Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

All this negativity in this town sucks

In the words of the great Rick Pitino when he was coaching in Boston, "All this negativity in this town sucks!"  After endless FA, draft, training camp, pre-season and 5 weeks of regular season and subsequently 4 wins and 1 loss, I need a bye week as well.  I don't know if we should be jumping for joy, or death and despair after the Arizona loss.  But I'm not someone to sit here and try to qualify four wins or demean them.  I'm not going to put too much stock into one drumming or 3 comeback victories.  From playing 4 years of D-II college basketball I know that all that matters is Wins and Losses.  You can't penalize them for their schedule.  You can speculate that maybe they aren't that good.  But we won't know that until they play the rest of their games.  It happens every year.  Teams start hot and finish 8-8.  Teams start 2-4 and finish 10-6.  I know we are scared that they will fall off the map, but if that happens that's because they just aren't that good.

All I say is whether you are 0-5, 5-0, or 4-1 or anywhere in between all you can do is play your schedule.  You people need to stop trying to judge this team right now when we are only 5/16th of the way through the season.  Sure, maybe they will finish 7-9, or maybe 11-5, but either way we don't know until we just let it play out.  We know what we have, a hard working, well-coached and disciplined football team, with a above-average ST's, solid defense, and a QB who is trying to find his identity.  THAT IS WHAT IT IS.  Let's not try to read more into it than what is out there.

For my personal sanity I will this Sunday just watch my fantasy team and feel relieved I don't have to put myself through a Bills game in which I live and die with every play.  I love this team, I love Buffalo, I love this site, but let's be realists and realize all this speculation after one loss is hearsay.  So THEY AREN"T 5-0!  So what?  They have exceeded expectations already.  Now it is time to see how the next 11 go.  As Dick Jauron says, things play out the way they are supposed to, and that is what will happen with this team.  We all are desperately awaiting a playoff game, and I hope to God this is the year.  But in the NFL, anything can happen.  So I urge you to take a step back, get away from it all, and come back next week ready to cheer, and watch this team for 11 more entertaining regular season games.  (Of course still frequent this site everyday:)

I ouldn’t agree more. Bills fans have a defeatist attitude. always waiting for something bad to happen when instead they should be celebrating the best start in over a decade. 1 loss will not doom a season nor will it quell any excitement I have for the prospects of this season and beyond. whether this team losses 10 games or wins 10 games I will attend the home games and cheer just as loud. So enjoy the week off and get ready for a big game against SD

I agree.

I sometimes tune into the in game thread and as soon as the Bills are down you would think the world is going to end. I like to watch the games with a more optimistic attitude. I mean seriously, by now, we are usually 1-4, or 2-3. I will take 4-1 all day. I don’t think we are going to finish 3-8 or 4-7. I think this team is better than that. I am sure they will use their bye week to make some adjustments and the Bills will be right back on the win train come week seven. Have a little hope. Please.

also

lets not forget that this team was on a two game road stretch and played without our leader who if we win enough games has every right to be considered as the most valuable player to this team. Losses happen, especially in those circumstances and seriously, we haven’t started this well in over a decade. We are ahead of the Patriots and we have a week off to do more than just cheer for our fantasy teams, we can cheer on the Chargers to beat the Brady-less Bunch. That way, they can keep the Patriots off our back and when we beat them we can send a message. We are doing very very well and remember that our bye is coming at a perfect time. Schobel was injured during the Rams game and it showed against Zona, Stroud is nursing a shoulder, Ko Simpson isn’t 100%, Terrence McGee needs to recoup, something is bothering Ashton Youboty and Trent has a concussion. Those are a bunch of nagging injuries that plagued us last Sunday. Plus, we get two weeks for Jason Peters to study up and get in better shape. We will be better after the bye week.

A win is a win is a win

And the Bills have 4 of those. Best start to a season since 1992. Who’s complaining about 4 – 1? Can Buffalo improve? Of course they can. But don’t forget this was a team that was 1 – 4 at this point in the season just one year ago. Celebrate the good times, that’s where we are right now. Let the nay-sayers rant, but I’ve been waiting for this team to fire out of the gate like this for a good long time. Let’s see how they bounce back after the bye week.

Get the Bills back to the big game!

True....But....

Yeah, I live in Buffalo…There REAL negative. Can’t really blame them after four straight Super Bowl Losses, and an uncertain future on whether the team is going to be here in the future. Let’s not forget the Sabres are frequent disappointments. When it comes to sports in this town…how could you not be negative (at least a little).

i agree WE ALL could be more optimistic.

However the Bills haven’t exceeded expectations. Not by a long shot. Maybe there Offense has. But as a Team, I expect Playoffs. Going to the AFC Championship would be exceeding my expectations.

Peace!

That's setting the bar pretty high for this team

Since they haven’t proven to be a perennial playoff contender yet. But I sympathize with you. We’ve been waiting a long time for this team to get back to the playoffs, and it’s hard to be patient.

Why concerned.....

I agree that we should all be happy about the team being 4-1. I also agree that we’ll need to see how this team played out the rest of the way. I’m concerned not because of what the Bills had done or not in previous years. The game against Arizona raised 2 major concerns:

1)The Bills lost Edwards to an uncertain number of games due to concussion. Edwards is their leader and arguably one of the best player in the league. The Bills are not that deep in personnel as a team, so to lose the most integral player will realistically affect the performance of the Bills.

2)The Bills didn’t just lose the game; they got cakewalked over by the Cardinals. Make no mistake, the Cards is not a bad team (especially at home) by any stretch of the imagination. But both our offense and defense were totally manhandled. If we were to lose yet gained 30+points under Losman, then there’s something positive on the offense (and Losman) to look forward to for the next game; or if we could’ve held Arizona to 27points or less in the lost, then our defense would have shown the ability to stop/limit one of the top rated offense in the league. I know a lost is a lost no matter how you look at it from the bottom line, but this lost exposed some glaring weaknesses of the Bills, and there is no proof the Bills have the ability to turn to them around with the reduced skill set by not having Edwards and McGee.

It is now upto the coaches and players to make some adjustments, and hopefully all the players get healthy before the next game.
