Can the Buffalo Bills make it four in a row to start off the 2008 regular season?  That's exactly what they'll attempt beginning in less than an hour, as the team prepares to take on the winless and reeling St. Louis Rams.

I honestly don't know what to expect today.  Will we see the Bills team that dominated the Seahawks - the same Seahawks that dismantled the Rams last week?  Or will we see the Bills team that needed fourth quarter heroics out of its young quarterback, Trent Edwards, to pull out a home win over the Oakland Raiders.  Time will tell, but one thing remains certain: this is a game the Buffalo Bills are supposed to win.  They need to get it done.

Looking for the best place to talk about the game as it happens?  Your search ends here.  Welcome to today's Open Game Thread.  We're looking forward to chatting with you.  If you don't have an account, create one here - and if you do, we hope to hear from you today.

That is all.  Take care of business, Buffalo.  GO BILLS.

Hope that the Bills

Get off to a better start and don’t turn over the ball. If so, We could see a 34-3 sorta game here. No Donnie Avery touchdown dance today, sorry.

If anyone thought Buffalo should have kept Will James...

…he’s been lit up by Matt Schaub all game long.

I’m not sure I see the logic of not activating Omon for the game. With only Lynch and Jackson active Buffalo can’t afford to have either one to get injured…

by Ron From NM on Sep 28, 2008 3:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

They could put whittle back there…

by karovda on Sep 28, 2008 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Omon has been inactive for the past two weeks as well.

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 3:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

guessing Whittle will be playing at FB. He’s been there in practice a little this past week.

by BuffCrunch on Sep 28, 2008 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He also did it at Minnesota, but he WON’T be the fullback full-time today.

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Schouman will block in that role, with Whittle taking short-yardage situations.

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thought about that too. Reed used to be a RB at LSU wasn’t he? That would be interesting…

by BuffCrunch on Sep 28, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, that would be interesting...

…to see him get swallowed up by a linebacker everytime a run is called.

by NJBillsfan on Sep 28, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If my memory serves me correctly… but I’ll check on it before I choke on my foot

by BuffCrunch on Sep 28, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Reed primarily played WR and on a few occasions they put him at RB. But, he’s a WR.

http://sportingcontrarian.wordpress.com/

by BeastMode on Sep 28, 2008 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’ll go with that Beast. He played RB his freshman year, that’s it.

by BuffCrunch on Sep 28, 2008 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What happens when our #2 receiver gets injured, then?

by karovda on Sep 28, 2008 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

James Hardy is our #2 receiver.

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, ok this point is moot. Reed WILL be in on a large number of plays, increasing his chance of injury.

by karovda on Sep 28, 2008 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Isn’t that true every week? I don’t think I’m following here. Reed isn’t playing RB.

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 3:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

haha, sorry for starting this mess Brian

I'm upset at national television (surprising).

The one week where Buffalo is playing at a time where only two other games are on, they get snubbed from the selection. Other than people on the west coast, who honestly wants to see Oakland vs. San Diego?

by NJBillsfan on Sep 28, 2008 3:48 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

other than us,

Who wants to watch the Bills beat the hell out of the Rams?

by Joe P. on Sep 28, 2008 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not the point.

National sports television does not approve of the Bills. I hope that changes after this year. It is nice to have two years of MNF back to back, though.

by NJBillsfan on Sep 28, 2008 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But

really who wants to see the Rams on national TV

Bills Fan in PA

by BILLS on Sep 28, 2008 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Worst team in football against a team that hasn't mattered in years.

Or a preseason Super Bowl contender (with one of the most marketable players) vs. their biggest rival. It’s an easy choice.

by twoeightnine on Sep 28, 2008 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think they’re snubbing the Bills… the Chargers are a more exciting team. That’s really all it is. As long as the Bills keep winning, who gives a flip? :)

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 3:54 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

DirecTV customers get to snub national television

I’m not sure if this is the week for the Fox doubleheader or the CBS doubleheader but it really doesn’t matter since I have the Sunday ticket. Gotta love that gamemix!

by Ron From NM on Sep 28, 2008 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have DirecTV

and CBS has Chargers-Raiders, FOX has Cowboys-Redskins. I really should look into Sunday Ticket.

