Jason Taylor....a Redskin....
Looks like we're about to see that happen.....For a 2nd round pick
This is very good news. Always good to have a player of his caliber out of the division, even if he was only planning on playing another season (or maybe two) and was going to be playing for a team that stinks.
I was also going to make a quick fanpost about the importance of hanging on to our extra bodies as long as possible this summer. A lot of people have talked about trading Youboty, Losman, releasing Josh Reed, etc. before/during camp. Well, the Skins made this trade in response to them losing 2 DE's on the first day of camp for the season today, including starter Phillip Daniels. Injuries happen, and in some cases, seem to occur in bunches. It is in the Bills' best interest to hang on to guys like Youboty, Preston, Jenkins, even Keith Ellison, even if they have plans to get rid of them at some point. So let's wait and see how the preseason progresses before we hear anymore of the Youboty sucks, cut him, trade him, feed him to polar bears, stick him in a barrel and throw him off the Falls, etc.
Bye Jason Taylor

I kind of have to laugh at Taylor’s expense here. He wanted to go to a contender and ends up on a team that couldn’t even beat us at home last year. That team will be lucky to sniff the playoff hunt with the SB Champion Giants, a top 5 Dallas team and an improved Philly team all better than them.

I think the move is good for the Skins and Phins
I mean, I see exactly why both teams made the move. The Skins need DE bodies, and Taylor is still a top 10 guy at drawing the offenses attention. The Phins need more bodies next year and 2nd round players are very very very useful, most will start and are also very cost effective for their position in the draft money wise vs. production.
This will probably be what causes Taylor to retire after this season. I think he will play it out to make sure he keeps a “Good guy” tag on himself before leaving for a very abbreviated career in Hollywood (hello sitcoms!).

One thing that puzzles me though
Taylor’s contract is pretty big if I remember, rotoworld.com reports it as a 6 yr. $45million contract that was signed in ‘04. If the Skins only have 8 million in cap space left, and they lose more people, how can they afford to keep replacing people? I mean if the contract is written to be backloaded, Jason must be costing 6-8 million a year now…..
The interesting thing about the whole issue is how much of a gamble Zorn took having a tougher camp than any by Gibbs in the past couple of seasons. If the Skins do bad, look for people to be calling for Zorn’s head for these early injuries, especially if anymore key pieces get injured.

Do the Dolphins have a single playmaker on defense now?
Wow. I don’t see how the Dolphins do not have a repeat of last year, I’m guessing a 2 to 3 win season. They have gotten worse since last year, not better. No Chris Chambers, no Jason Taylor, no Zach Thomas. Man…I can not think of one player on their defense you have to game plan around. Every team has at least one and with Taylor gone Edwards’ development will not be slowed by playing a top 5 DE twice and Jason Peters will absolutely dominate them in games.

Taylor/AFC East
I hate to admit it, but I think Miami did very well to get a 2nd and 6th rounder for Taylor. Miami is not a contender this year and to get that much value for a 33 year old player is a great job on their part. Obviously, they have a long way to go in turning around from 1-15, but I think they have a better plan outlined than the Jets, who seem delusional regarding how close they are to contending. Buffalo is probably two years ahead of Miami’s rebuilding project, but I think the Fish will be more of a thorn in our side than New York will be in the years to come as Buffalo attempts to challenge New England (You hear me, Dick? Quit cowering under your afghan. In fact, 10-11 wins this year or we’re the ones who will be “Cowher”-ing come January.)
Never forget 56-10. Revenge.

"that much value for a 33 year old player is a great job on their part"
I agree with that completely. They only mistake they made was not getting this before the 2008 draft. Obviously, the Redskins (is there a more politically incorrect name in pro sports?) DE injuries acted as a catalyst prior to this deal.

Good thing it's next year's picks...
I’d be more worried if Miami had managed to pick up draft picks this year. It would have been interesting if they could have traded for the Redskins’ 2008 picks. After all, Miami could probably use Devin Thomas and Colt Brennan.
It is possible for Taylor to still stay good after 33; Bruce Smith, Reggie White, and Chris Doleman all went to at least two Pro Bowls after 33, and they’re speed rushers like Taylor. In fact, White went to four more, up through age 37, and was named the Defensive Player of the Year that year.
Out of the past 20 Pro Bowls, 11 DE have been over 33: Trace Armstrong (age 35), Michael Strahan (34), William Fuller (34), Doleman (34, 36), Bruce (34, 35) and Reggie White (34, 35, 36, 37).

It's now official
I’m not scared of the Dolphin defense at all. (Not that it was scared that much before, just now it’s nil.)
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Taylor
We will probably never play Jason Taylor again. It will be in the 2011 season when we play the Skins again (unless we see them in the superbowl) so I will say this is a great thing for the Bills. This makes both games against the Fins easier this year and next year assuming the 2nd rounder does not become a rookie sensation. My opinion is it is critical that we go 3-1 but 4-0 is probably necessary against the Fins and Jets and this helps that.
I think the Skins could be a very good team w. Taylor. They made the playoffs last year and added some rookie passcatching playmakers to the offense. In addition, cambell should get better, Portis is in his prime, betts is a good backup, Cooley a good TE and the D will be respectable especially with Taylor. Big Q for the Skins is can Fletcher play well, and can they replace S. Taylor. The corners are solid. I dont think the fact we beat the Skins in Washington is indicative of their team due to their distractions.
I for one will be rooting for the SKins and Jason Taylor in 4 games when they play the Browns, Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals.

Thank you, Miami
for getting Jason Taylor out of our division. Wow, never though I’d be thanking the Dolphins…
Get the Bills back to the big game!

Taylor hasn't been a threat..
I don’t see it as that big of a deal. I see it as Miami being much better next year with the extra 2nd along with a high 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Peters has blanked Taylor the last 4 games.
GO BLUE!!!
