Bills team not as good as we think
We have beaten teams that are combined 4-11. Not only that, 3 of those teams that account for the 4 wins are houston, st. louis and KC.
Had no offensive consistency against the worst defense in the NFL and largely no consistent offensive showings at all. Horrible offensive showing this past week.
Defensive cracks in the run game and on mis direction plays will show up in the next few weeks as were evident in the first half of this game.
Remember, this is a copy cat league, teams will watch the Rams tape and blitz the crap out of Edwards and then run screens and reverses on us.
Our record is paper thin, we could easily be staring at 1-3. This bills team has a TON of work ahead of them if they want to continue to win.
Most will say ra ra its the wins...and I do agree. Later in the season these teams will be much much better. We could easily stare a 4 or 5 game losing streak in the face soon.
Anyone else think the Cards are going to whip us? I do.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

1-3
we are not even close to being 1-3 you know why? Cuz we made the plays to be 4-0. Its a marathon. We had 4 games and we won all 4…what else could they do? There is no need to apologize for who we have played. The teams that are 1-3 will say they are 3 plays from being 3-1 or 4-0 but they aren’t. and you know why? Cuz they didn’t make those plays.
Football games are won on big plays and turnovers and we have had plenty of those this year in every game. ST TD’s, Defensive TD’s, game winning drives, game winning FG’s.
Get back to me after game 8 and we’ll see where we are at. No need to apologize for the schedule makers. We just play the games and have won all 4. Soon to be 5 on Sunday if the coaches get a game plan together that is sufficient.
MARVelous
Why should the bills be punished for other teams playing bad...........
If it wasnt for the Bills playing those teams they would be 4-7………..so….what……..just like the wonderful MARV said……its not the Bills fault for the schedule they were given……..The best thing the Bills can do is win the games that they are playing/have played….and so far…….only 3 other teams can say they’ve done as well as the Bills……and not lost a game……quit looking for reasons to be a DEBBIE DOWNER!!!!!
Miss you Kotch......Love you Trent

not trying to be a debbit downer!!
Just trying to put the wins in perspective and trying to be objective at the same time.
I agree that we can only play the schedule, but we have huge concerns in major areas (run offense) that we need to address before we can take on the likes of SD, Ten. etc…
We are currently a “good” team, in order to make and win the super bowl (the real objective, playoffs is not a goal, but a path to the goal) we will have to beat these better teams.
but put them in the correct perspective, maybe
we are 4-0, who cares how we got there? The past few years we were always talking about how we could be 10-6 or whatever if we made a few more plays. Well guess what? We’re starting to make those plays now and we’re winning games because of it. That’s what we need to look at, the fact that this young team is learning how to win game. They just need to learn to start games better and play more consistently, but learning to win is the toughest thing a young team can do….

wow
that shows no confidence in the bills dude. I can’t imagine myself being that negative about my team. Let me say something. Sure they havent been playing the greatest or the greatest teams but the difference between this team and last years bills is their ability to close games and play at the highest level when they need to. Look at some of the other “great” teams in the league. Denver lost to the Chiefs, Cowboys lost to the skins yesterday, Eagles lost to the bears, the jaguars almost lost to the texans who beat the Colts last week. No body knows which teams are the real deal yet and every team has flaws. want me to name some? The titans have a horribly lackluster offense. Denver has absolutely no defense. The cardinals have a frail quarterback and a terrible D. In my opinion every game on their schedule is a W. Have some faith
J2 - Oh Ye of Little Faith
And the Titans 4 wins are against Jax, MN, Hou and the Bungles – who are a combined 3-12. Are they a bad team too?
Please take note that unlike the coaching staffs of the previous 8 years, DJ’s braintrust has made adjustments to allow us to run when we needed to (see 1st drive 2nd Half) and throw with rollouts (21yds to Schouman) and Max Protect (39 yd TD to Evans) via adjustments.
I hope the Cards try to copy the Rams because we will screen, draw and rollout them to death. Anything that doesn’t kill one only makes one stronger.
It really doesn’t matter what you or I think, it is only what the 48 plaers in uniform on Sunday believe. And right now they believe that they can beat anybody, even if things aren’t going ok.
Were the Giants a bad team in 2007 because they got down to the 7-7 Bills 14-0 on the road last season? Hardly. Winning is all that matters, and nobody has more wins in the NFL right now than the Bills (and the Titans).

