Too early for this
New contract for Jauron?
Dick Jauron of the Bills is on the verge of getting a new contract.
Until this week, Jauron wasn't sure he had a future in Buffalo. Finally, the team began "substantive discussions" to extend Jauron's original three-year contract that expires at the end of the 2008 season, sources said.
The Bills got more aggressive in negotiations after the team opened the season with a victory over the Seattle Seahawks and with expectations rising that the team has potential to make the playoffs.

I think it is a little too early for this. I guess it could be motivational tool, although i don't think coaches at this level lack motivation, but regardless, Jauron is doing...a good start, and it seems strategy, staff choices, and production for Jauron are now working out well, but I still think too early for this talk.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

Clearly, what you think and what Mr. Wilson and Mr. Brandon think are two different things. They were going to extend Jauron all along, because they love the guy – but this quick start has them motivated to get a deal done faster. The sooner the better, in my book – his program is working. (And no, that doesn’t mean I’m riding the playoff bandwagon yet – one game at a time.)

have to say
they pretty much have to extend him. To not, would cause some turmoil for Jauron and his staff, with the “unknowing” of what will happen at the end of the year. He has built this team into a contending team, with a roster that is so much better than where it was in 2005. Give this managenement 2 more years and the roster talent will be legit enough talent wise to compete at the highest level. However how far they go is as far as Trent can take them.
Jauron deserves a new deal. It doesn’t mean he can’t be fired if this season still tanks or next year or whatever. But it honors him for his work so far and in the NFL to have a lame duck coach is unheard of unless the ownership blows ass “Chicago” or this is his last year.

I'm good
with the extension but I don’t think I’d go more than 2 years. Jauron has a team he can win with and now it’s his job to do just that. I think 2 years gives enough time for him to prove the naysayers wrong (hopefully!!).

not really
You can’t have a coach’s contract hanging over the team. As MARVelous said, he can still be fired at any time. If we keep winning, his contract will be earned.

And how different is this situation from our next opponent, the Raiders and the Al Davis/Kiffin situation. Talk about contrasts.

I'm In Favor of An Extension
Small market teams must have stability. The Bills are not ever going after the biggest name on the market so they have to have a low ego guy that’s happy in Buffalo and doesn’t need to be the highest paid guy in the NFL. Dick is not a perfect coach but he could be the perfect fit. Character matters and he’s got it. He’s also taken some tough stands with the team (Crowell) and it’s very important for players to know he’s going to be around. Good God, I’m tired of the coaching carousel.

I see this being right then
I was unaware that it was the last year of his contract, and I bet that because of that, it will be another 3 or a 4 year deal
The Bills CAN win every game

DJ is cool
Here’s a man who had and executed a plan. If any coach took over at this point, they would inherit a good young team. He’s done the work and I think it’s only fair that he reap the benefits (Tampa—dungy). I don’t think another 3 years is unreasonable. This would give him time to legitimately establish his program as a success or failure.
I think he’s done a great job and we could be looking at a very successful 5 year-ish run.

Give him a 10 year contract
I can’t say enough good things about this guy. Through unbelievable adversity last year or modest (and surprising) success in 2008, he keeps an even, tempered approach, not too high, not too low. Right now he’s preaching that this team has a chance to be good, but he’s not talking about winning the division or even playoffs. This team needs to keep working at it. Exactly right for a young team that could be prone to too much excitement and overconfidence heading to a game with the Raiders with a 2 and 0 record.
Jauron always seems to know the right thing to say. One of many very good qualities. We haven’t had a guy like this since Levy. Keep him here for 10 years.
