So what does that do to where a few players end up?
Quinn: Vikings or Miami? maybe miami trades up to 6 to get him?
AD: I think he's safe until at least minnestoa at 7. Falcons at 8 and the texans at 10 are still possibilities. I still see the texans trading out of the 10 spot though.
Another question, Will Arizona take Levi Brown now?
Heck yes!
Who thinks Adams and Johnson still might swap teams?

Question... If miami passes on Quinn, WHO would take him?!
WHAT?!!!
by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:54 PM EDT reply actions
HAHAHA
Our chances to get Patrick Willis just increased dramatically. Anyone think Levy would go Poz/David Harris over Willis at #12?
by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions
John...
Well, I've been saying for a while there's no way he's worth a top ten pick... but I can't believe he actually dropped out.
by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 1:56 PM EDT reply actions
Quinn...
Hopefully SF trades out of 11, so we can grab Willis!!
two picks till the bills
Brian - yea i can see Levy doing that in a heartbeat
I still think SF takes him though. I wonder what houston is going to do?
I really like Okoye
Only 1 pick left... Willis still there!
Jacksonville Reaction to Okoye
"Not looking forward to seeing him twice a year for the next 15 years."
The dream is dead, Dock - I'd grown somewhat attached to Okoye as well, thanks mostly to your writings here. Who do you like now?
by Brian Galliford on Apr 28, 2007 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Damn, no Willis
I'm starting to get scared Marv might take Quinn, for some odd reason. With the talent still available, I hope we could move down a few spots assuming Willis gets picked by SF.
Okoye is gone...
Here we go, time to put my theory to the test.
Let's see who they get.
by Dock Ellis on Apr 28, 2007 2:07 PM EDT reply actions
Whoa.
I'll say this - like Donte last year, they did not even remotely clue anyone in on their interest here.
Holy cow.

Oh well. As a Bills fan living in Berkeley I can't complain too much about this.
Well...
Ha ha! I hate Brady Quinn... No offense to any diehard Irish fans here.
