New Look D, Nowhere but Up for the O

Watching Sunday's game was the most fun I've had as a Bills fan in a REALLY long time. Particularly because of Buffalo's new defensive scheme. The Bills have added the proverbial kitchen sink to their D, and it makes you wonder what took Perry Fewell so long to install a lot of their looks. I was hoping he would bring back "the creep" look (no down linemen) again. The blitzes were well timed and choreographed. The Bills played EVERYTHING from zone blitzes, to man, to cover-2, to the creep. I guess Fewell was waiting for the right personnel for this scheme because Stroud and Mitchell both played instrumental roles. I was really looking forward to seeing the new antics go against Brady, but Matt Cassel will have to do.

The offense sputtered early as Trent Edwards had obvious jitters, causing him rush his throws (his 1st 7 passes were UGLY). However, the execution was nice all day long. Third downs were a little infuriating as Edwards would check down for 3-4 yard gains, but I'll give the credit to Seattle's defense for now. And I love that 3 TE diamond formation (don't know the technical name) for power running. The only criticism I can offer to Turkey Schnizzle is more PLAY ACTION. There were many obvious running situations where the Bills obviously ran. They were perfect spots for play-action, especially on 3rd and short against a penetrating defense.

Next week I would look for some deep throws as the Jags love to blitz and play a lot of man. David Garrard is going to be lunch meat as well, look for some INTs and some fumbles.

Jason Peters is back, the sun is shining in Buffalo. Let's pray we stay healthy.

The wishbone package

That diamond package is typically called a wishbone package I believe, I couldn’t catch who was lining up there but I know Freddy Jackson and I assume Darion Barnes were two of the three backs. This would be another good oppurtunity to have a two back package with Jackson and Lynch. I liked this new look by Turk Schnizzle as much as I like his two RB wide, or many of the other sweet packages he’s bringing to the table. This is making me more and more excited because these packages are signs that Mr. Turk isn’t going to be predictable at all like god damn Fairchild was

Surprised...

at the poll results (and not just that McCain is beating the Messiah), but I figured it was almost a lock for him to start. Jason Peters with one leg and mononucleosis is better than Kirk Chambers.

And that wasn’t a wishbone, the wishbone is arranged a little differently, it’s arranged like… well, a wishbone. But until someone educates me, it’s a power diamond. The name of the damn thing is not really important, though.

One more thing I would like to see in the offense is the backs checking down in the middle of the field. Ahh, I’m just going to stop nit-picking… it was only the 1st frggin week!
