Edwards' Enouraging Endorsement

After a full half, and a two-minute drill under his NFL belt, we're starting to get a sense of just what Trent Edwards is capable of. Though I wasn't fortunate enough to see or hear the last game, I followed online and was pleasantly surprised when the staff chose to leave him in. When I came across this article tonight, it gives further room for optimism. If a man who coached Joe Montana thinks so much of this kid, I'm even more excited to see him play with my own eyes. Much more so than Nall, who likely will get the whole second half next week.

Nall Salary Cap Hit

Does anybody know what Nall's salary cap hit would be if he were released? I remember that he had a relatively large contract for a back-up (and for a Bill) -- because he was considered a potential starter when we acquired him. Perhaps Marv is considering cutting him altogether and spend that money elsewhere (DL), since he is up against the wall in terms of cash-to-cap. Nall seems to be rather awful, and keeping a nobody for next to nothing as a 3rd stringer seems a smarter move if Edwards has locked up the 2nd spot anyway.

Looks like it'd be about $1.7M

It's not worth releasing him, nor would it be wise to keep only a rookie QB as a backup.

Agreed

I don't like the idea of Nall playing at all, but he gives us a better shot of winning this year than Edwards does. Next year, on the other hand, it might be worth bringing in a new #3 QB if Edwards can show he can handle being the #2.
