DraftTek trade for Shepard

I saw on DraftTek.com that they have the Bills trading our #11 pick and our #147 pick (4th round) to the Eagles for Lito Shepard and their #19 (they have us taking Devan Thomas at #19). This would be a dream come true if it results in three things:

  1. We can sign Lito to a long term deal (4/5 years) without giving him Samuel or Clement money.
  2. This doesn't effect us resigning Evans.
  3. This doesn't effect us resigning Crowell.
IMO, the signing of Shepard would allow McGee to be the #2 CB and give us a top 5 defense.

Also IMO, if we sign Evans and Shepard or Crowell and Shepard, this would give us a bigger whole next year to fill at WR or LB. I  love the talent it brings, but it will also bring a high cost.

Do you think this could happen?
Do you think we can sign all three (will Shepard cost too much)?
If we do this trade, who would you rather sign, Evans or Crowell?

nah
Lito is going to want a ton of money. If the Bills weren't willing to pay Nate (thank god), they won't pay Lito. I would like the trade a lot if it didn't involve an extension for Shepard though, but considering our scheme, relative CB depth, and CB availability in the draft, I don't see the need to sink a lot of money into Lito.

signing
And I would rather sign Crowell. Evans is either going to have a great season and demand a ton of money, at which point I would franchise him and work on something, or a bad season and reaffirm his mediocrity and Peerless-esque reputation.

I still think Lee could have a great career, but he is going to have to improve his YAC ability (especially breaking tackles) and production over the middle.

Crowell will demand something much more reasonable than Evans, and has shown he is a consistent defensive leader and a very good player.

Sheppard
Don't we have cap space to sign Sheppard to a new deal? We probably shouldn't command the money of Samuels or Clements. Only problem is that Oakland gave Deangelo Hall a ridiculous deal this offseason and that could serve as the price tag.

Evans
I would resign evans. good WRs are much harder to come by than LBs. if we lose crowell we're one 1st round pick away from replacing him. crowell leaves a lot to be desired anyways in the athleticism department.

resigning
I really like Crowell, and would like to see the Bill resign him, but you're correct that Evans would be tougher to replace. Evans should be more of a priority to resign than Crowell.
Man do I miss #78

since we're in agreement
That the Bills will most likely sign a top 3 to 5 wideout and a top 3 tight end, wouldn't it be prudent to wait until next off-season to decide whether Crowell or Evans is the more important resigning? If our rookies show enough to make Evans dispensable it could make Crowell more important or if the offense is high flying with Evans and the rookies together, it could make Evans more important.

I agree to a point
The risk you take in waiting is that Evans has a great year which jacks up the price even higher than it is now. Same for Crowell, now with the additions on defense, I am sure his numbers will go up.

I think you try and sign them both. I would much rather spend a little more money for players that you know what you are going to get then take a risk on a guy that might not fit your scheme.

good point
You're right, if Evans has a great season and we haven't signed him, he'll ask for a ton. You convinced me that I want him signed sooner rather than later. I also love Crowell and think he'll become a defensive leader. He's a keeper.

Love it!!
Trade for Shepard and sign him for 4yrs/30mill. We must resign Crowell and Evans. You don't win championships by letting your best players walk. This not only kills team morale but it ends any chemistry that the players have on the field. I would welcome Lito with open arms and let him, Mcgee and James duke it out in training camp.

On the other hand, I don't want the one year wonder in Thomas if we trade down. Get DRC or Kelly, someone who has elite size for their position. We are small everywhere in the defensive backfield and in the WR corps.

Just do the right thing OBD! (Modrak)

I am a huge Bills fan! Have been since I was 5! I miss the good old days with Marv, Bruce, Talley, Ballard, Hull, Reed, Lofton and Thurman!
