The Nail in the coffin (and Poll)
Gotta be right?
The King of CAC, Dick Jauron, went out with barely a whimper. No guts, no glory. If he was coaching for his job, or the players were fighting for it, it sure didn't look like it today. Uninspired, predictable and pathetic football, once again. The story of his tenure as Bills' head coach.
2 years later, we're still treated to a 7-9 season, only this one was more disturbing based on the start. 2 years later, with his players fully in place, the team still can't get above that 7-9 record. Even against the weakest, or close to it, schedule in the league. 0-6 in the division might be the most damning stat. We were 4-2 last year, now we're so bad we couldn't beat any team in the division even once? The Jets and Dolphins not only caught us, they easily passed us.
Jerry Sullivan's (yeah, I know) article today made a point myself and others have been hinting at for a while:
That’s how far we’ve come in six years. Wilson says he wants continuity.
He already has it. It’s almost as if he never changed coaches. It’s been one continuous run of mediocrity. Wade Phillips, Williams, Mike Mularkey, Jauron. Paste on a new face, same results.
Same poor head coaching every year. Even though I doubt we'd hire anyone much better, knowing Ralph's track record, can the team really stick with Jauron? Can it really afford the backlash from the fans and probably empty seats next year?
Today has to be the last straw for the old man. How any head coach can survive a season like this that was littered with boneheaded coaching decisions every week, and a complete total collapse is beyond me. The pathetic end to the first half was so unsurprising, I can't believe I thought it could end any other way. It's unreal that we see this garbage every week and every season.
Continuity is not something we should aspire for here. We want results, not fear of change! We want a winner even if it means making some tough moves. Just do something other than standing pat. Jauron has proven himself fully incapable of leading this team to a winner....
Also, when his only redeeming qualities and reasons to keep him include "he's a nice guy" and he just signed a new contract, there's a major problem. Every week we're complaining about multiple problems with his coaching the prior game, isn't that problematic? The fact that we are arguing about him every week is a pretty solid indication that there is a pretty sizeable problem. Whether Ralph has the werewithal to actually know how to fix it, who knows, but you can't keep a problem in place without at least trying to remedy it. There is nothing to defend about Jauron anymore, not that there was much to begin with. His time is up, he must go bye bye.

I feel stupid for thinking we were good when we were 5-1. We sucked this year.
Kawika Mitchell is a leader. He will help this young team develop.

I believe we were good...
When we were 5-1, I believe we were good. Poor or absent leadership led us to a total collapse, and that includes coaches, front office and players. We could not handle adversity. How we performed in the first New England game spelled doom for me. It was the same old Bills. We go in with the same damn game plan, no surprises on offense or defense, and expect to win?
I only feel stupid, really humiliated, for believing we were a playoff team at 5-1.
I watched Miami beat the Jets today. Miami, now there’s a team that is well-coached. 11 turnovers all season. With a rookie head coach! Ralph might get it right in my lifetime, but I doubt it.
This season has been the worst feeling ever provided by our Bills...a feeling of humiliation. Starting out 5-1 and finishing in last place has been a very cruel tease.

We weren't good
We struggled to beat 4 of the worst teams in the league to start the year.

thanks K – that was my point at the time as well.
I really do think that we have gone backwards. 0-6 in the division should be the indicator here because if you cannot win the division (or one game in the division for that matter) then your going to be screwed year in and year out.

Right on K
we as fans cannot be satisfied with continuity after three 7-9 seasons. since when does continuity count for anything when you don’t win. this team is not any closer then it was 3 seasons ago. some may say we are more talented overall but why do we end up with the same record? 1 word – coaching. Jauron is a mediocre coach who cannot get over the preverbial hump.

just doing
something to do something is not the answer. I don’t have the answers right now. I think my brother helped me put it into perspective today though when he said, “it doesn’t seem like Jauron gets the most out of his players.” I agree. I think we have better talent than our record. I really do. I love Jauron, and am 60/40 to keep him. But in no way will I be vehemently mad if Ralph cans him tomorrow. But, Please, Ralph if you do, have a frickn plan!

