The Buffalo special teams have been among the best in the league since head coach Dick Jauron took over in 2006. Jauron puts as much emphasis on this phase of the game as any coach in the league. The Bills field two dangerous returners in Roscoe Parrish and Terrence McGee, both of whom have impressive vision and instincts to hit a crease and have the speed to burn opposing coverage units.

Kind of disappointed here

I still think we should be #1 in this ranking.

The Bears get #1 because of Hester and Hester only. Their kicking game is decent as well I guess.

The Browns? Really? Josh Cribbs is nice and Dawson is a good kicker, but their punter stinks and they aren’t a great coverage unit.

We have a dynamite return duo, one of the best punters in the game, a kicker who’s gotten very consistent and dependable, and coverage units who are always some of the best in the league.

Don’t forget the Bengals ran one back against the Bills last year.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

One Play!

It was one play!! Other than that, our kickoff unit was stout and our punt coverage stouter!

I’m not disagreeing with you, just making sure you don’t forget that.

I'll take it

The national press (and the Buffalo News for that matter) can nail the Bills for years for not making the playoffs, but the quality of ST play is not in dispute by anyone. You’ve got to hand it to Bobby April and to Jauron. Dealing with continual roster turnover and the tendency of players and coaches to treat ST as the scrubs’ squad, they find players with the passion to play, and play well on the suicide squad. They found a Pro Bowl punter and a quality kicker. They’ve got dynamite returners, and in the past, gunners that nail the opposing returner before he gets three steps.

If you go to St. John Fisher, you will have the disorienting experience of watching 11-on-11 play when the horn sounds and most of the players walk to the sideline as Moorman or Lindell and company trot out to work on field goal protection or punt coverage. What? Wasn’t the offense just getting into a rhythm? Wasn’t Fewell just shouting at the defense? But you know what – It mimicks exactly what happens in a real game.

There’s a reason the Bills are good at Special Teams. They work on it.