I didn’t even look at the Titans 4 wins, while MN is definately better than any of our opponents, that is good to know.
The reason for this post was to just put out there our issues as we are not close to a great team yet. We have a long way to go. Do i have faith as freddyjj says? definately not, probably because of past experiences with this team. However, to coin the phrase of my group of friends “Welcome the NEW Buffalo Bills”.
They still have a ton of work to do in KEY areas. So lets not get ahead of ourselves, after SD and the Jet’s game we will know where we stand.
come on J2
Those teams have poor records because we beat them into those records. Really we have an effective offense and a stout defense. A QB who makes great plays, a RB who fights for every yard, a solid D-Line, a talented secondary, tough LBs, and our offensive line will get better as the season goes on.
What makes the NFL a great league is that on any given Sunday any team, regardless of record can win. Remember the Ravens against the Pats last year? How about the Bungles and the Giants in overtime?
We’re scoring a lot of points and holding opponents to a few. Why do you think the Cardinals would whip us? The Jets demolished them in the first half, THE JETS. You are just being depressing despite the fact that we’re undefeated.
Why would you have more faith in the Cardinals who have some losses to bad competition than our own Bills? The Cardinals have only beaten the lowly Dolphins and 49ers and they’ve lost to the Jets and Redskins. The Bills have beaten the Jags, Seahawks, Raiders and Rams. So once again, it seems that your belief that the Cards will whip us is based on some strange psychological disorder that comes from many jaded seasons as a Buffalo fan than from any objective analysis.

as a bills fan
one of my favorite things about our team is its fans. we are some of the rowdiest most faithful and loyal fans in all of sports. i love seeing clips of people jumping, and bouncing around a packed ralph wilson stadium, with no shirts on in the middle of december. thats what makes the bills my favorite sports team. after waiting year, after year, after year…. the bills are finally figuring out exactly what it takes to circle the ‘ole wagons again, and it is down right disheartening to listen to afellow fan down play buffalo’s accomplishments to this point. some folks have the tendency to jump on the bandwagon, well i’ll tell ya right now i’ve always been on it. so J2 i suggest you just sit back and enjoy the ride because the bandwagon is finally rooling again. YEAH BILLS!!!
Soooo...
what’s your point? Last year the Bills were about 3 plays away from the playoffs at 7-9, easily could have been “staring at” 10-6. That team did not make those plays, this team does… I understand Bills fans being cynics, but a lot of your analysis is contrived. The copy-cat league bit, teams are going to watch tape to see what the Rams did to beat us… duh. And DJ is watching the same tape right now to correct those things. I don’t know if your girlfriend broke up with you or something, but who cares… THE BILLS ARE 4-0!
Did you even notice that the Rams ran 3-4 reverses after Avery’s? And none of them were very successful. So I hope you’re right and the Cardinals are stupid enough to try and copy the Rams, then they will lose 31-14 as well.
"I don't agree with a damn thing you say, but I would die for your right to say it."
Sort of agree with J2
Hate to say it, but we beat Seattle with no receiving corps, we beat Jacksonville with no O-line, and then Oakland and Seattle who we were “supposed” to kill it was tooth and nail the whole way. That being said, they are all NFL teams and a win is a win, and I like the Bills confidence and that they have found a way to win the games we used to always lose. I will just feel more comfortable when they play 60 minutes of BIlls football against a healthy and half way decent NFL team. I’m pumped about the season and excited to be 4-0 I just haven’t drank ALL the goofey juice.
sure but
Seattle played most of its game with Nate Burleson, a good and talented weapon
Those same O-Lineless Jags beat Peyton Manning and the Colts
As the Broncos found out by losing to KC, just because a team has a losing record doesn’t mean the game won’t be tough. We were a tough matchup for anyone last year. The good teams find ways to make plays in those close-intense games and we did.
Why are we all acting like the Bills won a three point game when we won 31-14? We should be happy to find out we have a coaching staff that makes half time adjustments and makes them well. Linehan was throwing every thing at us to keep his job and once we regrouped from the initial shock we smacked the Rams down.
Finally, I still can’t get over the idea that the Cardinals are going to whip us. They have proven a lot less than the Bills have by beating the 49ers and Dolphins.
McKelvin and Hardy - rookies of the year
agreed....
but dont’ you feel that they are on a (NIN reference) downward spiral? Do you feel that their play was elevated this past week from the previous week? I’m just guessing (like so many do) that our first loss will be to the Cards. They will put up 20+ pts, Edwards and co. should……but will they? the lack of consistency to date makes me think its 50/50. Ask denver how that works out

None of us is guaranteeing anything when it comes to the AZ game. I agree that it’s going to be a tough one. I appreciate the devil’s advocate POV, but really, there isn’t too much to be down on. 4-0 in the NFL is VERY hard to pull off.

