NFL Draft: Round Three Open Thread

Welcome to Day Two of Buffalo Rumblings' coverage of the 2008 NFL Draft!  This is going to be a short post that will serve as the open thread for the very early portion of Round 3.  The Miami Dolphins start today's picking process off with pick #64, and the Bills are scheduled to pick at #72, so we should not have to wait long for Buffalo's next selection.

So this will be a short one.  Give us a shout out if you're here for day two!

TE, C or Dan Conner if he's available

I think the Bills will go with the best TE available but if Conner is available it will be tough to pass him up. Finley from Texas will be nice if he is available.

by grenoire on Apr 27, 2008 9:58 AM EDT reply actions

I’m doubtful that Connor will be there. I think they’ll pick between Cottam and Rucker… but then again, that’s just a wild guess.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Lions

to pick first today according to NFL network… Didn’t catch what they gave up

by Cinga on Apr 27, 2008 9:58 AM EDT reply actions

Interesting. They could be after Connor, even if they did draft Jordan Dizon…

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

Wrong again! According to ESPN, it’s going to be Charles Godfrey…

Gave up

3rd and sixth for the top pick in rd 3

Colts fans? They view him as a reach…

Probably is in the 2nd,

but the Colts do a good job of evaluating talent.

by Joe P. on Apr 27, 2008 10:08 AM EDT up reply actions

There it is. I must have been hearing things on Godfrey… clear the cobwebs out of your brain, Brian…

That’s a strong pick for the Lions.

Mornin' gentlemen...

Who are the BPA available, regardless of position?

by krytime on Apr 27, 2008 10:08 AM EDT reply actions

Dan Connor, Justin King are the big-name defenders. There are some good tight ends too. And, of course, the quarterbacks…

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Conner, Dan

I like Dre Moore, DT

I thought he would be gone in the 2nd.

by Joe P. on Apr 27, 2008 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Good morning!

Great question. I would like the Bills’ second day focus to be on getting deeper, younger, and better in the trenches.

by Fort Worth on Apr 27, 2008 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Miami would be crazy to pass him here. They seem to be liking those Big Ten guys, and they need a middle ‘backer to replace Zach Thomas…

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions

What would you do with him? Poz?

I would rather not have a rookie in the middle again.

by Joe P. on Apr 27, 2008 10:12 AM EDT up reply actions

No… groom him to replace Crowell on the strong side, as he’s a FA in 2009.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:13 AM EDT up reply actions

It always amazes me

As much as I gather info on prospects, there is always a guy taken early that I ve never heard of.

Who is John Greco?

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

by sireric on Apr 27, 2008 10:12 AM EDT reply actions

He’s a good solid interior lineman. He played tackle in college, but he’ll shift inside to the pros. Sporting News thinks very highly of him, and they actually had him rated ahead of Albert.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Brian

Can Branch play safety too? Was that one of the reasons you liked him?

by krytime on Apr 27, 2008 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

He is actually considered by many to be an outstanding prospect as a Cover-2 safety. I liked him as a corner and a kick returner though… and we already have two of those.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Falcons

Chevis Jackson… 3 to go

by Cinga on Apr 27, 2008 10:18 AM EDT reply actions

Once again, just FYI – when the Bills make their pick, there will be a thread up on the front page for immediate reactions. So hop on over there as soon as the pick is announced. :)

Pats on the clock

NFL network makes me sick, lots more love for the Pats from them about their manovering to get 3 third round picks

by grenoire on Apr 27, 2008 10:20 AM EDT reply actions

Talking Falcons on ESPN… much less nauseating.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:20 AM EDT up reply actions

TE or Connor

If Connor is there I’d rather see Buffalo take him than a TE who likely won’t contribute this season. At the very least Connor would be a special teams stud right away and gives the team a little breathing room in case Crowell wants crazy money.

by Ron From NM on Apr 27, 2008 10:20 AM EDT reply actions

What about DTs Ron?

Would you take one of them now?

by krytime on Apr 27, 2008 10:21 AM EDT up reply actions

For… Jacob Hester?! First “FB” off the board…

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

If it is, so be it. There’s MUCH better value in the third round.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Chargers take

Hester… First fb down….

by Cinga on Apr 27, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Hester???

Didn’t think they had to trade up for him.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

by sireric on Apr 27, 2008 10:22 AM EDT up reply actions

I think Conner will go to the Pats here

Even though they went LB in round 1 their LB’s are really getting long in the tooth

by grenoire on Apr 27, 2008 10:22 AM EDT reply actions

WOuld love Conner

But maybe we need our FB now

by Cinga on Apr 27, 2008 10:23 AM EDT reply actions

Taking a FB here would be a TERRIBLE move.

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Connor

Can he play all 3 LB positions?

by Fort Worth on Apr 27, 2008 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Probably, but he’s a MLB by trade. He’d probably play SLB in Buffalo, unless the Bills wanted to shift Poz outside (unlikely).

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions

SD gave up a 2nd?

How this this stuff continually fall into NE’s lap?

by krytime on Apr 27, 2008 10:25 AM EDT reply actions

That’s ridiculous. For Jacob Hester!

by Brian Galliford on Apr 27, 2008 10:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Pats get a 2nd next year

Yikes! If someone offers Buffalo a 2nd next year I hope they jump on it.

by Ron From NM on Apr 27, 2008 10:25 AM EDT reply actions

Gooden taken before Conner?

by sireric on Apr 27, 2008 10:27 AM EDT reply actions

Best Player Available

I’m more of a needs guy than BPA but since the Bills aren’t likely to get a starter they can get guys from pretty much any position. With the special teams holes LB makes a lot of sense.

Davis was gone long ago…

Wow

What the hell are the Bills doing. First they could’ve had Dan Connor with a load of upside, good history with Pozluzny, and no character problems, and they instead choose Chris Ellis who is all the opposite with no history with any Bills players. They then choose yet another conerback who isn’t very tall so it’s not like he will be later used to cover Randy Moss. Reggie Corner is basically another Jabari Greer, except with out the experience… I would’ve liked to have seen the Bills somehow manage to draft Martin Rucker there. Next Derek Fine was chosen, who really isn’t that great of an offensive force…at all. Kellen Davis is still on the board and has a ton of upside. Why not take a chance on a more athletic player like him and see if he can compete with Robert Royal, Courtney Anderson, and Teyo Johnson. Next, in the 5th round is when the Bills should have thought about getting a DE, who probably wouldn’t be much different than drafting DE Chris Ellis. Since the Bills aren’t planning on cutting or trading either of their starting DE’s, it’s not like they needed to use a 3rd round draft pick on a DE. I would’ve like to seen the Bills draft a DE in the 5th round.

This is how i would’ve like to had seen the Bills draft end up…

1.) Leodis Mckelvin, CB, Troy (or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie)
2.) James Hardy, WR, Indiana
3.) Dan Connor, LB, Penn State
4.) Kellen Davis, TE, Michigan St.
4.) Owen Schmitt, FB, WVU
5.) Trevor Scott, DE, Buffalo
6.) Matt Flynn, QB, LSU
7.) Kirk Barton, OT, Ohio State
7.) Best Avaliable
7.) Best Avaliable
