Open Thread: NFL Divisional Playoffs, Day 2

Well, well, well.  Yesterday was fun, wasn't it?  You'll be hard-pressed to find another day of NFL playoff action in which two teams slug each other out until the final moments when a rookie quarterback leads a game-winning drive for the road team, and then a road team that no one expects to compete completely manhandles an NFL powerhouse.  That's exactly what happened yesterday when the Ravens beat the Titans 13-10 and the surprising Cardinals smoked the Panthers 33-13.  Two fun games to watch (at least until Jake Delhomme's interceptions got a little too Losman-esque to stomach).

It might get even better in today's matchups...

Philadelphia Eagles (10-6-1) at New York Giants (12-4)
1:00 PM EST, FOX
Giants coverage: Big Blue View
Eagles coverage: Bleeding Green Nation

- One home team in the divisional round has to win, right?  That may not even happen here, as the Eagles stole a game from the Giants at the Meadowlands just a few weeks ago.  These teams split their two games during the regular season, and obviously, this is one of the bigger rivalries in the entire league.  Both teams are aggressive and can make big plays, so regardless of the outcome, it should be a fun one to watch.  I'm going with the home team, though.

Prediction: GIANTS 27, EAGLES 20
Familiar faces: Eagles LS Jon Dorenbos.

Sd_medium   Pit_medium
San Diego Chargers (9-8) at Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)
4:45 PM EST, CBS
Steelers coverage: Behind the Steel Curtain
Chargers coverage: Bolts from the Blue

- Once again, we have a matchup of two teams that have faced each other already this season; the Steelers edged out the Chargers 11-10 in a home contest earlier this year.  As fun as the Chargers' win over the Colts last weekend was, I can't see how they come out of Pittsburgh with a win today, even with their new superstar, Darren Sproles, on fire.  Pittsburgh's defense is too tough and they make enough plays to win.  All we know for certain is this: whichever team pulls this out is hosting the AFC Championship Game, and they'd better fear their opponent when that time comes.

Prediction: STEELERS 20, CHARGERS 14
Familiar faces: None.

Here's something to laugh at me for...

On a, uh, “entertainment” website yesterday, I decided to take a three pick parlay. I took Tenn, the over in that game, and Car. Nice work…

Today, I choose to lose wth the Giants and the over, and Pitt and the over.

You can bet on porn sites? Oh wait… different kind of entertainment.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Eli? What the...

The Football Giants had a BAD passing effort. Eli had a great Super Bowl, but more times than not he plays poor football.

That Eagles win was SO predictable. Eli had his moment last year and has been rather questionable in big games this year….

doesn't

help when your coach doesn’t defer, and makes you take teh ball against the wind in the 1st quarter and you throw a pick on a PA rollout on your own 10. Take notice of the Dick Jauron in Tom Coughlin today. Tons of bonehead coaching moves by the Giants. Run with Eli on 4th and inches? When your RB is 265? Then on 4th and 2, and a long 2 you run with Jacobs? Dumb play calling if you ask me. Giants defense played more than well enough to win.

I still can’t believe the Cardinals are hosting a game to go to the Super Bowl. And with that crowd, those DE’s….that QB….its crazy……Going to be tough for Philly to score enough points up in there

Definitely look out for the Cards at home. I can’t believe it either.

The QB sneak and the Jacobs run were a good calls

Eli pussed out and the Eagles D-line was better than the Giants O-line. Yet another example of why we need a dominant Center. Jacobs missed the cut back for the easy 1st down. Giants Def was hurting. To many injuries.

Didn't help

that Eli played like the typical Eli today. The INT was a TERRIBLE throw, well over Hixon’s head.
