Bills sign rookie OL Dickinson; release WR Jones - Albany Times Union
Could this transaction be tied to Jason Peters? The Bills have boosted their depth at OT, adding a fifth in Dustin Dickinson. He'll likely be a warm body the team uses in the final two pre-season games. Perhaps the Bills know something (negative) about Peters that we don't?

More likely insurance, I would think
Since two of the second- and third-string guys are dinged up and they need somebody other than the projected starters out there, especially for the final game, when all the first string guys basically stand and watch.
But I don’t think they’d be bringing in a rookie cast-off from another team this late if they thought Peters was anywhere close to making it back to WNY. It certainly took Parker long enough to get his other protege back to the Rams.
And I don’t like the tone of Chris Brown’s blog today. He sounds pessimistic about Peters return.

yes
Now that we have Dustin Dickinson I can relax. Who needs Jason Peters when you dusty diapers?

Probably more to due with Matt Murphy’s torn rotator cuff…

Matt Murphy had a torn rotator cuff last week, too. Duke Preston was playing right tackle! Something has changed, because they actually will have one more OT than they had against Pittsburgh…

I’m kinda surprised to see Jones get cut so early, I thought he had an outside shot at the practice squad.
Dickinson is a warm body for preseason, nothing more.
Peters will be back, I’m still confident.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

This signing isn’t about Peters. That doesn’t make sense from a logics standpoint.
If you assume these are facts:
a) The Bills knew Peters wasn’t going to be around to play against Pittsburg.
b) The Bills know Peters won’t be around to play agaisnt Indy.
c) Dickinson doesn’t have a prayer at making the final roster.
Then you have to come to the conclusion that nothing is different now then it was before the Pitt game and so it can’t be Peters related. If the Bills knew Peters wasn’t going to play against Pittsburg and they were still OK going with just the tackles on the roster, how would they be unwilling to play Indy with those same guys somehow related to Peters? The Bills are just making sure they have a guy they can throw into the game in the 4th quarter if another tackle or two get hurt.

Or to prevent one of the guys who will make the roster from getting hurt.

Maybe, but I think it is unlikely he takes a single snap this preseason if Estes bounces back healthy. He might see a series or two in the 4th quarter of the Lions game, but if everyone stays healthy against the Colts, he won’t see the field. He played all over the line during college and his best pro position isn’t tackle. He barely counts as a warm body.

He’s cold blooded?

Well I said he “barely counts”. So he does technically count as a warm blooded mammal. But he might as well not stretch and warm up any further than that cause he won’t get a chance to play.

If I’m assuming a and b are facts, kaiser, then why didn’t the Bills sign someone for the Steelers game? I don’t understand how one game is different from the other. The Bills would have had 2-3 days to get that new tackle ready for third or fourth line tackle duties; they didn’t do it, however. Now they get Estes back and sign a tackle. I don’t see how that adds up at all.

What if it doesn’t have anything to do with the game at all? It could be they just need an extra person in practice so the active tackles on the roster aren’t pulling double-duty by practicing with the first and second teams or second and third at the same time.
One other thing – since they were going to Canada for the Steelers game, any new player they signed would probably require a passport. Probably extra paperwork, as well – so it might have been easier just to wait until after the game to sign players.

Brian has a point
Something doesn’t add up. This might be much ado about nothing, but two facts are not in dispute: Peters ain’t here, and they’ve signed another tackle.
Stare real hard at those two items and you can’t help but come to the conclusion that Peters ain’t going to be here. At least not for awhile.
This issue is beginnng to feel like Marshawn’s traffic accident. I hope it resolves itself as quietly, and as well.
