Love it or Hate it, Bills fans have passion
I haven't posted anything in a long time for two reasons. 1. the implosion of the team & 2. the overall negativity (well justified). I will begin by saying that I am a "conservative minded play caller", but by no means feel DJ is the coach to take us to the superbowl.
Let me explain why I am in favor of keeping DJ after this season. Throughout the previous 2 years he could have easily been named "Mr. Conservative". And the main reason was the Bills didn't have the talent to be aggressive nor did DJ have the spherical items many men possess below their waist. Now in his 3rd year, we came out aggressive in week 1. Following week 2 we began to see injuries to key players and then "Mr. Conservative" reared his ugly head. Then, the 1-7 run happens. But did anyone notice that in key scenerios DJ has been more aggressive than ever in the past.
Examples 1 - Look at the 10-3 loss to San Francisco. in the 1st quarter The Bills drove the length of the field done by 7, ball in the redzone and we went for it on 4th down and didn't convert. He was blasted for this decision because we lost the game by 7pts with 2 FG misses. I dont blame him for being aggressive and trying to dictate the tempo of the game (especially a HOME game). He trusted his players to take control of the tempo and they failed.
Example 2 - The latest game. To go for it on 4th down with a fake punt in the 1st quarter. You may say it was the dumbest play call ever to hand it to a LB, then back it up by saying jets had poor tackling. I strongly disagree. DJ finally showed a set of "spherical items below the waist". He once again allowed the players to take the tempo the the game away from the opponent. Note, every fake punt we ran this year gave moorman the ball, why not try a play that has never been run. To give the ball to moorman would have been "predictable". Everyone says our play calling is predictable. So you be the judge on this call.
Example 3 - the infamous 2 and 5 pass play. Once again DJ said the call was his and he explained the reasoning. This is were I disagree with DJ, but aplaud the agression. JP or Mr. Turnover could have done what any average QB could have done, take the sack , throw the ball away or run. Instead he tries to make a name for himself and prove to the world that he is a "starting caliber" QB (haha...which he is not). The rollout suited Losmans strength.....get him on the move to ease his "happy feet". Look at the play call this way. If the bills had completed that pass for more than 6 yrds, it would have deflated the Jets. Best case scenerio was the jets getting the ball with 20 seconds on the game clock. I applaud DJ for making a call to WIN the game. Not be conservative, like previous years. The bills have lost many games under DJ (cowboys Monday nite ring a bell) were we played with our tails tucked between the legs and LOST. Remember Herm's quote " You play to win the game".
So I feel DJ has shown he is will to improve his own coaching, by being aggressive. But don't critisize him for being conservative, then turnaround and do the same when is aggressive. You can point out that it is poor timing and bad management, but look at one KEY factor. The PLAYERS have to execute the play. It is those reasons I beileve DJ deserves to be HC for next season. I can go on forever with this topic, but I will open my opinion up to public critique.

Your overall tone is right. He is trying to be more aggressive.
However, ya gotta know when to fold em and when to show em. “fold” is not the right word there, but the play yesterday was not the time to get overly aggressive. Rephrasing it, ya gotta know when to stay conservative and when to take risks.

right on
that’s exactly what’s starting to get my blood boiling. Everything he does he gets blasted for. People rarely point the finger at the players lately, and Jauron is taking all the blame. You have to give it to him for keeping his head when everyone else is blaming him and wants to run him out of town. People need to realize it’s all about the QB. We won 5 games. Edwards went into an abysmal slump where he couldn’t do anything right, then got hurt. JP was miserable, and even yesterday he was pathetic in never throwing a pass farther than 10 yards and was terribly inaccurate.
People think that play call yesterday was bad? Sure. But there’s far more issues than every play call to be dissected. I almost want Jauron to stay now just so everyone that wants to chop his head off can be super pissed when he comes back next year.

Ah, but the coach is the easy target, especially when he’s been the easy target for 3 years.

