Bills/Chiefs: Opponent History

Buffalo Bills (5-5) at Kansas City Chiefs (1-9)
Sunday, November 23, 2008, 1PM EST - Arrowhead Stadium
This game is the 40th overall meeting between the Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs/ Dallas Texans Franchise. The Bills hold the edge all time 21-18. This is also the 5th time in the last 6 meetings (counting this one) that the game has been in K.C.
September 14, 1997: Chiefs 22, Bills 16
Todd Collins threw for 297 yards and a TD to Andre Reed, but was just 22 of 43 passing and tossed two picks. Tamarick Vanover returned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD and Elvis Grbac hit Tony Richardson with a 1 yard TD pass late in the fourth to give the Chiefs the win.
November 19, 2000: Bills 21, Chiefs 17
QB Elvis Grbac (341 yards, 2 TDs), WR Derrick Alexander (7-146) and TE Tony Gonzalez (9-76, 2 TDs) all had big days for the Chiefs. Rob Johnson, however, had a bigger day, connecting with Eric Moulds and Jay Riemersma for scores and scrambling for another to give the Bills the win.
November 17, 2002: Chiefs 17, Bills 16
This game was even right down the line. Total yards: Bills 344, Chiefs 320. Rushing Yards: Bills 133, Chiefs 128. Passing Yards: Bills 211, Chiefs 192. The difference? The Bills had 13 penalties for 139 yards to K.C.'s 5 for 39. Despite the penalties the Bills had a 16-10 lead heading into the final quarter, but a 9-yard TD scramble from Trent Green gave the Chiefs the win. If I'm not mistaken, Drew Bledsoe just missed hitting Peerless Price for a long score down the left sideline that would have given the Bills the win.
October 26, 2003: Chiefs 38, Bills 5
The Bills started out well, blocking a punt through the end zone for a safety; it was all down hill from there. Trent Green hit Dante Hall for a 67 yard TD score, and Priest Holmes took over from there with 3 TD runs. Drew Bledsoe was picked off 3 times and Alex Van Pelt added 2 more of his own. Ugly.
November 13, 2005: Bills 14, Chiefs 3
J.P. Losman, in relief of injured then-starter Kelly Holcomb, hit Lee Evans for 2 TD passes (33 yards & 29 yards). The Bills picked off Trent Green 3 times and sacked him 6 times. Both Lawrence Tynes and Rian Lindell missed 2 field goals each.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh
IT WAS A CLEAN HIT! Maybe you should take some of the pain and anguish directed at Bernard Pollard and direct it to Sammy Morris who tackled him and forced him to try getting to Brady that way!!!!

like the Pats get to talk...........
I remember one Vince Wilfork ushering in the Trent Edwards Era by himself……..
so no sympathy at at all…..plus the Devil was due to collect from Brady eventually.
Disappointment proves that expectations were mistaken.......ladies and gentlemen your 2008 Buffalo Bills.....

That last one hurts
That was a terrible game. I remember this was before Lee Evans was Lee Evans and he killed the Chiefs.
1997…Todd Collins going for nearly 300 on the Bills.
Nice post.

Speaking of Todd Collins
My biggest fear for the MNF game was that we would out do ourselves with respect to the infamous 6-3 MNF game against the Colts when we introduced our brand new savior from Michigan, Mr. Collins, to the world. After that, the Bills were banned from MNF.
Now, with two thrilling finishes, I’m predicting 3 MNF games next year. Not that the NFL thinks we’ll win them, but we have exciting playmakers all over our team.
BTW, speaking of MNF disasters, i still have nightmares about Christian Okoye barreling through us like we were Kimbo Slice.

wow...sensitive little bugger
I never said it was dirty or even implied it in those 10 words…just put it out there as an acknowledgment of what happened to us. There’s plenty of smack talk around, but please don’t take it where it isn’t intended. Yikes.
Keep the faith!

You can't talk about Edwards around here.
It angries up the blood. I think k’s just mad cus your quarterback is playing better than ours. Don’t take it to heart.

correction
your backup is playing better than our starter

I'll make a prediction right now
Brady comes back next year and throws his first interception, or misses Moss in the endzone, there will be some fans out there who will cry for Cassel and wonder why we didn’t keep him instead of Brady.
Keep the faith!

I was joking in response, as evident by the dozen of so exclamation points. There are a ton of Pats fans out there (Bill Simmons) that won’t shut up about Bernard Pollard and can’t let it go. That’s truly annoying.

during pre-season
The media asked Brady about his foot and how it was feeling. Brady, since he’s not the most mobile QB in the world, joked that he still can’t run fast or jump. The press then ran with the story about how he was still being slowed by his foot injury and how it was more serious that previously thougt…blah blah blah. We got the joke here in NE, but sometimes they don’t translate well. (Which obviously my first comments didn’t either, lol)

what's the game plan
for this one? If Lee Evans does not break out in this game he might strangle Trent Edwards.
Run the ball, get Lee touches right away and let’s go out and wing it. I hope Turk is extremely hard on Edwards this week. Working on TIMING, TIMING, TIMING. It’s all about our OFFENSE. Our Defense will keep us in the game…..I’d love to play with a lead in the 2nd half and see our Defense win this game for us! I DESPERATELY need to see a WIN!

I think the plan is
to check it off on every play. Check down, check down, check down, check down, check down, check down, run up the gut, check down, run up the gut, field goal.
Craig.

check down
I think this week you take a shot every time Edwards Checks down…..and you take 10 shots every time he throws a pass over 20 yards and that doesn’t count a 20 yard YAC play…..
AHHHHHHH….I’m going to go insane even more if I keep following this team this die-hard. 19 years has about done it. My dad grew up a Vikings fans, and he got fed up with them and fell in love with the Bills….man I wish he hadn’t done that sometimes!

2002 Game
I remember Peerless Price took a bad block in the back penalty. Thanks for not mentioning those Monday Night games back in the ’90’s when Barry Word and Christian Okoye ran all over Buffalo.

Early 90s
I remember a MNF game in the early 90s when the Bills had a fumble return for a TD, when a Bills LB or safety nailed a Chiefs WR on a perfectly timed hit. I think it was called a TD on the field, but “upon further review,” the officials overturned it, even though the replay showed that the on field call was perfect (definitely was a fumble – the WR had possession – and a TD). The inane ruling was that the defensive player had stopped the forward progress of the WR, and so the play was dead, even though the hit was a timed hit (not a defense grabbing the WR and holding on or dragging him back).

Two statements I've never, ever seen or heard before
Rob Johnson, however, had a bigger day
[Rob Johnson] scrambling for another [TD]
Wow!
