Questions about our 3rd Stringer....

Hi guys, I just signed up for Buffalo Rumblings today but I have been hooked to this site since it's beginnings.  For a girl, I know a lot about football but I do make mistakes so feel free to help me out if I get anything wrong.

Anyway, I watched the preseason game against the Skins on Saturday (thank you NFL Network) and from what I saw, Edwards was certainly pretty "shaky" and Losman stacked up pretty well in comparison.  I don't really put a lot of weight to these exhibition games though so I'm not going to start worrying...yet.  Actually, I was really looking to see how our other backups fared.  Just a question to you guys who have also seen the practices.....who do you think will end up with the 3rd stringer position?  I've heard some good things coming out of camp from both Hamdan and Baker, but I wanted to know your opinions.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Hard to say. Hamdan may have a better handle on the offense, but Baker mght throw the better ball. I think they will keep one on the practice squad and one as the 3rd stringer. My bet is Hamdan might get the nod again, but i will keep a close eye on it this thursday as I did not see anything in game to tell me different from what I saw at camp

The Bills CAN win every game

Welcome aboard FemaleFanatic85

I would say Hamden has a grip on the 3rd string spot. he seems comfortable in the offense and looks to make good decisions with he ball. with that being said I hope he never sees the field during the regular season, that would mean bad things for this team.

by gatornation on Aug 12, 2008 2:59 PM EDT reply actions

I think neither

Welcome!

Personally, I think we only keep 2 QB’s, with maybe Baker on the Practice Squad. I don’t envision Hamdan getting scooped up by another team if we release him, so if something does pop up where we need another QB, we could easily re-sign him. I think we are going to need the roster spot for another O-Lineman or a 6th WR or 6th CB.

Well the Bills will certainly keep 3 QBs around counting the practice squad. If Hamden gets cut, I think Baker is lock to make the practice squad.

Sadly....

this may be true. Peters and the Bills need to come to some sort of agreement soon. We need him now more than ever.

Wearing my Bills jersey to the Eagles-Bills game last year in Philly probably wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done. But then again, that's why they call me die-hard.

Thanks guys.

Yea I also wanted to look at them against the Steelers. I also thought I liked Baker a little more than Hamdan. And that’s an interesting theory Kurupt. And I think it might very well hold true. We just might benefit from having both Jenkins and Johnson on the roster for WR. Also, is the Bills-Steelers game televised anywhere else besides the Buffalo area? I live in Philly but I thought it would be a bigger deal since it’s the first game in Toronto…

2 QB's

We’ve kept 2 QB’s only, a number of times in recent memory, so it wouldn’t be anything abnormal. Having depth at CB and WR will also help our top notch special teams. I’d rather keep talents like Johnson and Youboty than a nobody like Hamdan or Baker, that’s for sure.

The Bills/Steelers game is on Fox Sports Pittsburgh. Not sure if you get that in Philly, but it’s on Directv channl 659. It’ll probably be blacked out outside of PA and WNY though…

Hamdan is cuter

especially with a ball cap on back to front and a clipboard, so he gets my vote. Also, he’s the world’s most popular Arab-American NFL player.

TV

game is on NFL network, but not until midnight thursday (friday am). probably just going to DVR it and rip thru it some time over the weekend. going to be hard to avoid the score/stats until after i watch it, pretty sad im going to avoid a preseason score, but i like to squeeze as much fresh action out of a football season as possible.

i hear you on the posting, it took me until the regular season last year to get fired up enough to post although i was tempted during 2007 draft. was real angry at the possibility of taking poz in the first, but was happy he was there to move up for in the second. going to be interesting to see how he/lynch/mcK/hardy and company develop this year.

Thanks

It’s funny because I’m probably gonna do the same thing…avoid the scores and then watch the game. And it is only preseason but it’s still football and that’s all that matters to me….people think I’m crazy for trying to watch the draft from start to finish.

Hey, it’s worth it though. I think it can actually be fun, especially when they zoom in on the face of a self-absorbed “hot shot” who thinks they’re getting a call but it doesn’t happen. Classic.

Welcome!

