Injuries: BUF @ NE
Aaron Schobel, Josh Reed, Donte Whitner, Brad Butler and Ashton Youboty are all out this week.
Jason Whittle and Kawika Mitchell are questionable.
What is with all the injuries here the past few years? Poor training staff? Light preseason workouts and practices? Dumb luck? Last year, we only lost a few starters to injuries but this season it's starter after starter going down. That stinks.
Now we see that our lack of depth is really hurting us. If Mitchell doesn't play, who does? Blake Costanzo, Marcus Buggs, or Jon Corto? Oh God.
Looks like a Melvin Fowler/Duke Preston duo will be trying to contain Vince "Cheapshot" Wilfork this week. That just isn't going to happen.
It's obvious this team needs to continue improving depth to overcome these injuries.

The only injuries that concern me are Schobel and the O-Linemen. These are areas where our depth is thin; I’m actually strangely confident in McKelvin and Corner this weekend, and Bryan Scott has been playing superbly. I wish we had Youboty back, but at least we’ve still got our starters.

Chambers
CB reports Chambers was lining up at RG today. That would be alright with me if he can help out Preston/Fowler against WIlfork. Despite the injuries we just have to find a way to get it done. I still think this game rests on Trent’s shoulders. Sure, players around him have to pick it up, but he has to play well above average given the circumstances with all the injuries, on the road, huge division game, and we are playing the damn Pats. Come on Trent, play with confidence, supreme decision making, and be a leader for us on Sunday. Win this game, and the legend of Edwards grow much larger…

I think this was probably just for emergency purposes. Fowler is likely to start at C, with Preston likely to start at RG; Chambers probably got reps there in the event that one of those two “starters” gets dinged.

I don't care who starts, I want Kugler to call the High-Low on Vince all day
Lets see how he likes it when his knees get messed up with Fowler and Preston playing a game of “Can you knee bend this way?” with him. I don’t care how we do it, but we need him off the field, and that means we gotta do something sketchy. VW is the man who makes their D go, and anyone who claims its Seymour doesn’t understand how that line is setup. Seymour may get the press, but Wilfork does the actual work.

Wow. I wouldn’t condone doing anything “sketchy” to gain a competitive advantage. That’s dirty. Do we really need to stoop to their level?

ITS NOT STOOPING...
It’s called protecting your players. When a guy gets beaned with a fastball what do you tell your pitcher to do? You tell him to go protect the rest of the lineup. If Vince Wilfork is a dirty player (and we all know he is), then you put his head on a swivel and cut block him, cheap shot him, do whatever it takes to protect OUR players if the league or the refs aren’t going to do it. It makes me wonder how many football fans actually know what it’s like to play a game as grueling as football. Because when there’s a dirty player on the field like Vince Wilfork, everybody knows who he is and to give him a good lick every chance you get, whether he sees it coming or not… because when A-holes like Wilfork throw 350 lbs around at people’s knees he needs to be dealt with.

Glad someone agrees with me
Wilfork is a cheapshot artist, and punks like him need to be taken down a peg. You protect your players, and the Bills now know he tried to destroy JPs knee. Even though JP isn’t starting anymore, the Bills online will be watching for BS from him. I expect we’ll see a lot of borderline and not so borderline shots taken on VW. A couple of earhole shots and maybe a couple of chop blocks will get him to the sidelines.
So far the NFL has done a piss poor job protecting players. How many horsecollars have not been called? What about Allens attempts to remove Schaubs knees from the rest of his anatomy? Wilfork is probably the dirtiest player on the Pats now that the bum known as Rodney Harrison is out for the season.

I agree with both of you.
This is also a prime chance for the Bills to say to the Pats “Screw you, we’re sick of being your whipping boy”. It’d be nice to show them we aren’t taking their crap anymore. Of course, that will never happen with you know who in charge.

Look, I’m all for repeatedly blind-siding the guy, if it’s done cleanly. What was proposed was purposely injuring the guy to “make our job easier”; that’s what’s wrong here. But as far as dirtying up Wilfork, be my guest.

There's a fine line between dirty and clean...
If you want to say, “Screw you, we’re sick of being your whipping boy,” then you man up and punch the bully in the nose. You can beat the hell out of someone without being cheap about it. Why is that not an option? Why would they have to deliver a cheap shot to send a message? If you’re not a man enough to deliver a shot without it being cheap, then you’re a p***y. I don’t want my team to be like that…

foreignarrow's point
is that dealing with a 350 lb DTs who intentionally play to hurt other players is a part of the game and so is playing dirty to put that jerk in his place. It is a part of the game and if you don’t accept it because you don’t want to b a p***y then you are going to get your players hurt and you are not doing your job as a coach or player. Need I remind you that a QB lost his starting position and could have missed a year of football because he went for his knee. Offensive lineman and defensive lineman scratch kick and bite each other when they can, it is a part of the game. if Wilfork wants to take that to the next level, and the refs wont penalize him for it, it is part of the game to fight him on that next level. Football isn’t about being noble, its about kick the other teams ass. I don’t want my team to be the players who take stuff to a dirty level, but I sure as hell want them to be a team that can hold their own when the opponent goes there.

Fowler
I gained a real and true appreciation for how much worse things could be than Fowler. Preston was wretched in his place. I now know that for all sh*t I have given him he is at least a passable center.

Just because Preston was so bad doesn’t miraculously make Fowler a passable center. Don’t you recall how pathetic Fowler is? Has the stench from Preston clouded your opinion on Fowler that much?!?!?!?!?

haha
perhaps it has. Preston was sooooooo freaking bad though. I couldn’t believe it. I was actually MISSING Fowler!!
I’m sure I’ll get a refresher course on how frustrating it is to watch Fowler play this Sunday. Come Monday I’ll be back to complaining about him too.

I would call Preston/Fowler the Tweedle brothers
Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, all that is different is their names, not their wretched inability to play football.

Pats Injuries?
Who do the Pats have out. CB from Buffalobills.com blogged about their possible inactives, but are there any updates. As many starters as we have out, whats the deal with their swiss cheese secondary?

Maroney, too, of course. Still not as many RBs out as the Broncos, though.

Random Thoughts
Mitchell would be a big loss, b/c the Pats have been running alot. However, I really hope that the Bills put Spencer Johnson at DE and have Denney rotate with those guys. Denney should not play so many snaps. Let McCargo rotate with the DT’s and let Denney rotate with Kelsay Johnson. I do not really have any interest in seing Copeland Bryant on the field (unless its special teams). Plus my rationale is Green Ellis is a straight ahead runner and we could use the size up front. Especially is we put Corto in for Mitchell.
I suppose it is good news Chambers is at Guard. I have decided it would be difficult to be much worse than what we have seen the last 2 weeks.
Interesting decision for Fewell is whether he moves Greer on Welker when we are in the nickle and lines McKelvin outside or puts Corner in the slot on Welker. I am 50/50 on which one will end up happening.
Roscoe needs to have a big day. Exploiting the Pats nickle corner is the way to go on Sunday. Josh Reed will be missed (Wow…about 6 months ago I never could imagine writing that). Gonzalez caught 2 TDs last week out of the slot.
Lynch needs to not get nausious.
Edwards needs to be more aware both inside our 20 and inside their 20. FGs are more points than turnovers.
Jauron needs to use timeouts and challenges wisely, especially in the second half.
My Critical Matchup of the day: Poz v. K. Faulk. Does anyone else feel if we shut down faulk we stand a real solid chance to win…..eh…maybe that one is just me.
