Peters informed the Bills on Friday that he plans to end his summer-long holdout and report to the team Saturday, one day before Buffalo opens its season against Seattle. The team already has made the decision that Peters will not play Sunday against Seattle.

what did i tell ya!
He couldnt afford game fines and he was going to crumble eventually. Too bad we’ll lose him against the Hawks though, their pass rush (Kearney, Peterson) is brutal
McKelvin and Hardy - rookies of the year
Hope he is in shape...
That’s my biggest concern. It may be week 3 or 4 until Peters is 110% football fit, but I hope he at least plays week 2.
The Bills CAN win every game
better than not having him the whole year
I’d imagine he’s in shape. You can’t expect to get a new deal coming in fat and out of shape….
~K
Good then
I just want him here, and I have given up hope sort of, or at least came to terms without him being here. I guess thats another roster spot then
The Bills CAN win every game
Its not a roster spot yet. The Bills can still leave him on the roster exempt list as long as they want to.
not sure if that's true
he applied for reinstatement with the league. Once that’s granted, I think the Bills HAVE to take him off that list within the 2 game roster exemption timeframe. Could be wrong…

If we’d used a roster spot on Costanzo instead of Matt Murphy (who is going to be cut now with Peters returning), we wouldn’t have had to put Angelo Crowell on IR.
well, we'd have to cut someone then
Peters isn’t officially on the roster until he is reinstated from the Exempt list.
~K
Later for Crowell
We have or stud lineman back in the fold. Now if we get news that the Bills have reached an agreement with Lee Evans then…
I hope
we don’t pay him for this week’s game check — someone told me he had to show up at the beginning of the week (Monday) to get paid for the week. I think that amounts to about $700,000 in penalities and lost wages.
The Bills can leave him on the roster exempt list for the rest of the season if they want to. They are allowed to not pay him for the first three weeks of the season as long as they don’t move him to the active roster.
According to BB.com
he’s getting paid. Doesn’t count against the roster but as long as he reports before the game he gets a check.
The left tackle would begin sacrificing game checks had he not reported to the Bills prior to Sunday’s season opener.
From nflplayers.com (the union’s official site)
If a Club obtains a roster exemption for a player under contract who does not report to his Club until after the first roster reduction, the player will not be entitled to pre-season or regular season compensation until such exemption is removed
I was wrong about being able to keep him on exempt all year though. I read that part under the section for restricted players. As a veteran the Bills can only keep Peters on roster exempt for two weeks after he shows up. The Bills have every right to not pay Peters this week, although it is probably a good idea to give the man a paycheck and let him get to work.
So what changed?
Why hold out this long? It was apparent a long time ago to everyone that the Bills were not going to talk to Peters about a new contract until he reported. What a waste of time this has been for Peters. Are we going to forgive all the fines?
there is a GOD
finally some good news. Bring him in, get him up to speed and let’s win some games. This does wonders to the O-line and provides the depth they will need. And maybe it will be a good thing as Chambers and Walker got some new experience and are better equiped to handle any injuries during the season.
Now if only the Bills reversed the decision on Crowell
MARVelous
Thank you Jason for coming to your senses
Finally, some good news! I think the coaching staff is smart not to play him this week.
More bad news for the "Hawks. Their starting RT (Sean Locklear) is not expected to play Sunday.
Get the Bills back to the big game!
As Stupid As This Went Down, I'm Still Excited ...
Peters doesn’t have a contract but I’m sure he has a commitment. Without that commitment I think he would’ve stayed out and hoped for a trade eventually. A trade would’ve given us something, but a team could draft an OL first rounder year after year (and take on all the financial risk) and still not get an all pro like Peters.
This is from John Clayton’s write-up, and contrasts directly with what we’ve been hearing from the team. Who’s right?
Once Peters reports, talks are expected to start for a new contract. Peters, who has three years remaining on his contract, sat out the entire preseason, with the Bills refusing to reopen contract talks with him until he reported.
Could be
doesn’t mean anything will be done that. I’d expect the Bills to tell Peters to wait a bit before they start negotiating. Sometime during the season wouldn’t be a bad thing though. They should just tell him they’ll get him started once Evans is inked.
~K
Jason
is one of those players that does NOT like the preseason, me thinks. He should negotiate a clause in his new contract that lets him out of preseason games. He would be happier.
I fully expected the Bills to start negotiations as soon as he reported. If they did not, Peters would probably walk.
What an unpredictable, frustrating rollercoaster preseason! Now all we need is for DJ and Turk to have the mindset to CRUSH Seattle. No more prevent offense or defense please. Pile it on troops!!! We are ready!!! GO BILLS!!!!!
Agree
I didn’t agree with it for much of the offseason/preseason, but once it reached a point of no return, I applaud them for sticking to their guns. That’s good for the organization and future contracts. Hopefully, it’ll be good for Peters too, after he gets some games under his belt of course.

