Bills LT Peters frustrated with team's silence over contractAssociated Press
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Bills starting left tackle Jason Peters will be making his second straight Pro Bowl appearance after being voted in by his peers earlier this week. Whether that translates into a lucrative new contract remains to be seen.
After holding out and missing all of training camp in a bid to renegotiate a five-year deal set to expire after the 2010 season, Peters reported to the Bills the day before their season-opening win against Seattle. At the time, the team told him a new agreement featuring a hefty raise from his $3.25 million base pay would soon be in the works.

This whole situation has me a bit twisted up. I am really happy that we have a good LT like Peters but I think that he is a bit overrated. I'm sure that Ron could give a lot more detail on his performance this year but it seems to me that he has been erratic.
I do believe that deserves a raise but the way he has handled it rubs me wrong. Sitting out all of summer while your teammates bust their butts, that's not what a leader does. Jason needs to set a precedent here for his teammates and it seems to me like he is pouting.
Also, maybe it's just me or does this quote make you cringe a bit:
It is overwhelming," he said. "This is what you play the game for, to get to Hawaii. It is an honor
"To get to Hawaii", does that stike anyone else as selfish? Maybe I am being nitpicky here, but I didn't think that is why you play. I thougt it was to win Super Bowls and to be a champion.
Don't get me wrong, I think Jason should and will get his money and stay here for a while but this whole situation has been poorly handled on both sides.

Funny
how the Bills NOT Peters MADE him into a left tackle. This guy was an oversized unathletic tight end and the Bills converted him. This being said, the guy is a freak of nature. He has excellent feet, great speed and good hands to boot. Making it to Hawaii is always a personal goal of every NFL athlete because that means they are playing better than the rest of the league at their position. Making the pro bowl is awesome and I do think the Bills should sign Peters to a contract extension. Peters is almost 27, and next year he will be 27. This means he is just hitting his prime. How does 6 yrs. and 54 million sound??

Character
I have only seen a couple interviews of Peters, but in everyone he expresses poor character. Like you mentioned in your post, all he cares about is making the Pro-Bowl, he wasn’t to upset about not making the playoffs. Also, he never suggests that he could get better, he always says he is doing a great job.
I think the Bills should trade him. He seems to be 2 things. The first is a cancer in the locker room. Secondly, he would be worth great value in a potential trade. The Bills could use help at the defensive end, outside linebacker, and center position.
I think he’s gone by next year.

And then they’d need help at LT.
Just because he said that is what you play for, doesn’t mean a whole lot to me. I don’t know the context of the question. Is it possible he was asked: “Is this the greatest individual achievement you can have?”
I will never understand why anybody would want to trade Peters. He is by far our best OL. We finally have an elite LT and some people want to trade him. It’s unreal.
If the Bills trade Peters, they will have done something that no other team in the league would do. Have you EVER seen a franchise LT traded as he’s entered his prime?

Bills stated that if he didn't report by camp, no new contract negotians this season.
He showed up after camp, ergo, the Bills won’t touch his deal till after the season. We’ll see him with a new contract before OTAs with alot of new language in it with money tied to him being in Buffalo during the offseason.
Now if only this gopher could play DE, we would be doing better, I mean, who couldn't play better than the corpse brothers Kelsay and Denney?

Peters hasn't been erratic
He has steadily improved over the course of the season. His selfish holdhout really set his performance back and hurt Buffalo during those three divisional losses. I see Buffalo reworking his deal between the close of the season and the draft. My guess is that Peters picks up his phone when the front office calls this offseason…