Here’s the thing….sure, the head coach always will get more flack than individual players, especially for an entire season. It’s not always about the QB, though that position is the most important. We’ve had chances to win games this year even with poor QB play (Cleveland, SF, Jets 2, maybe others), but lost because coaching was so brutal. I’m not placing all of the poor coaching squarely on him, but he is the head guy so he deserves that criticism. Settling for a 47 yard FG against Cleveland, allowing Lynch to get no touches inside the 10 against SF and yesterday’s stupid playcall are just the kind of coaching errors that should never happen, let alone week after week.
He’s head coach, the decisions being made are made through him and he is responsible for them, even if they weren’t directly called by him. He deserves the criticism here even if it’s not completely his fault. It comes with the territory.
Come on Marv, you can’t want him back just to spite us!! Why continue setting the team back like that!?!?!?

i get Marv’s point for sure.
But the guys gotta go. you cannot go 1-9 over the last 10 games of the season after starting 5-1. ESPECIALLY after 3 years of YOUR regime.
you just can’t.
i’m just scared on who they would bring in – our history with quality coaches is not very good
Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider

I guess
I don’t want to spite you guys, but I honestly can’t find the argument to fire him unless you think Ralph is not senile and will bring us a good coach
I’m kind of like a hopless BIlliever. When the Donahoe era ended, Levy came in, Jauron was hired, I said, “this is it, cuz it has to be it.” Ralph is 87, he’s going to the bottom of the barrel, bringing back 80 year old Levy, restructuring the FO, it’s go time for our Bills to get a clean slate and do this right.
I know the argument, that “well don’t fire Jauron cause we can’t get anyone better” is a terrible argument, but I think what Jauron has brought to our draft strategy and Free Agency, and competency as a FO is better than people give him and Brandon, Modrak, etc credit for. I know he is lacking with some in-game management. But against Cleveland, they run it 3 times and you criticize. Against the Jets they throw and it and it blows up in his face and he is criticized. Against the 49ers they don’t run it enough and he is criticized. At the end of the day though, players have to make PLAYS. Obviously people feel the players under a different coach would be what? 8-6, 9-5? Maybe, but I think the betterment of the franchise is to keep Jauron unless (a BIG UNLESS) you bring me a top flight Coach.
I know the coach gets most of the blame, and I know this season has been brutal. I know we are all up in arms cuz we all desperately just want to win.

I have more confidence that Ralph can luck his way into a good coach than I do of Jauron ever leading this team to a winning season here….
Criticizing the 3 runs vs Cleveland and the pass yesterday was done because of the game situation. Settling for a 47 yard FG doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, especially considering they were still going to leave time on the clock for Cleveland. Passing yesterday was just dumb with Losman at QB and a lead that you’re trying to protect. We were inside our own 30 too. Jauron’s game management is just so awful….

Obviously I agree with Kurupt
I don’t hate Jauron. He has done some good things…please don’t make me tell you what they are. But, he is a horrible game day coach. This is not an isolated incident. He has a long track record of bonehead calls, even without him taking responsibility for Turk’s calls.

K, thanks for pointing out the obvious fallacy with trying to compare the coaching decision at Cleveland with the coaching decision at the Jets. The two situations were totally different, in just about every way, and both of them were completely mishandled by the coaching staff.

Look at the silver lining
If DJ can actually change his nature in play calling, passive to aggressive……then he can improve at other things. This team cannot withstand another coaching and FO change and expect to get immediate results. We have a young team with slightly less than 2nd yr QB who will get better. The team will play well when Edwards gets over the roller coaster ride. Not saying we are anywhere near as good as the giants, but remember 2 yrs ago when they lost 6 in a row and just made the playoffs? they had the same skid 2 yrs in a row. but the only thing that changed from the 6 loss in a row giants and the superbowl champs, is tiki barber left and coughlin became a better coach.
Would you rather win one superbowl or Lose four in a row? Which defines your teams place in history more ... 1yr wonder or Perennially 2nd best?
