Jax starting Guards
Both of Jacksonville's starting guards are out. Could this be the year Buffalo's luck turns. First two games of schedule were tough teams and we are already catching positive breaks. Tutan Reyes is one of their backups, remember that project? Jacksonville is already playing without starting center Brad Meester. This game is playing right into our hands. I predict another blowout. I like the enthusiasm, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Jacksonville’s still got an excellent defense, and this is their home opener. They’re coming off a tough loss. With or without most of their line, this is still a tough, physical and well-coached football team with a smart quarterback. To automatically chalk this up as a win because they’re missing a couple of linemen is insane.
Nothing is automatic but...
…the Jags’ stock in trade is the run game. They’re going to be facing Stroud and Williams with 3 back ups at the interior line positions. As the run game falters the Jags will have to rely more on their passing game. Look for McCargo to get significant playing time, particularly on passing downs, because he brings a better pass rush than Williams. The Jags don’t have great receivers so I don’t see them scoring many points unless Buffalo turns the ball over.
For Buffalo’s part, Henderson will bend Fowler over and make him his woman. My guess is that Lynch ends the game with something like 60ish yards. The keys for Buffalo will be the WRs and special teams. If the WRs can contribute a pair of TDs and the special teams another 9-11 points (2 extra points and either a TD, a TD and FG or 3 FGs) Buffalo could start the season 2-0.
McCargo
I would be surprised to see McCargo dressed. He wasn’t for the first game and there is no reason to believe he will be for this game. Bobby April is getting his way with regards to dressing guys that can produce on special teams, even if that means taking the place of a backup (ie: dressing copeland bryan over McCargo)
On the other hand, it’s likely to be warm and humid in Jacksonville where we may need to use a 4 man DT rotation….
Bryan didn’t take McCargo’s spot, he took Chris Ellis’
~K
Chris Brown's blog stated Bryan replaced McCargo because of special teams play
if anything I believe they’ll play Ellis over McCargo. the DE’s fly up the field and move around more than the DT’s. Denney and Johnson can play both the DE and DT spots so they definitely have some options.
intensity
will be high for jacksonville, as a home opener, and a loss againt a rival last week.
buffalo will have to match that desire and need a big play. jacksonville doesn’t want to stare at an 0-2 hole. tough game.
fingers securley crossed!!
this should be an interesting game. with there O=line going down it gives stroud a chance to make management down there eat some crow and he won’t even have to line up against his old chums, just the replacements.
gerrard got sacked 6 or 7 times by tennessee, that alone bodes well as we should see the jags punting the ball to parish all day long!!
Jax’s defense will be jacked up but I think if we take care of the ball we should be good. keep there defense on the field and watch them wear down in the heat.
On defense, the Bills need to contain the running back tandem of Taylor and Jones-Drew. I think we are more adequately staffed this year to keep them under control. the wild-card in this is Gerrard’s ability to run. keeping him in the pocket and staying in the lanes will be key in containing his scrambles.
Kyle Williams, I believe, will have another strong game taking advantage of Jax interior replacements and Stroud will be doubled as usual.
im worried about Matt Jones
at 6’6, 218 lbs, and after a 6 catch 80 yard game, Matt Jones could very well be the biggest matchup problem for us this game. Jabari Greer at 5’11, 180 and Terrence McGee at 5’9 198 could get muscled around by the big guy. I think our run D should be fine against a depleted o-line, I just hope our secondary can play tough. If I’m not mistaken, its not just Matt Jones, the Jags size across the receiving corp
