Can you say Pathetic?
Ask any Bills fan and all of them will say that this afternoon's game against the NY Jets was a crucial game in our hopeful season. After the outcome, I'm sure many Bills fans are irrate!
I would like to point out, in my opinion, the 2 biggest problems our beloved team had today...the O-Line and Perry Fewell's defensive calls.
Anyone else thing we've done better w/o an offensive line playing at all today? We couldn't run the ball and Trent was running for his life. Yes, Trent did hold onto the ball for too long a few times but overall he had no time what so ever to make something on offense happen. Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery are the 2 best lineman we have thus far. Peters is underacheiving like no other and our back-up RG and C are proving to me why they're back-up's. For the love...the Jets rushed 3 and Edwards had less then 2 seconds to get the ball out of his hands! The O-Line consistently got blown off the ball, allowed holes to be clogged for our running game, and gave Edwards no time what so ever to make plays for this promising team.
And now for Fewell's defensive calls. Brett Favre is 39yrs old...why did we not pressure him the entire game!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Blitzes were working great in the 1st quarter and the Jets could not get anything going. Why did Fewell change his play calls up the rest of game. On crucial downs we were only sending our 4 D-Lineman and Favre had all the time in the world to pick us apart. Our run defense was stellar in the 1st 3 quarters but then disappeared in the 4th when it mattered the most. We have amazing talent on our defense and they're just playing up to their potential and I'm going to point the finger at Perry Fewell and his conservative and often times pathetic play calling. Greet made an outstanding play to help keep us in the game but again it was our run defense who allowed our team to be gashed in the final minutes of the contest.
I sure hope they pull their heads out of their butts for next weekends game against the Patriots because we cannot afford to go 0-3 in the division!

wow
The Bad:
Well trent edwards didn’t have alot of time throughout the day but he also made a few poor decisions and held unto the ball for a lil too long. Their run game may be one of the most pathetic ones in the NFL right now. They can’t win down the stretch if that doesn’t improve drastically. Kris Jenkins absolutely destroyed Buffalo all day long in the middle. The need for a good center is oh so clear now. Reed’s absence showed as the bills WRs only had 100 of the teams 289 recieveing yards, many of which were meaningless. The wide recievers were stifled and there were few meaningful passes downfield. The run defense was good until that last drive that ate 8 minutes of clock. It was so stressful to watch, it looked like they just gave up. If they could have forced a 3 and out or even a less time eating field goal there is a chance that they could have won. Poor decision to go for it on 4th down so early in the game in my opinion. Being risky will pay off but it will come back to bite you just as much if not more. It is like that for any 4th down attempt I guess, if it works praise the coach, fails then criticize him. There were also many key penalties on the bills in my opinion such as the holding by Bryan scott. Our team is a ball control, sustained offense kind of team and we cannot afford a 3-1 turnover margin in a game. Especially for TD’s or in our own end zone. Oh and the pass rush was horrible, what a suprise.
The Good:
Derek Fine looked very good considering his play time, his hands, and ability to get open. He made a very nice catch on a high pass from trent and obviously had the TD. I thought the Bills secondary played very good throughout the day but managed to give up some key plays. I don’t think thr problem is trent, I think it is the line and I really believe reed’s injury was big today. You can say negative things about him all you want but he keeps the chains moving. Paul Posluzny looked very good again and was the most solid tackler on the team I would say. He is very fast to the ball in pass or in run, if u catch it over the middle, he will be on you quick. Defense played well overvall I think considering the jets had a INT for a TD and a recovered fumble for a field goal. That’s only 16 points if you take those away.

Bad: Donte Whitner’s tackling…simply atrocious. The guy flies up to the line and completely whiffs on tackles….such poor technique

Disagree.
I thought he played well. My defensive goats are Simpson (who you may have mistaken with Whitner) and Kelsay (consistently missing on run stop opportunities and otherwise irrelevant)

What about Mitchell
I was too angry / frustrated / depressed to check toroughly, but I remember seeing him late in many plays. He just seemed… slow.

No mistake
Every time Whitner flies up to the line to try and meet the ball carrier, he just lunged at him and missed the tackle. It was not Simpson doing that….

