Bills sign OL Bell; release rookie Army FB Viti -Times Union
OT Demetrius Bell is the fourth of ten Bills rookies to sign the dotted line, following CB Reggie Corner, TE Derek Fine and CB Kennard Cox.
Viti, an undrafted rookie fullback who many (including yours truly) felt had an outside chance at making the final roster, didn't even make it to training camp. He was likely released due to the injury he sustained in mini-camp.

That's good
Bell will be ready to go and get his reps early on. He is still a major project but could really develop into a decent player based on his size and athleticism. I hope he gets the proper work and attention because we really need to develop some young linemen.
Oh well. Viti couldn’t cut it. Guess his size wasn’t going to allow him to truly take on LB’s, plus he’s been nicked up since he got here. Would have liked to have brought in an UDFA that actually had a shot at the team (Mike Cox was one). Good luck to Viti with the Army.

Bell signing is a good sign
I think Bell with 2-3 years on the PS and some situational playing in preseason the next couple of seasons could be a really athletic replacement for Walker when he finally losses his edge due to hauling all that weight around at his size.
To bad about Viti, I was hoping he would make the team so I would have an excuse to go buy his jersey. Best of luck Viti!
Fear the mighty helmet wearing gopher, he is coming for your soul....

FB
The allure of Viti wil be missed, but I am glad we are decisive in making cuts. We’ll see what Bell can do.
This town needs an enema!

Good luck in your future endeavors Mr. Viti - thanks for your service to the country.
Maybe they could bring him in later on the practice squad. Would be a great story. Who knows – maybe he could eventually evolve into a modern day Rocky Bleier?
So where are we at on FBs? Barnes and Evans? Whatever happened to the FA from Atlanta (I forget his name)? Did he sign with anyone?
I really like the Bell pick/signing. Granted, I also liked Terrence Pennington and Aaron Merz. But Butler seems to have worked out, right?
Let’s hope the kid puts on some weight. And let’s also hope he performs like his father on the field, and not off of it…

That fullback’s name was Corey McIntyre, and he signed a one-year deal worth just shy of $1 million to stay in Atlanta in mid April. He’ll be a free agent after the 2008 season.

Studesville likes Barnes
The last interview by CB seemed to indicate that Coach Studesville really likes Barnes, especially his toughness. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him line up next to Lynch every Sunday.
The Bills approach to Fullback has me a little concerned, frankly. They seem to throw the tight end and fullback position in the same pool, with the possible exception of Royal. They are two distinctly different positions. Wish they would coach them that way. I thought that’s what Schonert indicated he was going to do when he first got the job.