if you already think the bills are going to lose before the game begins then you have a problem J2. This past weekend the cards got the tar beat out of them by a 38 year old QB and a jets team that lost to a bradyless patriots. I think the deciding factor the the game will be the Bill’s pass rush. If they get pressure on warner and get some sacks off then there will be turnovers. The cards D is very questionable also, any time u get 56 points rained down on you one has to speculate. PS there arguably best WR is out also. I’m very confident the bills got this.
maybe
and maybe not. but this is not a bills team of the past few years where you sit there and bite your nails. this is not the team that I think will find a way to lose week in week out……this is an exciting team with an extreme desire to win, so as a fan i am pressed to say they will.
this is my team. i root for them. not try to belittle them and toss em under the bus.
Under Jauron
The Bills have come out of the bye week, and most notably the second half of the season, making the right adjustments and then making a run at the playoffs. By compiling wins early, this gives the Bills the opportunity to reassess themselves and then make changes to improve on the second half and more difficult part of the schedule. Also, don’t think the Bills won’t also watch tape and adjust to other teams as well.
The Bills CAN win every game
re: improvements to the O-Line after the Bye
Dick Jauron knows how to make mid-season adjustments. Look at some Rumbling posts from last year before the bye; Brian G. had a nickname for Jason Peters, I think it was “once-a-game” as in once a game (before the bye), Peters had a bone-headed, drive-killing hold or false start or something. But the feeling was that the line just needed to jell and after the bye they did. (In all honestly I don’t even really remember when Jason Peters emerged as a pro-bowl caliber LT).
Let’s hope history repeats itself and Jauron & company gets them in mid-season form (which they are not yet) and get this team ready for a run into the play-offs. At 4-1 or better 5-0 they must seize this opportunity; there’s little reason for pessimism at this point, and they have one hell of a head start.
Beats 1 - 3 at this point of the season last year
Maybe they’re not world beaters, but it sure is nice to see them win the close games and beat the teams they’re supposed to beat…nice change from the previous 5 years or so.
Get the Bills back to the big game!
Harsh...
Just because we are untested doesn’t mean we aren’t “as good as we think”. I haven’t seen too many Bills fans guaranteeing a trip to the Super Bowl (or even the division) at this point so I am not sure that we have anything to settle down about. I don’t care if our opponents to this point are 0-16…we are 4-0 and that’s something to be excited about. Some of the teams that have been perennial powers in the AFC have vulnerabilities this year. An opportunistic team like Buffalo can take advantage of that. I am pretty happy and looking at our schedule it’s hard to envision a 4 or 5 game losing streak this year. We might as well take advantage of an easy schedule this year because last years didn’t do us any favors.
Why do you think the Cards are going to whip us? They are playing pretty sloppy…Kurt Warner is a turnover factory. I am not guaranteeing a win…but I don’t think anyone will be surprised if we are 5-0 at this time next week.
why not enjoy it?
I have to disagree with the tone you have taken in this post there has been no sign of us going on a 4 game losing streak. the buffalo bills are 4-0 for the first time in a very long time and this success has been overdue considering our faithful fan base… the Bills find themselves in the same situation the Sabres were in two years ago when they got off to a hot start and the whole city was very excited about it and many new fans jumped onto the bandwagon and honestly there is nothing wrong with that… what is the point of watching the games j2 if your just going to take a negative down we are finishing games strong and edwards has a great future ahead of him in his NFL career… our team has gained a large amount of national exposure on the NFL network and ESPN and this should make you happy our victories havent been perfect but we have finished games strong unlike the teams of recent years… so j2 if you are going to complain about a 4-0 team you might as well buy a tony romo jersey and root for dallas or some other team with a high number of big name players and impressive statistics because thats not what the 2008 buffalo bills are going to be will we beat the cardinals handily and have a bye week to prepare for san diego which will be a great test to see our team in action
Cards are favored by 1 and 1/2 points...
…and that’s after their disaster against Brettie and the Jets. How do you figure we beat them handily?
by Defensewinsgames on Sep 30, 2008 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions
While perhaps his tone was overly harsh, I do see J2s overall point. The teams we have beaten havent been very good, and we largely havent defeated them in a very convincing fashion.
I dont see any difference between looking at our schedules difficulty in this instance, and at other times when we have done it to other teams on the board. We frequently talked about how the Jets were ‘overrated’ before 2007 because of their ‘cupcake schedule’ in 2006. This is no different, and it gives us a realistic perspective for upcoming games.
Really
before the season I would have been very happy with a 3-2 start, thinking we would pick up a bunch of wins against Jets, Miami, SF,Cleveland and any other clods on our schedule to make the wild card game, and go further next year, but the way things are going it’s possible to go a little further this year.

Bills team not as good as we think
This is Bdot official L.V. (Logan Valley) representer reponding to the coment about the team not being that good. Everything has a starting point and you could clearly see this
(positive) change coming on last season. If you noticed the Bills lost alot of close games that they easily could have one and they nearly achieved these wins inspite of
having 17 players on injured reserved. The difference is now the young warriors have learned how to pull those close games out. It’s still a work in progress yes but you can
not deny there has been a maked improvement in this team. Learning how to win isn’t
easy and this team is now getting it so why not support and encourage them to continue to get better instead of criticizing what they’re not yet getting right. I’ve been a Bills fan for exactly 20 years now I’ve been through highs and lows yet it feels pretty good to say the Bills are undefeated after 4 weeks of play. Also don’t fall into the mind set of all of the analysts who praise teams like the “Cowboys or Colts” when they beat up on lesser teams but question us (The Bills) when we do the same. If the Bills truly make you wanna shout then support them, enjoy the ride, and pray they contiue to improve. One!!!
especially
and great point about the Colts and Cowboys being praised for beating up on lesser teams, it drives me nuts

It's just differences in people.
Some fans get pumped up by predicting big things to happen.
Some fans prepare for a victory by negating the negatives, and preparing for the weak spots.
No one’s a lesser fan or has poorer insight. It’s just difference in people.
That being said, winning teams and fans of winning teams EXPECT to win.