Welcome to the site, glad to see you joined the conversation (now if I could find more time lately to do the same!)

...and good choice on the college team!! (Gonna be a good season in Happy Valley this year, alla 2005!)

I would have to say Hamden. I can easily see them going two QBs, but with both QBs missing action because of injuries last year and Trent’s history of injuries throughout college and his short time in the pros, I think they keep three this year – unless injuries from other positions dictate otherwise.

Thanks!

I’m crossing my fingers to the PSU statement. And as for the QB thing, I guess we’ll just have to see how it plays out. I still think 2 with one on the PS.

Welcome Fanatic!

As I see it, I think the Bills keep Baker on PS, and release Hamden as per K. Right now all the teams across the league are doing OK QB depth wise except the Steeler’s and they just grabbed Byron Leftwich so that took care of any waiver worries for me there.

Knowing our FO, we’ll see Daunte Culpepper appear out of nowhere to start practice on Fri and both Baker and Hamden will be released and then we get to have a real mess on our hands. Do I think that could happen? No, but then again with the way my luck is running this week, I can’t rule it out entirely.

Pretty much everything

I bought a new car on Thursday last week, then the dealer couldn’t get it because the dealer who did have it lied and it wasn’t on the lot. Then the next car they tried to get me was sold, but that delear hadn’t marked it so in the internal database. Basically one thing after another there.

They decided this week at my apt. complex would be a good one to resurface and reline the entire parking lot, and they decided to go about it in the most backwards way possible, so for the 4 blocks surronding my complex its been a fight to get street parking as there are about 150 cars from my complex trying to find a place, and the company didn’t make any arrangements with local businesses to hold the overflow till this is done.

Finally, I ordered a baby shower gift for an artist friend of mine across country (www.misfile.com), Toy’s R Us claimed they had it in stock when I ordered, claimed it was getting ready to ship, then they canceled it on me. And they charged my CC, which is just really the icing on the cake.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, replaced my old Directtv stuff with a new DVR system, company claimed they sent a recovery kit for the old box, haven’t seen anything for 2 weeks now, then got a pissy phone call claiming I had received the kit and need to send it back before they charge me another 100 bucks. Ummmmm, and still no box to send it back in. Its just been a bad week on a lot of levels. Oh well, work can’t possibly be this bad tomorrow right?

ouch

I had a rough tough week patch myself about a month ago. The only good thing about it all pouring on at once is that you get your yearly does of crap over all at once and based on the balancing act that is the world you should be clear until January when its all over. At least your getting it out of the way before the Bills season. I would hate it if your luck cost us a game haha.

Question

Does anybody know what PS eligibility Hamdan and Baker have left right now? That may determine who stays and who goes.

Get the Bills back to the big game!

by Blitz on Aug 12, 2008 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

Hamdan has none

Baker has one more year of eligibilty

by kaisertown on Aug 12, 2008 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Youboty or Hamdan?

That’s easy, right? That’s an example of what it may come down to. If the front office kept a guy like Hamdan over Youboty, I will lose any respect I still have for them…..

~K

by Kurupt on Aug 12, 2008 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I get you

But you still have to have a third QB available somewhere, if only on the PS. Both JP and Trent were injured last year. No guarantee they couldn’t be hurt at the same time. As ugly as that would be, somebody, more like some body, has to plug that hole.
I still think Hamdan gets the vote for cuteness. He looks kind of tanned, relaxed and smiling out there on the sideline holding a clipboard with a ball cap on. You need a guy like that standing next to Jauron and Schonert. Balances that intensity thing the coaches always have going on.

by Defensewinsgames on Aug 12, 2008 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions

There are QBs all over the free agent wire, and better ones at that. Put whoever youcan on the PS, and if someone were to nab him (unlikely) pick from any of the other guys who are probably better and looking for a job

The Bills CAN win every game

by killascript on Aug 12, 2008 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

Youboty played well Saturday. He knows it’s do or die for him and I believe he has a lot of potential. Plus it’s good to have that depth. I say do what you suggested before and keep 2 QB’s and then one on the PS. We only had 2 last year for a while until Losman got hurt, didn’t we?