Hoooorrrraaaayyyy Peters!!!!.....
“Protecting the quaterback’s blind side since 2006”
I don’t care what gave…I’m just glad he’s back. I wonder if he heard about Crowell and was like “O isht!….these guys really are serious…..I better my @ss get back!”
Seriously though, this is great news. I am just curious to hear what exactly were Peter’s reasons for choosing to hold in such a seclusive manner, where he was, etc. Hopefully we’ll here more as the week goes. Although he is a notoriously quiet person, I hope we get some background info on the situation (from Peters) to end all of crazy theories we all have conjured up on the holdout.
Inquiring minds wanna know…..
Well, Schefter says the sides were talking since Monday, so I doubt Crowell has anything to do with it.
I bet Peters chose to be a recluse in this situation because he is indeed a quiet, secluded guy.
I doubt we’ll hear from Peters. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the dude talk or give an interview, one of the few Bills bigger players I can say that about (McCargo, Corner and Bryan Scott are probably the others). I did hear Keith Ellison for the first time today on BB.com though, so there is hope!!!
~K
I've only ever seen one statement from him.
When he made the Pro Bowl and started/almost started to cry when talking about McNally.
I was worried we had a Howard Hughes on the team
SO if next year he starts communicating with Parker only through a door with a flap to have food and other items put through we know something is up.
Fear the mighty helmet wearing gopher, he is coming for your soul....
One last thing....
I have to give props to Brandon and Co. I felt that they handled this situation correctly, and hopefully sent powerful word to our current players and maybe even the rest of the league.
I hope they stand firm and collect the fines already imposed on Peters, but I would not be upset if Jason had a new contract before the end of year. Now get ’er done with Lee and make me proud Russ!
Vic Carucci
Heard an interview with Carucci this evening. His take on the whole thing is that Parker thought he could strong-arm the new guy Brandon from the get-go, given the Bills need to sell seats and Peters representing their only All Pro. Carucci has known Parker for many years (Parker represented C. Bennett back in the day), and thinks that in this case Parker got taken to school, badly underestimating the Bill’s will not to talk until Peters showed up. he thinks a new deal will get done, and called it a “major win” for OBD.
Geronimo
I agree w/Vic then
They took Parker to the cleaners, unfortunately for Peters I suppose. Now that he has shown up, I would hope talks start up in the near future. OBD said that all along, so hopefully they’ll stick to it.
~K
thanks G
which is why so many of us supported the front office from the get go. It was so blatanly obvious that Parker and Peters were pushing a situation they couldn’t possibly win. I gained respect for the FO that they played it out and embarrassed Parker. What a moron.

Shuffle the line?
The Bills will know what kind of shape Peters is by tomorrow afternoon. If they don’t slap him on IR (Nyuck! Nyuck! Nyuck!) they’ll be able to judge whether he can play week 2. If he can, the arrangement of the line becomes an interesting question for week 1. I’d be sorely tempted to flip Walker and Chambers for this game. You can make the case that the continuity would be better leaving it as is since they’ve played a couple of preseaon games with the current alignment. I’m more interested in continuity going forward and would rather see Walker at RG this week.
welcome back Peters.

Two-week roster exemption for Peters
The NFL will grant the Bills a two-week roster exemption for Peters, meaning he won’t count against their 53-man limit while he works himself back into shape. Once the exemption expires, Peters will have to be activated and a player will have to be released to make room.
Hope he is ready when the Raiders come to town, but with a new offense, playbook etc, that might be hopeful thinking – especially if he is not in shape.
