Shaun Rogers
Detroit Free Press is reporting the Lions will trade or release DT Shaun Rogers. On the field, the guy has all the potential in the world, but has issues with consistent effort. Off the field, there are rumors (some substantiated) from drugs to steroids to attitude problems.
My parents live in Detroit and I read the DFP pretty regularly. Rogers is an enigma, and obviously has some issues, but he is also 28 and a very talented player at a position where we are desperate. Rotoworld presumes he will draw a first day pick, but not a first rounder.
Just wondering what you all thought. He would fill a huge hole, but goes against the bills character requirements. I would be happy to drop a 5th rounder for him and take my chances. Worst case scenario, we drop him and move forward without a late-round pick. Considering his previous suspension and surrounding issues, I don't think I would go higher than a 4th tops.

true
Concerning his contract, three years left off of an original 6/45M K. I can't find the numbers on the remaining years, but a restructuring sounds about right. The Bills have put an emphasis (and a lot of money) on the lines, and paying Rogers would make sense if they are confident he won't be a problem.
Another option is never a bad thing, especially at a thin FA position.

2007 Scout Report
2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 80 (Outstanding Player)| Key
Comment: Rogers has a rare combination of massive size, power and quickness. He is a monster when healthy and playing at full speed. He beats linemen at the point of attack with great snap anticipation, an awesome first step and heavy power. He can get through a gap or engage and shed. He has great body control and a deceptive ability to locate and close on ball carriers in the backfield or down the line. He can break down and make form tackles in space like few interior linemen. He consistently holds the point of attack against frequent double teams, often splitting the blocks to disrupt action in the backfield. He is an outstanding penetrator when blocked one-on-one. His blend of power and explosive athleticism shows on special teams, where he has blocked nine kicks in five seasons. But Rogers is inconsistent and has some health and conditioning issues. He takes some plays off. His weight has fluctuated and occasionally gotten out of hand. He missed 10 games and finished 2006 on injured reserve.

Shaun Rogers
ultimately I think that Jauron's opinion of Rogers, and whether or not he feels he can motivate him, will determine if the Bills make a play for him.

I'm intrigued by this.
Might this be his first big decision, with his assumed "power" level having been increased?
