Ripping on Schobel for missing OTAs kind of like...
...being mad at a senior for not showing up on senior skip day.
OTAs are optional and people need to keep in mind that Mr. Schobel is a REAL person with a family that he is not around as much as he would like during the regular season.
He is arguably the best player on the defense, missing some some drills for some quality family time will not hurt him that much.
I would rather have him being with his mini Schobels than suffer an injury at an optional organized team activity.

Welcome
Gotta agree with you here - although I believe his motives for missing these practices are a bit different than what you posit, these are voluntary practices. It's no big deal that he's missing them - if anyone doesn't need these practices, it's Aaron.

Schobel and OTA's
I think it's more of an issue this year because other than Darwin Walker, he's the only one missing these. In years past we all talked about that bum McGahee missing these while overlooking anyone else who stayed away.
I don't think we have any reason to believe Schobel is avoiding these because of his contract. If something pops up in the coming weeks or he misses the next round of OTA's, then maybe I'll start getting concerned.
L4S, I saw your post on BB.com and knew there'd be people who would start ripping on him for not being there. It's uncanny and annoying.

He's here!
He is by far the one player who's entitled to spend an extra week with fam. And, as others have pointed out, this notion that (even with cap inflation) he's not making as much as Kelsay is more than a little off (he makes less, theoretically, in one season that they share - 2010, I believe - due to the strucutring of Chris' deal; otherwise, he makes a lot more).
