Remember, you heard it here first!
With their first pick in the 2009 draft, the Bills select - Safety from USC, Taylor Mays.
Measurements and highlights:
ht: 6'-4"
wt: 225
40: 4.25
In '05 coming out of high school he was named Parade All-American and the Gatorade Washington player of the year. He also ran track where he was a 2-time state 3A champion in both the 100 and 200 meters. Following his high school career, Mays was invited to play in the 2006 U.S.Army All-American Bowl.
He was the Pac-10's co-freshman of the year in '06
In '07 he was a Sporting News All-American , and SI Second team All-American.
He's a Junior this year, but is all but guaranteed to come out early. He has the size, speed, and ball skills to be an elite safety in the NFL.
I know this is extremely early but I was doing a little looking and wanted to find my early favorite. Feel free to comment on not only what you think of Mays and how you think he might help the Bills, but who you like and or what positions.

I think adding a safety is very beneficial to this team,
however, I want to see how guys like Whitner, Ko, and Wilson preform first. Wilson I think is going to be the suprise again this year. A natural ball hawk if you get what Im saying.

Does depend on Safety play
But also where we pick. This guy sounds like top 15 pick, but could also go late first where we would take him.
Next year, I will say we may go LB in the first, if we don’t sign Crowell, which we might not.

It seems unlikely to me
First off, there is no way that Mays runs a sub 4.3 time. For a 225 pound player, that is unheard of. He could run a 4.4 flat, which will be VERY impressive. If Mays can run that fast I think he is a top 10 prospect that won’t make it out of the top 15 picks.
Myron Rolle, the safety from Florida St., will probably be the second safety off the board and he could be an option too. 6-2, 215 pounds and he might run faster than Mays.
There are a bunch of potential second and third round options at safety next year. Nic Harris and Patrick Chung come to mind.
I really wish there was a mid-first round, super athletic TE this year, but unless you want the 225 pound Travis Beckham, there simply isn’t one of those guys available this year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills look at WRs like Darius Heyward-Bey and Percy Harvin
the Bills could consider another DE like Greg Hardy (Ole Miss) or Maurice Evans (Penn. St.) or Greg Middletion (Indiana) or Tim Jameson (Michigan)
Center Alex Mack from Cal would probably be a reach in the first round, but he is worth mentioning.
If Angelo Crowell leaves, the Bills could look at ILB like James Laurinaitis (Ohio St.), Ray Maulagula (USC) or Brian Cushing (USC).
There are a handful of first round caliber DTs, but I think Buffalo will look in a different direction.
I’ll take a stab at it and say Buffalo picks Percy Harvin from Florida. I’m 6.5% sure that it will happen.

Defensive End all the way
Next year, our DE’s will be one year older, with Denney/Kelsay being potential cuts, IMO. We need to get younger at the position, AND BETTER. Time to bring in a stud.
My guy is George Selvie from South Florida. He’s probably a top 10 pick, though, so I’ll go with Greg Middleton as a backup to Selvie. Both are stud pass rushers (see their 2007 stat lines).
I could see Safety (though I hope it’s not necessary), LB or Alex Mack depending on where we pick. A receiving TE in round 2/3 is also a probability if the position remains untouched….

I see you do not suffer from the same qualms as I do.
I agree about DE, just not ready to go there just yet.

Mays already did run a 4.25 at USC’s spring practices. (take that with a grain of salt)
Harvin is too injury prone.
I do like Middleton from Indiana. I’m not sure I’m ready to get back on the “DE in the first” bandwagon again so quickly.
Any one of those three LB’s you mentioned would be great picks.

I’d love to get a Mays or Rolle in the first round, but I have a feeling that Crowell won’t be resigned and we will look at LB’s. The three previously mentioned backers are all great picks. I could see Laurinaitis being a good Bill but I think Maulagula will be gone by the time Buffalo picks. Hopefully. All that said, I am a huge proponent of Mays and Rolle both.

Three more names to watch
Sireric, here are three offensive players to keep your eyes on this year.
1) Michael Crabtree WR 6’3” 210 lbs. 134 rec. 1,962 yds. 22 tds.
2) Dez Bryant WR 6’2” 210 lbs. 43 rec. 622 yds. 6 tds.
3) Brandon Pettigrew TE 6’6” 260 lbs. 35 rec. 540 yds. 4 tds.
Crabtree is a beast. He may not be there when the Bills pick in the 20’s. Pettigrew is the ideal stretch the middle of the field TE we were hoping to get this year. Dez Bryant will unseat Josh Reed as the slot receiver. I still have high hopes for Derek Fine and Stevie Johnson and would rather use draft picks on “BIG” guys.

Crabtree
Saying that Crabtree won’t be there at pick 20 is an understatement. If the draft were tomorrow, Crabtree wouldn’t be available after the first 3-5 picks. He is one of the early favorties to be taken #1 overall.
At this point, I think Pettigrew is the best TE prospect in the 09 class.

Beware the Bear
Bear Pascoe, TE from Fresno state. The kid will be a, well… Bear at the next level. He’s 6-5/265, and is a monster in the passing game. Fresno State is going to be loaded this year on offense and he’s going to be a big reason why.

Beckum
Travis Beckum isn’t a TE by any stretch of the imagination. He is listed at 6’4 and 223 pounds, which means he will probably measure in at 6’3 and 220 pounds at the end of the year. I mean Larry Fitzgerald weighs 226 pounds. TO weighs 218, Brandon Marshall weighs 230 and Colston is 231. All of those guys are as tall or taller than Beckham.
When you are smaller than wide receivers, you can’t be a tight end.
For Beckum to play any tight end at all he will have to add 20-25 pounds. Chris Cooley was considered too small to be an every-down TE in the league and had to prove he could make it at 249 pounds. Kellen Winslow has a couple inches and almost 30 pounds on Beckum. He just doesn’t have an NFL position. Even Dustin Keller weighs 20 pounds more than Beckum.

At 6'4"
If he reallyis that tall, and 225 lbs… he’s better off adding weight and playing LB. And Percy Harvin will likely be a top 10 pick.

If he stays healthy all year. I agree he’s a top 10 talent, be he has had some bumps. If he stays healthy and has the kind of year his talent is capable of, yes I see top 10.
Have any other names to toss in here Mr SEC.
