Sunday Football Vid: CB/KR Terrence McGee
You know what? It's Sunday. Sundays are football days, and it's been six months since I've watched a game of football that i cared about on a Sunday. The off-season continues to drag on - but we might be able to put an end to this whole "no football on Sunday" business.
So, folks, I hope you've come here to watch some football this morning. No, not a whole game; if I could make that happen, I would, but I can't. Instead, I'm going to use Sunday mornings for the remainder of the off-season to put up posts with Bills videos, so that we can actually watch some football over the weekend - even if it's just a highlight video. So on our first Sunday Football Vid festival, I bring to you kick returner extraordinaire Terrence McGee, courtesy of GoBuffalo2007 at YouTube (where else?).
Enjoy your Sunday, folks.

McGee has that extra gear
It is amazing how many times it looks like the defender has the angle on him, but he has the speed to beat the angle. That last return is just sick!!!

sick is right
That last run-back against the Saints was so sick, there were at least 5 or 6 defenders picking their jock straps up off the turf. Why wouldn’t we want him doing it some more this year? We got new corners, so let Terrence run baby run…

I still can't believe he didn't score
That would have been the greatest return for a TD that I’ve ever seen. So many sick moves, yet he just couldn’t finish it off in the end. That turd on the Saints had to just dive in the way didn’t he. If McGee wasn’t so tired he would have easily hurdled him for the TD…

Yes Im ready!
Hopefully though, McGee won’t be running kicks back that much. I know, he is one of the greatest around, but do we really need to worry about him getting injuried and missing time when we have 2 capable guys on the roster to run kicks back?

Why?
Who is as good as that? No one on the Bills as far as I see. Parrish? Yeah he’s good, but McGee has it for the kick returns. We’ll see, but if it isn’t like this, I would be very dissappointed
The Bills can win every game

Exactly
He’s been starting at CB for going on 5 years now and we haven’t had any issues with him getting injured on KR yet. There’s a MUCH higher chance he gets injured on D as it is. Why would we not keep our KR unit as one of the best in the league? And killa is correct, who exactly is as capable as McGee back there? Parrish? Doubt it. McKelvin? Maybe in time, but I’d rather stick with the guy who’s been one of the best in the league for 4 straight seasons.
Plus, we have pretty decent depth at CB anyways. McKelvin won’t be starting the season as a starter and Will James has a ton of experience as a starter. It’s not like the cupboard is bare like it was last year.

wow
that was well worth watching. I had forgotten how amazing that return against the Saints was. McGee has the perfect build and athleticism for kick returns. It will be nice to see him get a few less returns this year, but it will be strange watching someone other than McGee.
McGee had 45 KRs last year which was good for the 11th most in the league. He was also the only everydown player other than Ellis Hobbs (who had 35 returns) to return more than a handful of kicks. I would love to see the Bills get scored on a few less times and for the team to spell McGee with McKelvin, Parrish (who had 6 KRs last season) or whoever a few more times as well. Ideally McGee would return between 30-35 kicks.
Brian, I like this new sunday feature. It makes sense to watch football on sundays and it should be a nice simple way to help us all get through this NFL dead period that lasts until training camp starts. Can I recommend we stick with special teams next week and get a Roscoe vid up there?
After going over the return stats from last season again, I noticed a couple of interesting things about Parrish’s season. One thing was that he only had 27 punt returns. 1.5 returns per game for the best PR in the league is not enough. If the Bills new defense can step up, Roscoe could get an extra return a game which really makes him a weapon. The other thing I noticed was that he only had 2 fair catches last season. He fair caught less than 7% of punts. That was by far the best percentage in the league for players with 20 or more returns and who don’t suck. It makes his 16.3 ypr even more impressive. Compare Roscoes FC% with some of the leagues better punt returners like Ted Ginn (38.5%), Wes Welker (22%) and Josh Cribbs (25%) and you realize how special Parrish is. One would guess that a risk taker who avoids FCs like Roscoe would make some mistakes, but Parrish only fumbled once last season. Devin Hester, another fair catch avoider, fumbled 5 times last year.

Fair catching only 7%?
What about all the punts that went out of bounds or Parrish let bounce? Our D, when they actually did stop someone, didn’t exactly pin the opposition deep in their own end. I remember them forcing a ton of punts from around midfield. Of course Roscoe isn’t going to do much damage when the ball is sailing into the endzone for touchbacks. What we really need is for the D to force a bunch of quick 3 and outs this year. We need the Roscoe catching punts outside of our own 10-15 yard line so he can do his damage…

yup 6.9%
When Roscoe touched the ball on a return the whistle immediately blew less than 7% of the time. He had 27 returns and 2 FCs. Obviously balls that go out of bounds or for touchbacks are out of the control of the returner. I don’t have the data to be able to determine how often returners got stuck fair catching the ball around the 10 yard line and I don’t know how many times Roscoe or other guys let the ball go over their head, hoping for a touchback, but the ball was downed around the goaline. That could lead to the numbers being off by a bit, but considering the margin between Parrish and those other guys, it is easy to say that he just returns punts that other guys wouldn’t.

i love that guy
he is a physical specimen. Great vision, unreal work ethic and has an elite football body. If McKelvin brings this kind of excitment to kickoffs as well. I can only imagine how much “prime time” we will see if these 2 guys get their hands on some INT’s this season.

Saints run
The Saints run could be considered the best non scoring play in NFL history. Had he of scored, it would have been an easy finalist for POTY.

I remember...
...about that play. It was right before halftime, and he was returning the ball with no time left on the clock before the half was over. All of us were getting our shoes and stuff on ready to go play some ball at the half when we were suddenly interrupted by the return. By the end of the return we were all huddled about a foot away from the TV and screaming….and then he tripped. Ridiculous. We lost that game, and JP got pulled. I remember it like it was yesterday. Man, I’m pessimistic.
On a positive note, I love T-Mac.

Next Sunday
I want some defense. Anything with ANY Bill sacking Tom Brady would be sweet. (I haven’t seen that in a while.)
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Would the Mitchell sack from this year's SB suffice?

No
I want a player in a Bills uni standing over a fetal-positioned Brady.
