BUF Injury Report :: NE Injury Report
Bills inactives - RB Xavier Omon, WR Josh Reed, OT Demetrius Bell, OG Brad Butler, DE Aaron Schobel, LB Teddy Lehman, SS Donte Whitner

The Buffalo Bills are set to take on the New England Patriots in a battle atop the AFC East in just under an hours' time.  I don't have much to say about this one, because we all know what's at stake.  After two straight divisional losses, the Biils face what is essentially a must-win in a stadium from which they have not emerged victorious since 2000.  Without a win, Buffalo falls to 5-4 - a record they also held in 2007, when they finished 7-9.

This is your open game thread for today's game.  I'll be here, as always, and hope to see as many of you as possible here as well.  If you're a lurker and would like to join in for today's thread, create an account and hop right on in.  This is a big one.  Get your game faces on, and GO BILLS.

Bills 27-13. I went to church today just for this game. Go Bills!

Is this the first time or just the most recent in a long time?

Those types of trips can backfire I’ve found :-P

The big question for me is this, is Wilfork playing or not? Sadly, it looks like he is, get ready to watch Fowler and Preston get beat like rented mules today folks. Hope Turk is really ready to run outside, we are going to need to.

CBS

Does anyone know why CBS is currently showing the Tenn. vs. Chi game and not Buffalo?

by BuffaloBrewed on Nov 9, 2008 1:01 PM EST reply actions

Depends on where you live, if your near Buffalo, it shoul be Pat vs.Bills

Everywhere else its that game becauseTenn is 8-0 and thus a more important game.

Jauron

I’m actually a Jauron supporter and have been since day one…but there was no question that was not a catch and he had plenty of time to make sure the ref seen it…there are no excuses for the ref to have not seen that flag.

by David Oleksy on Nov 9, 2008 1:16 PM EST up reply actions

We don’t even know what happened… maybe the folks talking to Jauron saw it wasn’t a catch too late. That’s all I’m saying, so before we jump down his throat, let’s relax.

The issue is that when your on the 4 yard line, it compacts the D and makes it easier for them to flow to the ball. I guess I should blame both for this one

Why? Edwards was the one who chose the run out of the 3 plays you mentioned. Why does Schonert get blame there?

I do want to point out one thing, though. This team doesn’t suck. They’re not terrible, garbage, etc. If I may steal a line from the great Dennis Green, “they are who we thought they were.” An 8 or 9 win team. The fast start against a few pathetic teams made them appear to be much more than they actually are.

The Lynch as a bust part is really of the mark. No one could run behind this line, no one. As for the Trent comment, I find it hard not to agree that he seems to have regressed. maybe it’s injuries or maybe it is the competition. That said, he just doesn’t make enough plays and doesn’t get the ball to the endzone – though some of that is the total lack of running game.

We have TWO GLARING needs, at least, so who knows what we might have to do. I do wish we had some extra draft picks this year!

Interestingly enough

Both Mack AND Luigs grade out way above avg. An unusual year for C. Either one will be a force for years for their team.

These guys are killing me.

To think that I got in an argument with my wife to watch this piece of crap game. My playoff hopes have been officially shattered. Can’t win without a DE who can pressure the QB. Can’t win with poor center play. Can’t run when you can’t run the ball. We’ll need a monster draft and a FA or two next year.

Annoying and outrageous? Are we allowed to call it like it is or are we going to be kool-aid drinkers for the rest of the season?

The real problem

I think the real problem is that from the beginning he was told to chill but nobody ever debated his point that Jauron needs to go. It’s kind of like when my 4 year-old says something and my answer is quiet down instead of an answer to her question, she asks again and again and again.

So why shouldn’t Jauron go?

by David Oleksy on Nov 9, 2008 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

For the same reasons that he got an extension? For the same reasons that we (I) repeat here on a daily basis?

Brian...I agree with you

I’m a Jauron backer…I’m just saying that he called out Jauron and was immediately told to chill with no reason why Jauron should stay.

Maybe he is a newcomer to the site and never read anything else you have posted.

Maybe it’s because my site is much worse than yours and nobody visits it but I just thought it was comments from an angry Bills fan and he didn’t get anyone to counter his point. I would love to get this type of interaction on my site.

Why always in the Shotgun?

Marshwan had some good runs, why not keep with it?

Why always in the Shotgun?

Maybe he feels that’s the best way for our pathetic OL to keep Trent upright?

by Kurupt on Nov 9, 2008 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

I agree the offensive line needs to play better, but I do think that when the defensive players you are trying to block pretty much know what play you are trying to run, it makes it harder.

And now since I’m playing the guy with Maurice Jones-Drew I will lose in Fantasy as well
And that has been over a third of my opponents points as well, this day officially sucks as the worst day of my fall so far as a sports fan.

Plenty of blame to go around.

Failure to challenge was really a bonehead move. Bellicheat would have hit the Ref in the face with the flag if he wanted the play challenged. Shows lack of decisiveness evident in the gameplan.

by NJBill on Nov 9, 2008 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

Or, it might show that the Bills’ replay folks were late getting the word to Jauron. As I said before – it’s easy to blame Jauron, but it might not have been his fault. It’s not like he blatantly refused to challenge it.

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

by Brian Galliford on Nov 9, 2008 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

Our review guys to blame

DJ chucked the flag late because of them, and the Refs never even saw it, of course, the way around that it to grab an official as they run by and make the wait till you throw it. We would probably win the challenge and then get flagged 15 for doing it.

This mess is on the O coaches and the players excepting Roscoe and ML, they played well today

Fear the mighty helmet wearing gopher, he is coming for your soul....

by WABillsfan on Nov 9, 2008 4:06 PM EST up reply actions

Who's in charge?

