A large number of people on this board have expressed their desire for the Bills to draft a DE with their #1 pick. Many good and compelling reasons, back by stats and sound logic have been used. Still, I remain unconvinced. I am firmly in the "draft a center" camp. I will not rehash that argument. It was well discussed in keysh67’s excellent post.
Many of us here have also expressed a great respect for Bill Parcells. Bills fans are well acquainted with this resume, as he has coached for every team in the AFC save our Bills. He crushed our best chance at winning a Super Bowl, using the recently described as “cute” power running game to control the clock, and a hard hitting defense to disrupt our high powered offense. Most recently, he has orchestrated what may be our greatest humiliation. IN ONE YEAR, he has taken our most hated rivals, a Miami team that was 1-15, and made them contenders for the AFC EAST crown. He did it by getting the most out of crafty old Pro Bowl veteran defensive players like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas…….no, that is right, they don’t play for the Dolphins any more. Well, he must have done it by drafting a stud DE or LB to replace Thomas and Taylor…..no, that is right, he drafted an offensive lineman with his first round pick. Well, their must not have been any good DEs in last year’s draft then….no, he passed on Chis Long, Glen Dorsey, and Vermon Gholston didn’t he. Interesting…..surely Parcells knows that defense wins Championships!
So, the question that none of the DE people want to answer is: Why did Parcells draft Jake Long instead of Chris Long? Anyone????????
