Reasons for Hope?

All is not lost-or so said that chick in Lord of the Rings.  I'm gonna get all Woody Page on you and look at the schedule for a minute (from my blog btw)....

Ugh!  Okay, I tried to move on from the frustration that is the Bills season and actually get some work done, or get caught up on something-but I can't!  I hope by writing out here my little glimmer of hope I have for the season it'll exorcise the demons long enough for me to get something done.

Okay.  Right now the Standings (followed by the schedule for the next three games) look like this:

New England 6-3 (Jets, Dolphins and Steelers)

New York      6-3 (Patriots, Titans and Broncos)

Miami            5-4 (Oakland, Patriots and Rams)

Buffalo          5-4 (Cleveland, @KC, SF)

Looking at the schedule-Buffalo is playing three games they could win.  The rest of the AFC East can't win all of its games because there are two divisional games to be played.  So IF Buffalo wins these next three games AND Assuming the AFC East teams win all of the non divisional games it looks like one of the following:

New England/New York 9-3

New York/New England 8-4

Buffalo                           8-4

Miami                            7-5

That's if New England either wins all its games, or the Jets beat them tonight but they beat the Dolphins. If the Patriots beat the Jets but lose to the Dolphins:

NE 8-4

NY 8-4

Buf 8-4

Mia 8-4

If the Dolphins and Jets beat the Patriots?

NY 9-3

Buf 8-4

Mia 8-4

NE 7-5

And this of course supposes things like The Jets beating the Titans and the Patriots also beating the Steelers.  Miami and Buffalo, by far, have the easiest three weeks ahead-with Buffalo slightly ahead.

The point?  Winning these non-divisional games keeps Buffalo right in the mix, and gets them as high as tied for first going into the last four games of the season-3 of which are against Divisional opponents.  Don't get me wrong-Buffalo's season is on thin ice right now, but it is far from over.  Games again easier teams like these might be just what Buffalo needs to get some momentum back while players like Schobel, Whitner et. al get healthy in time for some division games.

The Bills are looking at a second chance if they can pull it together over the next three weeks.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

It’s there for them if they want it. Their attitude has to improve or it won’t happen. They seem to hope for results instead demand/create results.

As for getting healthy, I wouldn’t bet on it. Yeah some guys will return, but others will go out. They just have to deal with it and win with what they got.

great post Frank

I’m not sure I’v e seen you post before, sorry if I missed it, but if you haven’t, its good to see you put one up. I wrote this as a response to someone elses post and thought it was relevant here. I couldn’t agree with you more that the schedule looks like we are poised for a comeback: so long as we are as good as we thought earlier in the year:

We went on a 3 game losing streak and the Dolphins and Jets both went on 3 game win streaks. That can’t keep up for any of these three teams. If we play well and get smart with coaching we should be 8-4 after the next three.

By contrast, the Jets have their next two AT New England and AT Tennessee, followed by the Broncos at home. That sounds like 1-2 to me, and if Favre trys to keep up with Cutler (a younger version of himself) in a shootout, I think he will lose, putting them at 0-3.

The Dolphins schedule is much kinder than the Jets with Oakland coming to Miami, followed by New England before they go play at St. Louis. Oakland is without Russell most likely so that doesn’t bode well, but you know what? I think they still might be due for a win. New England will play Miami tough and St. Louis has been an upset maker or at least close to an upset maker against tough AFC and NFC East teams already. I say in the end Miami comes out 2-1, but 1-2 isn’t that unlikely. Either way, That makes our meeting with the Dolphins huge and puts our destiny somewhat in our own hands. We should beat them at "home".

Finally, the Pats next three isn’t a walk in the park by any means. As mentioned above they take on Miami and Jets before getting the Steelers. We may in fact want to be rooting for the Pats for the next to weeks and then pull for the Steelers to win a game they should, their defensive pass rush should destroy Cassel. So let’s put the Pats at 2-1.

That makes it Bills 8-4, Pats 8-4, Dolphins 7-5, and Jets at 7-5. All year we have beaten the teams we are supposed to and the next three are against teams we are supposed to beat. Our problem is beating teams that are about even or better than us. These could be the standings if we beat our next three.

Then let’s pray we’ve learned how to play against good competition.

Thanks!

Yeah I haven’t posted here yet-this was my first post. I have my own blog which is basically my general interest blog where I do most my Bills coverage.

And yeah-the Bills are set up, as they have been all year-they just need to execute. I think a team that can be only 8 or 9 down after four turnovers in a game (Jets and Pats) and be a few bonehead mistakes away from being competitive in New England is a team that can make this happen.

We’ll see though.

Control

The Bills control their own destiny. If they can win out they win the division. I don’t think they can do that and will need some help but first things first, we need to win Monday Night. Then we can do more playoff projections!!!! :-)

Playoffs????????

PLAYOFFS???? PLAYOFFS?? YOU WANT TO TALK PLAYOFFS???

so what if we beat sisters of the poor that is cleveland, kc or SF. doesn’t mean we are a good team.

lol.....

i bet you wouldn’t mind me leaving for 4 years. hahahaha

pessimistic at best these days. too many BB scars. i’ve been watching this team since ‘88. man, i just lost any sort of caring these last few weeks. same old same old. every year. i’m just going to stop putting myself through this until the team is committed to winning. i’ll probably live longer as a result :)

I would too mind. I don’t like people leaving and stuff like that.

i just hope

before the team moves they can at least get back to an AFC title game…..i yearn for a super bowl in my lifetime but I just don’t see that happening, and I believe the team will move at some point in the next 5,10, 15 years