by NJBillsfan on Sep 28, 2008 3:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sunday ticket, if all you watch is Bills game, is a bit of a rip-off. Nearly $20 per Bills game, and that cost only goes up if any games are on national TV or you can’t watch a couple games. NHL Center Ice is a much more economical package.

http://sportingcontrarian.wordpress.com/

by BeastMode on Sep 28, 2008 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

True, but if you watch the NFL in general

And primarily the Bills, its more than worth it. I have buddies out here from other chunks of the country so they come over and catch some of the other games since I have the Sunday Ticket. So to me thats worth it to watch a pile of games and to have a good time with my friends.

Thats okay, it just means Fewell needs to go to a nickel D

That way we have McKelvin, Greer or McGee shadowing Avery, whose the only real burner on their team.

If the Rams get something going here…it could be bad. If the Chiefs can beat the Broncos, we could figure out a way to lose this one. I’m not worried yet but I want a stop here.

Edwards off on several of his early throws again

Hardy got his feet tangled on that last one but might have had a shot at it if it was right there for him, Evans was led a tad too much and the first Hardy overthrow was horrible…

I totally believe the Bills are still in this game...

but let’s stop making excuses for Peters. Without that hold on the first drive, the whole character of this game is different. Chambers and Walker are still the better option. Peters simply needs more practice, and it’s his own fault.

by thefourwinds on Sep 28, 2008 4:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

but if that throw to Hardy is on target, the hold is irrelevant

you can’t blame one play for everything after it just because everything after it was worse than everything before it.

Beyond the Boxscore // Calling BJ Upton lazy is lazy.

The whole point of my comment

is that the game is more than just a series of individual plays. That’s why the Rams “believe” now. I’m not saying the Bills will lose. They’re getting great field position on most drives, and they have poise. My point was that the hold wiped out a huge run right down towards the goal line within the first two plays.

by TheSharp on Sep 28, 2008 5:32 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That was edwards' fault.

He should have recognized the overload and got rid of the ball.

that would have helped, but so would an o-line have

Agreed.

Though not much the O-line can do when there is 3 to block 5.

our run defense is just amazing…

Bad Half

The good news we trail only by eight and we get the ball in the second half. This team has been good in the second half every game so far.

by David Oleksy on Sep 28, 2008 5:34 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

go sit down and talk this over.......

amazingly…….the Bills are still only down by 8………….

Miss you Kotch......Love you Trent

Probably the best result so far...

…of the field position battle the Bills have been winning

by thefourwinds on Sep 28, 2008 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know, and we've shown the ability to make 2nd half adjustments

But my anger is more for the fact that we should even BE down 8 going into the 3rd. A great team, one that has playoff aspirations, needs to CRUSH these types of opponents, and NOT let them hang around.

Don’t forget how young this football team is… not sure who’s been saying that the Bills are a great team, but it hasn’t been me. Honestly, this is the Bills team I expected to see. We’ve still got a great shot at getting a W. This is just more adversity to learn from…

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 5:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

or an aggressive defense and a road game at a stadium with fans willing to cheer about the beer

by karovda on Sep 28, 2008 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Pretty sure that falls under the definition of adversity.

by Brian Galliford on Sep 28, 2008 5:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Self inflicted adversity, I can take adversity from the other team

Doing it to yourself is just plain sloppy

Adversity is adversity is adversity. They need to respond.

by chaosthepitbull on Sep 28, 2008 5:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Ok, the Rams are desperate and threw everything they had at the Bills. Buffalo basically did everything wrong and made tons of mistakes. And that only translated to a 14-6 game. Buffalo just needs to calm down, make some adjustments and come out to play in the 2nd half. They are still gonna win.

by fletcherjd on Sep 28, 2008 5:36 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

And its nice to see, but we should never have let them get away with all the crap they tossed at us

Good teams stop that S**T cold when it comes.

Peters and Fowler are killing this team right now

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

by sireric on Sep 28, 2008 5:37 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Just Pathetic

Edwards sucks as a first half QB….Peters ought to be barred from even going to Hawaii as a tourist….Fowler must have taken out a life insurance policy on Edwards