It was an obvious incomplete pass. They showed the replay four or five times. In fact I was so upset they weren’t throwing the flag that I had time to jump off the couch, pace into the other room and back again before they ran the next play.

I’m tired of excuses for stupid decisions!

by David Oleksy on Nov 9, 2008 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

I’m not making an excuse, D.O. I’m saying that, in reality, we really don’t know what happened, but it’s easy to blame Jauron.

Yea

It is definetely the people up stairs. Jauron definetely wouldnt get the go ahead to toss the flag and just twiddle his thumbs while the Pats hustled to do the next play.

by jdol1568 on Nov 9, 2008 4:15 PM EST up reply actions

He threw the flag

It just wasn’t seen by the official…as it has been pointed out before, Belichik would never have allowed this type of thing to happen…he would have tackled the official if he had to.

by David Oleksy on Nov 9, 2008 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

Jauron had no problem throwing a challenge flag for a pretty obvious Laverneus Coles catch last week…..Why didn’t that happen here then???

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

by Brian Galliford on Nov 9, 2008 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

I don't care what happened

what happened is that an obvious incomplete pass was allowed because we didn’t challenge. Jauron is the guy holding the flag and he needs to make sure it is thrown and the official is aware. Period…no excuses…no explanations… it just needs to happen.

by David Oleksy on Nov 9, 2008 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

This is year 3 though, and we really don’t have great talent. Jauron and co. have brought in a lot of okay players, but no stars yet. And there have been a TON of mistakes by the front office since his crew came in….

~K

by Kurupt on Nov 9, 2008 4:18 PM EST up reply actions

But we have a base. We didn’t even have that when he came in. All we need is one star – hopefully at DE – and to fortify out trenches, and we’ll be fine.

1. O line
2. Pass rush

Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

by Brian Galliford on Nov 9, 2008 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t see great talent anywhere really. Maybe the young WR’s will develop into very good players, but we’re bad on the OL again, the DL is pathetic, the LB’s are above average, the secondary has some young players, but I see no stars there. Good teams find potential stars and cultivate them, we seem to find character guys who are solid players, but nothing more.

~K

by Kurupt on Nov 9, 2008 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

Like I said – a base. We need a “star” or two, you’re right, but there are a lot of good players on this team.

Also, the DL isn’t pathetic – just the ends. Our tackles are very good.

The o-line wasn’t good but Edwards is worse. 14-23 for 120 yards? Those are the types of numbers that had people calling for JP’s blood. TE can’t play in perfect conditions. Wait till the weather gets bad and then the real fun will begin.

by bflobob8 on Nov 9, 2008 4:21 PM EST reply actions

bflobob is right

If J.P. played this game we would be talking about how bad he is and nothing else. I’m still on the Trent Edwards bandwagon but he needs to be held accountable too.

by David Oleksy on Nov 9, 2008 4:25 PM EST up reply actions

Trent is playing quite awful. If JP wasn’t the backup, I’m sure there’d be calls for Trent’s head.

If he doesn’t improve much, this team is going nowhere, now and in the future. He has to learn consistency and how to put points on the board against good teams. I’m nervous that he’s a guy who can play well against bad teams (like the rest of the Bills), but look like garbage against good teams…..

by Kurupt on Nov 9, 2008 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I still don’t think it’s time to panic on Edwards. Of course, I took a lot of crap for defending Losman for so long, so I wouldn’t be shocked to have to defend Edwards, either…

I admit

After today I don’t have as big of a hard on about the guy as I used to but I still think hes better than J.P. and that he will grow and get better. Plus its his second year, the guys gonna throw some picks.

by jdol1568 on Nov 9, 2008 4:29 PM EST up reply actions

Edwards is a one trick pony and that trick is the short pass to the guy that is standing still. He NEVER leads his reciever. I haven’t seen the #s but I can all but guarantee that we are dead last in the league in YAC. At least JP’s one trick, the deep ball, was exciting. TE had a horrific 5.2 yards per attempt today.

by bflobob8 on Nov 9, 2008 4:26 PM EST reply actions

Yes, we all agree he’s played poorly. But I think we can still attribute a lot of his problems to play-calling, just as we could with Losman. He’s not the only guy at fault, believe me.

i

can’t take it anymore. Just got back from watching the game. As Brian poined out 2 weeks ago.

Shotgun – we pass

under center – we run

That is ludicrous. It’s so vanilla. its so easy to defend against. Never one play action today???? There are serious internal issues of coaching and schemes. No one is on the same page offensively. This is not good. It would be one thing if I thought we were out-talented, but I don’t see that.

And if Dick Jauron thinks on 3rd and 8 he can rush 4, and allow them to throw over the middle one more time I might puke

I wish Brian had media credentials so he could go to OBD and ask Jauron and Schonert why it’s so easy to predict what they’ll run. Why do they pass out of the shotgun every time and run under center? Someone has to call them out. Jerry Sullivan, make yourself useful.

it is insane

what happened to the 2 back shotgun, and being dare I say “unpredictable?” Bottom line, is we don’t run it enough. This cast of characters cannot sit in shotgun and dink and dime. We don’t have that capability yet. RUN THE BALL>>>>RUN THE BALL.>>>>RUN THE BALL

yeah

I was most impressed with Corner today. He tackles well and can cover.

Hardy is nothing more than a jump ball guy and we don’t use him well. McKelvin seems like a KR guy and nothing more. Sure that’s great he is getting better at Kick Off’s but we didn’t draft him for that. We drafted him to defend. He does nothing more than McGee could do…and you could argue McGee could do much more
