Beer tents tried to masquerade as tailgate parties, our national anthem was well and truly mangled -- saved only by those in the stands taking over the job -- and the on-field action was abysmally boring. Fans from Buffalo didn't like the venue, in part because the Bills lost their so-called "cold-field" advantage. It's unlikely that's what caused the Bills' poor performance, but as Hamilton fans know, any excuse is a good excuse. Ticket prices were ridiculously high, particularly given that fans from Buffalo had to travel to a foreign country to watch a home game.
TheSpec.com - No need here for boring Bills. Haven't heard much from y'all on your opinions on the Toronto experience, whether you were there are not. Please, discuss.

I think that if the Raiders game had been in Toronto I would be less against it. Early in the year, against a nondivision opponent.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.
Sure, but I’ve heard these before. I’m more curious to know what y’all thought about what the stadium looked like, what you heard from the crowd, what you’ve read, etc. etc. :)

Shame on Ralph Wilson and management
Shame on them for doing this. Never was in support of it and don’t think it serves any benefit to the team.

I actually think that it does. We might not all like it. But you cannot deny over 9 million a game for going up there. Buffalo area has under 300,000 people in it now, theres over 70,000 seats in our stadium.
I don’t like it either – but I also think that this will help keep the team in Buffalo.
I also don’t buy the whole first step to move to Toronto thing – the collective bargaining agreement is based off of a judgement in the USA. Moving a team to Canada would be very very messy for the league. Playing a few games there but keeping the team in the states is a logical solution to try and tap into that market.
just what i think

The City of Buffalo has about 270,000ish, but the greater Buffalo area still has over a million people living here. I havn’t seen any numbers recently, but it is probably over 1.1 mil.
The reason Buffalo is playing a game in Toronto isn’t to sell tickets to games here, it is to sell corporate lucury boxes and get better ticket revenue in general from the wildly overpriced tickets.
I also don’t buy the whole first step to move to Toronto thing
I agree, tthat theory doesn’t even make sense.
Here's what I think
I think had the Bills been 8-4 coming in, beaten the dolphins, the whole damn thing would have been a success. Actions speak louder than words.
Undoubtedly the idiotic sky-rocket ticket prices and idea in the first place, were Ralph being greedy, but the product stunk. 3 pts??? Terrible. Not one marketable player in the game. Next year this game should be in the first 4 weeks of the season, and if Goodel wants to sell it, put the thing on National TV and pin em against a sexy team. That’s the only way you are going to make the game appealing to Toronto.
MARVelous
Exactly, and well put.
I think this game should be played up there when the weather is warmer and the roof is open. It would add to the experience and keep the late-season home field advantage in place.
I still hate the idea and don’t think this will lead to newfound success for the Bills.

Plus, if it’s early enough in the season, people might actually still be interested in this team!

They have to play the game late in the year.
The Argos have first dibs on the field up until November or so.
Good call. It’s tough remembering the Argos and the CFL even exist. I think Ralph actually wants the games later in the year too because that is typically when Buffalo struggles to sell tickets and next year might be one of those years where we get a december game or two blacked out. I bet the Toronto game next year will be in early to mid december again.
Only if the extra money is used to better the team
Cause otherwise – who cares, right? I totally agree with the concept of trying to find innovative ways of increasing revenue for a small market team in order to compete with the bigger market teams. If Wilson simply pockets the money then he’s simply disrespectful and doesn’t deserve such a great fan base. If he doesn’t re-invest a portion into bettering this team then he’d better never complain about being a small market team again because he’ll be a hypocrite.
I am a Montrealer that owns 4 season tickets at the Ralph. I was very supportive of the 8 game series not because I want the team to move (far from it) I was hoping that this series was going to solidify the franchise in Buffalo. I figured that the new buzz in Toronto would create some new fans that inevitably would venture down to Buffalo to catch a game or two during the regular season. There is no other place like it, the Ralph is incredible! The fans are great, they know their football, they are complete die-hards and most of all they are LOYAL. There is no way that Toronto could replicate that experience so I figured the 8 game series could only help strengthen the Bills in Buffalo. When I saw the absurd pricing levels that were being proposed I opted not to encourage such greed. Unfortunately I now believe that the whole experiment might have an adverse effect, it was a complete and utter joke last Sunday. There seemed to be so many empty seats and the seats that actually had people sitting in them were predominantly wearing Dolphins apparel!
My roommate went to the game and said the fans were pathetic (which we could all tell from TV). He said the crowd was about 50% Bills fans, 20% of the people simply didn’t care and 30% of the crowd were actually cheering for the Dolphins. After talking to some people he discovered that most of the Fin fans, weren’t actually Dolphin fans but were cheering for Miami because Ricky Williams played in Toronto and they all liked him. If Buffalo played a team other than Miami, it probably would have been a more pro-Bills crowd.
LOL more pro-Bills, or more subdued? I’m thinking that the NFL might have realized that Ricky Williams would be a draw up there… if it wasn’t a deciding factor for moving this game, at the very least it was icing on the cake.

agreed
Ricky “Pothead” Williams has a lot of fans in Toronto.
Plus I think they wanted to make a statement about the whole 8 game series and give it some validity and sending a big rivalry game to Canada was a great way of doing it. I was as disappointed as the rest of you but logically if they wanted to prove that they were serious about playing in Canada, this was a good way of proving it.
I’m not sure anyone should have expected a great atmosphere. With the ridiculous prices, the supposed inability to tailgate in the area, a lame duck Bills team, a rather boring Dolphins team and a non-NFL city, I can’t envision this ever having the atmosphere the organizers had hoped….

Ha, yeah, but if you ask them, it was – as Borat would say – great success.
I personally have never been more bored watching a game of professional football. Even if you’re watching Chiefs/Raiders, the fans are into it – even if the stadium is two-thirds empty. Sunday was pathetic. I’m actually looking forward to this weekend’s Jets game, because there’s going to be some emotion in the stadium.

The atmosphere Sunday was as bad as it was for the preseason game against Pittsburgh there, maybe even worse. Maybe, just a little bit, the uninspired play from both teams was a result of the docile crowd.

The team should not get off that easy.

Can't blame that crap on the 12th man
With the way they’ve been playing they don’t deserve the 12th man!
Two games in which they can’t score more than a field goal – crap! I drove down for the 49ers game with 15 other people and witnesses the same crap as last weekend and the 12th man was in play the whole game at the Ralph and it didn’t make a dent so please do not find excuses for their poor performance. The Toronto venue sucks but it wasn’t the problem!
