What to think? Give me 3 things

So Jerry Sullivan on WGR this morning when he asked Ralph outside the team's locker room about his team's performance in Canada...Sullivan said the 90 year old Wilson "laughed."  He said "i'm used to it."

Joe D commented its simple....we have no QB and the conversation ends at that.

I think regardless of what your thoughts on this team are, today as a Bills fan you are completely discouraged.  The Bills are 6-7, one may ask how did they win 6 games?  The display in Toronto was wretched.  The future of the franchise is in question.

I come to this fanpost today saying.....this is rock-bottom in a different way.  The 3 year Jauron experiment has come to a frustrating and bitter end (or seems to be the end).  With 3 games to go, the season is over, and it can't get over soon enough for the Bills players (most notably the admirable players doing their job like Bryan Scott, Kyle Williams, Brad Butler, Lynch, Jackson, Jason Peters, Posluszny, and many others)and Dick Jauron.  Regardless of what anyone says, this team has talent.  We need a QB, we need confidence, and we need a leader.

Today as Bills fans, come to this fanpost and just do one thing for me.  Give me 3 reasons for hope for 2009.  Please, help all of us have hope, and reason to have any faith?  Let's brainstorm here.  THis franchise will be in Buffalo for at least 4 more years.  How do we make the most of it?  How do we turn this frown upside down?

All of us have our stories.  How we grew up with the team, our father's that bleed Bills colors, our social gatherings that all revolve around the Bills, so many memories.  But here today, not only is our season over, but for the first time, the reality that our franchise disgraced us yesterday was appauling.  It hurts.  It's personal.  It should be.  We deserve better.  And if all us Bills fans have the passion to get our team right in the winning ways, why can't our owner and front office do that as well???

Ten reasons for hope

1. Trent Edwards in the first five games of the year is how good Trent Edwards can be.

2. Leodis McKelvin has gotten better every week.

3. The Bills don’t have Matt Millen running the show.

4. Bruce Smith is gonna get in the Hall of Fame (not hope but you can look forward to it anyways)

5. Beast Mode

6. Marcus Stroud and Kyle Williams

7. Last two weeks the Defense has given up 10 and 16 points with NO OFFENSIVE HELP to speak of. THey have been on the field more often than not but have not broken.

8. JP is leaving

9. Nox magazine’s Arab-American Athlete of the Year: Gibran Hamdan

10. Brian Moorman had some good punts yesterday.

Cross off #2. I don’t know what’s happened to him, but he isn’t the same guy he was in years past….

yea, he’s definately having an “off” year.

but he’s been the pillar of our offense for years so i can’t abandon him now…

“pillar of our offense” – how sad and how true

Nice idea, Marv. Rec’d

1 – If we have a guy who realizes it calling the plays, the Bills have some basic parts to field a dominant rushing attack.

2 – Leodis McKelvin, if coached well, has an opportunity to become one of the best players at his position.

3 – Trent Edwards still hasn’t sucked to the point where we need to consider drafting another quarterback.

Well worded.

3 things to look forward to in '09

1- More Rumblings; maybe even new, futuristic technology (like optional spell-check, or game film?)

2- No more J.P.

3- Possible pass rush through draft/ FA.

Sweet home Orchard Park.

Looking forward to 2009...

1) Trent/Lynch/Jackson/Evans/Peters are all under contract, QB, RB Duo, Pro bowl Left tackle & #1 wideout. Not bad at all in my book. These are the most crucial building blocks and we have them in place.

2) Alex Mack is being called the best Center to come out of the draft in over 15 years. I have hope that he’ll be on the board at 11-13 when we pick so this brings me hope that 2009. A strong Center being so crucial to establishing a strong running game, I think 2009 will be the year “BEAST MODE” puts us into the playoffs!

3) Yesterday I got the biggest boost of all when Russ Brandon made his comments yesterday to USA TODAY. Russ is the COO, which ultimately means that he’s the guy in charge so it’s nice to see that he is pissed off enough to say something. It’s the first time in the season that he’s said anything. I choose to believe that he will be motivated to follow up on that comment and make some serious changes in the staff and try hard to bring in a competent football mind either through a strong GM or HC/GM like Cowher/Schottenheimer

Pessimism is not welcomed here!

Last time I checked he came back and actually played pretty well most of the season. This post is not a bash peters post. I disagree with what he did but he did come back so I think we need to let it go. Everyone is allowed an error in judgement. He has been a good teamate and has not been a distraction this season so it’s a forgotten issue in my mind.

I'm not bashing him....

just saying he was under contract last offseason, too. If you have read any of my posts I am an eternal optimist.

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned that Melvin Fowler and Duke Preston are both unrestricted free agents (I guess Keysh kinda mentioned it by bringing up Mack). That has to be the single most exciting thing (sadly) for me.

The potential development of Trent Edwards into an above average QB is the other biggie.

I’m not sure I can think of a third thing :(

by kaisertown on Dec 8, 2008 7:12 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I've got you covered Kaiser

1- Fowler/Preston/J.P./Denney/Royal (I hope) all gone next year.
2- Marshawn Lynch, need I say more?
3- The 2007 Miami Dolphins. That team won 1 game last year, look what they have accomplished in 1 offseason. There is always hope my friend, you just need to know where to look.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

The Fins cleaned house....a complete remodel

will the Bills have the guts to do the same?

by Joe P. on Dec 8, 2008 9:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think so, but thats not that point.
They went from league doormat, to potentially winning the division.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

The point is that turnaround was no accident,

It didn’t just happen. You can put A1 on a hamburger and it still won’t taste like steak. You want steak, you have to buy steak!

with the comments from Brandon & Wilson yesterday

there is hope that something will give way in the off season.

by keysh67 on Dec 8, 2008 11:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

nope

and I wouldn’t say it’s because of guts, per se. It has more to do with no GM and no one truly in charge….The FO structure is such a clusterf&&&

Nice

I might change three to something like Johnson (I think he has the potential to be our #2 receiver) or McKelvin.

by Hopefulcynic on Dec 9, 2008 4:30 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

My shot

1. The OL and RB are one center and one OC away from being a dominant rush offense
2. With Schobel back from his sabbatic year and a good pass-rush DE the defense has all in place to be top 10 (at least)
3. The rest of the AFC East is not in good shape, honestly. We are stinking, and yet it took 14 full weeks to go out of the playoff race. Just become a decent team, and the AFC East is up for grabs.
