2009 NFL Draft: Early Entrants

Howdy folks,

Since the only fun thing to talk about when it comes to covering the Buffalo Bills is the NFL Draft, I figured it's about time to get a jump start on draft coverage here at Buffalo Rumblings.

The deadline for college underclassmen that are three years removed from high school graduation to declare their eligibility for the 2009 NFL Draft is this Thursday, January 15.  That, however, does not finalize their eligibility; any underclassmen that declares eligibility by Thursday but then changes his mind must withdraw his application by Sunday, January 18 - the date of the NFL's conference championship weekend.

I'm putting this list in a FanPost so that you all can "rec" it to keep it on the front page as long as possible as good reference material (not to mention it'll make it infinitely easier for me to update it as new declarations are made).  Without further ado, here are all of the draft-eligible college underclassmen I could find; if I missed any, feel free to berate me in the comments.  Just make sure to mention the guy I missed so I can add it to the list.

It will be fun to see who comes out on Thrusday this week, there will be ALOT more guys to sign up that day as the agents continue to push for Juniors to come out and get as much cash as they can before the CBA goes bye bye.

Now if only this gopher could play DE, we would be doing better, I mean, who couldn't play better than the corpse brothers Kelsay and Denney?

With the uncapped year looming, I wonder if it’s possible that the Bills would consider trading next year’s 1st round pick….I imagine it’ll be a bit harder and tedious to sign draft picks in an uncapped world, and with the talent in this year’s draft just getting deeper, it may actually make some sense to trade next year’s first for a late 1st/early 2nd this year. Maybe we’ll be able to get Everette Brown AND Alex Mack that way!!!!

Just a thought

I wouldn't trade the 2010 1st...

….but I’d seriously consider trading next year’s 2nd and this year’s 2nd to get back into the late first (2009) round.

Well said Kurupt

I thought about it today man. This maybe is a really good option consodering next yar cap issues, and this is deep class, qould be real good deal come back in the first round giving up future selections.

That really would help us bring the DE ( Everett Brow PLEASE) we hope and pray for, and an elite TE( Jermaine Gresham, in my opinion), maybe both of ours major concerns for next season. Or we could go for Mack in a late first, depends on FA period. If we did it once to bring Losman, why not to bring a player who can really help.

MAybe would be hard to find a team who want to make that trade, considering next year there won’t be cap, but, would they can say we are a 7-9 team with the same staff, that means a high pick!

Vely Intelesting

The 2010 draft won’t be nearly as deep. I keep running through scenarios on how to get both of them and this idea has real merit. Without a new CBA the 2010 draft may be whacky. I’m on board.

everything goes better with a BIG MACK

K – 2010 pick? you can’t trade the second pick in the draft ;)

We can worry about him next year then….If we can miraculously work on the lines this year, maybe a guy like that would be perfect next year.

And Rolle is going to Oxford, I know he isn't a Junior

But he would have gotten ALOT of attenion if he had declared for the draft.

Now if only this gopher could play DE, we would be doing better, I mean, who couldn't play better than the corpse brothers Kelsay and Denney?

by WABillsfan on Jan 13, 2009 5:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Rolle actually is a junior, eligibility wise. It only took him 5 semesters to graduate.

Another name to add that I’m sure will make Kurupt happy: Greg Hardy DE Ole Miss is entering the draft.

I really want to know

what you would do if the Bills traded back into the first round and took Everette Brown at #11 and Greg Hardy at #20. I think you would have to be hospitalized.

Kawika Mitchell is a leader. He will help this young team develop.

That’d be fun!

It’s called “taking one for the team”. Or, in the Bills’ case, taking two.

Selvie next year? That would fix DE for the long term…..

Hopefully the Bills won’t be drafting high enough to get Selvie next year.

2 first rounds with DE. Not a chance, considering the fact we draft one last year with our 3rd round. Maybe they will give to Chris Ellis one more year to show if he can be a bomm or a bust

Hakeem Nicks - Nice darkhorse

A good darkhorse at Wide Receiver is Hakeem Nicks, who will probably go in 2nd or 3rd round. This guy was an absolute beast this year for North Carolina. He is 6’1, 210lbs.

In 13 games, he had 68 receptions for 1,222 yards, and 12 Touchdowns. He is extremely tough after the catch and can take it the distance. Against West Virginia he had 217 yards receiving and 3 TD’s and also had 3 Td’s against Boston College. If he is there in the third round and it is between a tight end or receiver, Bills should get him. Still can get a tight end in 4-6 rounds. This would take some pressure off Lee Evans and Nicks is extremely good over the middle as well. Mel Kiper thinks he might turn out to be one of the top receiver’s to come out of this draft.

by BuffaloWhiner on Jan 14, 2009 8:56 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

We won't be taking a WR in the 2nd or 3rd.

Unless Dick really wants to lose his job.

by twoeightnine on Jan 14, 2009 1:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Why we would want to wast a pick with Nicks, if we could go after Terrell Owens ???? LOL

Just kidding, I don’t think they will draft WRs this years. Not with first day picks. It would declare for the world " Yes, We are idiots, and we wasted a pick with this guy Hard last year!

Whether you want a tight end or not, you should be disappointed. The more talent in a draft the better. :)

Or, Look at it this way

We were never going to draft a TE at #11 this year. If we fill enough holes, maybe we get him in the 2010 draft.

Bradford too...

That’s two guys who would have been gone or close to gone before we picked.

There are several expletives that come to mind when i see this and for several reasons.

The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

by sireric on Jan 14, 2009 6:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe it’s the best for Gresham and for the Bills. He could upgrade his game, and Bills can get him next year whith their number 11 pick !
For Bradford don’t change anything, in fac it’s better for him stay because he is only sophmore. Bradford staying is a good news for Sanchez, if he declares he will be second best in this draft, if he stays next year he will have Bradford, Mcoy, Tebow.

by hightower_mc on Jan 14, 2009 7:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Brian Hartline, WR from Ohio St. is going to enter the draft early. He had 90 catches for 1,449 yards and 13 touchdowns …… during his entire career. I guess he graduated early and thought he would give the pros a shot and if not.

Kentucky CB, Trevard Lindley is staying for his senior year.

by kaisertown on Jan 14, 2009 6:45 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It just scrolled across ESPN that Sanchez is leaving early too.

Sports illustrated Mock Draft

Don Banks figured we’d go TE
“The Bills have to get more potent on offense, as the final 10 games of their once-hopeful 2008 season painfully exhibited. For the longest time they’ve needed a tight end who can both make plays in the passing game and add enough of a blocking presence to justify his role in the lineup. Pettigrew has the perfect combination of those skills, and will offer a reliable underneath option for quarterback Trent Edwards.”