What else can we do ?
We have a good defense . Statistics are misleading because we turn over the ball so much ( 2nd in the leauge to san fran ), leading to the opposition haveing more chances for yards and points . Offense we have a decent o-line a great RB functional qb ( Top 15 ) and probably the best deep threat in the game . Amazing special teams . With this easy a schedule we should have at least competed till the end . the only thing we can do for at least a three game turn around is either hire mike martz or any other genius or a great head coach cowher or spagnolia . A new coach is a necessity .
Please the playoffs again in my life time

I think Martz would be a better fit somewhere else. Martz’s offense is too much like Schonert’s, albeit probably better managed.

Maybe...
But I tell you one thing, it would not be predictable. The big argument is whether he could commit to the power running game. I think he is smart enough to be able to adapt. Edwards is his type of QB. We would finally see some slants with YAC potential. Evans would dance the jig!!!!

Martz has proven himself as a HC in warm conditions
I don’t know he has had the chance in cold weather. I agree his “greatest show on turf” would not work in Buffalo. He would have to adapt. I think he is smart enough to do so. That said, he is not my first choice for HC.

ME too
"it doesn’t seem like Jauron gets the most out of his players." I agree.
Poz, Whitner, McKelvin…those are three of his top defensive draft picks. Players who should be running faster, and hitting harder, and getting crazy out there on the field. We shoudl be tough, and dispise the opposition when we see them. Not patting them on the back when they get a first down Ko Simpson!
Why don’t you shake the defenses hand when they sack Edwards. Is that because we just give up? I think so. I don’t care how nice anyone is, I just want players who are out there looking to punish other teams, and get some spark on this team.
We have pockets of energy…Lynch, Jackson and Mckelvin are two players I see who are trying to just go with their natural ability and pump up the team, but every player is guilty of jsut respecting the coach and doing the right thing, and that is the only reason we are 7-9 and not 2-14, but we will never get above 500 with Jauron, becauset to me, the poor coaching is stunting the growth of this team. We need a winner and we need it now.

I was surprised how the half ended
I would have thought the Bills had run out of ways to screw up. Apparently, this is the area of the game where Jauron excels at being creative.

i can't
blame jauron for the end of the half mess. They practice it every week. It was the offenses fault for not getting off the field and the refs BLEW THE WHISTLE which should have stopped the clock. I tivo’d and the whistles clearly blew. clock should have stopped. So don’t try to pin Jauron’s incompetence on that cuz he had nothing to do with that at all. These are grown men tha practice that play every Friday.

Blowing the whistle doesn’t stop the clock….If that was the case, why doesn’t the clock stop after every play?
They didn’t get the play in to Trent until way to late and they had to rush to the line and run a stupid up the middle run. That’s squarely on the coaches shoulders.

yeah
but they had 22 seconds to get the ST unit out there. They practice that every week. The refs blew the whistle and one was waving his hands with the “stop clock” signal. It was complete BS. Ultimately the players are to blame for not getting off the field. That is the sole reason for that debacle. Idiot players. You cannot in any way blame the coaches for that. Sure they got the play in late, but that had no bearing on the next play

Preston is the biggest culprit there
He STARTED the bleeding shoving match, and Belichek has his boys trained properly. Hobbs pushed back and made sure he had enough backup to keep Preston out of the huddle or FG formation. That is just plain good coaching on their part. AND REALLY STUPID on Prestons part to shove him and put the Bills behind the 8 ball.
I am SO glad his ass is toast now.
Now if only this gopher could play DE, we would be doing better, I mean, who couldn't play better than the corpse brothers Kelsay and Denney?

Meanwhile Ralph Wilson will be taking his sweet time to decide what to do next, and likely the Bills will have no choice but to retain Dick’s services at that point.

Dick Jauron's Press Conference...The questions we really wanted answered
Q: What did you do to prepare for facing Belicheck?
A: Well, I bought this hoodie.

Q: Is there any area of the game in which you were not out coached?
A: No……No, I can’t really think of one.

Q: Who here thinks Jauron should be fired immediately?
