Show us you first round Mocks

I thought it would be fun to have one place for people to place their first round mocks.  That way, during the day, we can go back and see how good folks are at their prognostications.  It doesn't have to be fancy or have explanations, just a plain old draft.

Some problems I have on a pretty good mock:

- I don’t think the Ravens will take Matt Ryan at 8, let alone trade up for him.
- I like the NE trade you’ve got – VERY plausible – but at 10, the Pats would take Branden Albert, NOT McKelvin.
- Two O-Linemen for KC? Wouldn’t shock me, but I can’t see them moving back up for one after taking one. I’d have put Harvey as the guy they chose at 11.
- Watch the Broncos take Rashard Mendenhall. Shanny always passes on O-Linemen.
- I like WR to Philly, but I honestly believe that pick will be Sweed or Harvey.
- Dallas would take Antoine Cason over Brandon Flowers. They might take Cason at 22, in fact.

Otherwise, some of the trades look good, and the move the Bills pulled in this scenario is exactly what I hope happens today. :)

Hmmm

Why wouldn’t the Ravens take Ryan, or move up for him? Shall they stick with Boller or Troy Smith? If they have a chance to get Ryan, they have to do it. I still see Ryan at #3.

- Watch the Broncos take Rashard Mendenhall. Shanny always passes on O-Linemen.

Ok, but doesn’t he ALWAYS pass on running backs? Right now, they have a bunch of scrubs/backups on their OL and are desperate for some help. Shanny can find his RB in the mid rounds (a guy like Forte, Kevin Smith, etc).

Agree on Philly. They’re like us, they don’t need another smallish, quick WR. Hardy is the perfect fit for them, IMO. BTW, I’m really liking Hardy this past week and would not mind adding him at all. I’ve seen more and more tape on him and he just looks a lot more fluid than from what I saw before. I still think he’ll struggle off the line of scrimmage, but his speed is deceptive and him being such a red zone threat would be incredible. If we trade down or back into the 1st, I could definitely see us taking him.

Forte is a second-round pick right now – the Bears and Colts are interested. Yes, the Broncos always pass on runners, so perhaps I should have been clearer – if the Broncos are making a surprise pick, it’s a RB and not an OL, in my opinion.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 26, 2008 9:22 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can’t see that happening. They really need to fortify their OL and could potentially get the #2 or #3 OT at 12. They HAVE to make that pick, IMO. RB’s can always be found later on, plus Mendenhall only truly carried the load for one year, so he’s a little bit of a question mark IMO.

On the contrary, I’d prefer drafting a one-year wonder at running back, as they don’t come in with wear on their tires. That fact makes Mendenhall MORE attractive to me.

Denver isn’t getting the #2 or #3 OT at 12 if Buffalo’s trading partner has anything to say about it… :)

Pretty darn solid

but no Johnathan Stewart and only 2 WR’s? I have a feeling Stewart could actually go ahead of Mendenhall.

Not sure I can see 3 trades in the top 11 though. It’s very possible, but somewhat unlikely, IMO. They all make a ton of sense though.

I can’t see Calais Campbell in round 1, and probably not round 2 either. He’s fat, lazy, slow and not much of a pass rusher. I would hate it if my team wasted a pick on that guy today. BUST!

Sam Baker seems a little high, but ya never know.

Good work.

If anybody wants to throw a mock in

go right ahead. This thread isn’t all about me. LOL

Let the mayhem begin!

1. Miami—Jake Long Duh
2. Saints (from Rams) Dorsey They’ve been bartering for days. When the Rams are on the clock the Saints can’t help themselves and overpay for Dorsey. With the Rams needing a lot of high picks they’re delighted to get the Saints’ second and next year’s third knowing Harvey will be on the board at #10.
3. Falcons McFadden (hey need help on the lines and a QB but they need a face of the franchise even more. Plus, McFadden can produce immediately while a QB would need a year or more to develop. Naturally this is contingent on the team knowing with absolute certainty that McFadden isn’t into dog fighting or is at least smart enough to put that hobby on hold for 15ish years in the interest of making millions of dollars.
4. Oakland Chris Long Al Davis the sentimentalist? He did move his team back to Oakland… Oh, and Long is likely to be really, really good.
5. Patriots (from KC) Gholston It won’t cost them much and Gholston seems just like Belicheat’s kind of player.
6. Jets Ellis Their defensive line needs help. Here’s hoping that Ellis, like Robertson, is woefully miscast in the 3-4. Also, those USC guys seem to have other priorities than football so it’s a good thing he’s going to a small town where those distractions won’t be omnipresent. Oh, wait…
7. KC (from Pats) Branden Albert Piece #1 for the offensive line which needs two starters from the draft to save Herm Edwards’ job, the fans from another dismal season, and Croyle’s life.
8. Ravens Ryan Man, has this team needed a franchise QB for a long time.
9. Cincy Rivers Their LBs just plain suck. Not only that, they trash their good LBs when they retire with broken necks on their official website. It’s a cruel fate for Rivers but at least he might get some Pro Bowl nods from other players out of sympathy.
10. Rams (from Saints) Harvey They have old DEs. Time for an upgrade, preferably one who won’t kill and/or maim anyone while driving drunk.
11. Chiefs (from Bills) Clady Starter #2 for the offensive line. With McKelvin on the board and the Bills at least making noises about taking him the Chiefs overpay to get their guy. Ralph Wilson mumbles something in the background about knowing how that feels while Jauron rubs his face to hide a smile at his ability to con the Chiefs into letting Buffalo slide back to #17 while picking up their 2nd rounder.
12. Bears (from Broncos) Mendenhall The Bears don’t wait for the Lionss to move up to #13 and take Mendenhall. Benson is a dud so they really need an effective runner. Moving up to #12 won’t cost much and ends the suspense with their division rival.
13. Panthers Williams Their offensive line sucks. How many QBs did they go through last season? Didn’t they put in a call to Joe Ferguson at some point to see if he’d come out of retirement?
14. Broncos (from Bears) McKelvin The slide finally stops, which is a good thing as the Bills might have taken him at #17. Yes, it’s perfectly clear that their offensive line needs help but Shanahan wants to prove that he’s smarter than we are. Given that he has 2 Super Bowl rings and we, collectively, have zero maybe he has a point. Bastard.
15. Lions DRC Still thoroughly pissed that the Bears saved Mendenhall from his inept clutches, Matt Millen takes his best player available. Usually this has been something like the kiss of death so spare a thought for DRC and all that he could have become had he not been tainted by his association with Millen.
16. Cardinals Otah With Russ Grimm overseeing their offensive line, the Cards get him someone to turn into Faneca. Hopefully Otah won’t later pout about not getting paid enough and then decide to become a Jet.
17. Bills (from KC) Sweed It was all an elaborate ruse! The Bills gave the game away when they said that Kelly’s dismal running times and his tendency to cry like a little girl when things don’t go his way didn’t have any effect on where he was on their board. Jauron wipes the sweat from his brow, happy that the (to his mind) giant risk of not taking Sweed at #11 paid off.
18. Well, who on this board really cares? We got to the pick that we actually do care about….

McFadden

No way does Atlanta draft McFadden. They are a team with needs everywhere other than RB. They just gave Michael Turner a 6 year 34.5 mil contract. Jerious Norwood averaged 6.0 yards per carry last season (102 rushes) and 6.4 yards per carry in 2006 (99 rushes).

Falcons

So your theory is that the Falcons will pick logically?

by Ron From NM on Apr 26, 2008 11:13 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd agree with Kaiser

but after the first pick they have 3 second rounders to screw up, so I’ll go with you there…