Well, to be fair, Simpson did it, too. He whiffed pretty hardcore on that opening screen pass to Leon Washington…

Yeah, but Whitner does that A LOT. Simpson is back most of the time.
Both are pretty horrible tacklers and take bad angles.

We have amazing talen and I think it’s coming down to coaching. Jauron is a great leader and keeps our guys mentally in the game. I think it’s the coordinators who are dropping the ball.
I think we’re seeing it again that we’re playing not to lose instead of playing to win and I HATE that mentality.

We have amazing talent
I’d disagree with that. I think we have adequate talent, but we don’t have enough playmakers, especially defensively.
I wouldn’t be opposed to the Bills using about 6 draft picks on offensive linemen and defensive ends next year.

Also, besides Center, where would we need another starting OL? Yeah, an upgrade might be necessary elsewhere, but with big contracts given to Dockery and Walker, a new deal for Butler and Peters pending deal (in all likelihood), where would we be able to use another starter without having a high priced, unhappy backup??? Depth is crucial though…

I agree
Our next draft should be all about the trenches, a starting C, backup guards and tackles, at least two DE’s maybe 3, the lines on offense and deffense determine whether or not we win games, the playmakers only determine by how much we win by

Hmmm, I think this might be how we draft (early I know, but humor me)
Rd 1- DE, unless Mack is there, then C
Rd 2- C or DE if we go C in Rd 1.
Rd 3- OLB
Rd 4- G
Rd 5- TE (we go pure pass catcher)
Rd 6- CB (if Greer goes)
RD 7- DT

Resigned Jauron a little early ?
This was our best chance to make a playoff run . If he cant get us to the playoffs with Brady out and our so so easy schedule . How will he ever do it ?
I'm your pusher man .

No, we didn’t re-sign Jauron a little early. The team is still young, and it should get better. If it doesn’t, let’s revisit this at that point.

Loaded question.
How much time is enough? I know it depends on the situation. But let’s ball park it. How many games like the last two before Jauron is on the hot seat? Could it be this year? Or does he get at least one more year? If so, then I would have to say at least one or both coordinators will have to go. Someone is going to have to take the fall if this team goes 7-9 after a 5-1 start.

If the team goes 7-9 after starting 5-1, Jauron has to go, doesn’t he? Especially against the schedule we have this year…That would be a pathetic final 10 games of the season that’s for sure….

Jauron isn’t going to be on the hot seat this season unless they flop catastrophically. After NE, we play the Browns, Chiefs and 49ers in successive weeks. I don’t see that happening.

I disagree with a lot of this
Langston Walker and Derrick Dockery are the 2 best lineman we have thus far. Peters is underacheiving like no other
If you are talking about the season up to this point (which I think you are) than I agree. But I thought Peters was better than Walker was on Sunday. I’ll wait for Ron’s opinion, but I thought Peters wasn’t too bad and Walker maybe had his worst game as a Bill.
why did we not pressure him the entire game!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The Bills blitzed a decent amount and they blitzed all day. Is it really the coaches fault if the D-Line and blitzers can’t get to the QB? If 4 down lineman can’t get the slightest amount of pressure, than why do we assume that rushing 1 or 2 more players will consistently get pressure. Blitzes don’t always create pressure, sometimes they just burn you. That is why the Bills can’t blitz every play. The Bills seemed like they blitzed on over 30% of pass plays which is a pretty decent amount. The blitzes may have looked effecient in the first quarter, but one of them was responsible (along with Ko Simpson maybe) for the Wasington 40 yard screen play.
Our run defense was stellar in the 1st 3 quarters but then disappeared in the 4th when it mattered the most.
And thats playcalling? I thought the Jets O-Line plowed through our D-Line and the linebackers and safeties didn’t do much to help them out. That last drive by the Jets seemed like the players fault to me, not the coaches.
We have amazing talent on our defense
hahahahaha
The Bills have average to above average personnel and guess what? Statistically, we have been an average to above average defense.
if anything I like the way Fewell has been limiting the amount of points our opponents score despite some injuries and a non-existent pass rush from our front 4. Our DEs have 3 sacks this year. There are 45 PLAYERS in the league with more sacks than all of our DEs combined. That just isn’t coaching, it is a lack of talent.
I know the defense didn’t play well, but at the end of the day they gave up 19 points and scored a touchdown of their own. I don’t see how anyone can blame the loss on the defense.
