Jon Gruden has been fired, im acutaly a bit surprsied. I dont know what this has anything to do with the Bills, but i respected the coach and his ability to fire up his team. He did well with the lowly Raiders and brought a Superbowl to Tampa, great coach. he wont be on the market for long

What do a lot of recently jobless coaches not have in common with Dick?

wow...
I love everything about Gruden with the exception of his offense. I HATE the WCO…He’s a great coach though…

I see it differently
I think Shanahan and Gruden were more hype and media sexiness. They are great football minds as are folks like Gilbride, Mularkey, etc. Shanahan had Elway in his prime as well as TD and Gruden inherited Dungy’s NFC championship team. Once the momentum was over these guys were exposed as ordinary.
One thing with both teams now that I think precipitated their firing is that the teams don’t seem to have direction. I simply don’t think you can overlook the job the Bill have done in building from scratch. There is a good young core and we see them getting better. There is a formula and plan.
I simply never buy the whole good bad coach thing because a lot depends on the players, talent and depth. We have talent, we don’t have depth. I think DJ is a good coach and will do well with this team. I think Fewell is good and is improving as a coordinator. I do think Schonert is good. Talent and experience often dictate how a game is called. I’ve seen enough non-Buffalo games from playoff teams and countless dumb calls from great minds. This is football. When a play works it is brilliant and when it doesn’t the coach is crazy. I recall seeing a Steve Young 4th and inches bootleg that went for a touchdown or something. If that play did not work, then the coach was crazy terrible, etc. When it did work, then coach played to win, etc. I did not see anything scheme-wise that prevented us from wining. We simply lost games because we turned the ball over with interceptions and fumbles.
Shanahan and Gruden were fired up guys who “motivated” their teams, etc, but we see that it ultimately came down to players, Elway and TD and the Dungy defense. Denny Green was one heck of a motivator and fired up guy who had success with the Vikings and the became a beer commercial with the Cards. Herm Edwards is a great fired up guy who overachieved with his Jets teams. The whole intensity thing is too over hyped. It ultimately means nothing.
One thing I find interesting is that while Broncos alumni were sympathetic to Shanahan and surprised, it doesn’t look like Gruden is inspiring much sympathy from his former players so far.

Morris is now the HC, he was just promoted up from DC
Well, that was fast, they promoted a VP to be the new GM, so at least it isn’t some crazy type of Browns thing.
My question is this though, who will be trimmed from the roster now that there is a new sherriff in town? This could have real implications come FA, just like Peppers asking out will too.
Now if only this gopher could play DE, we would be doing better, I mean, who couldn't play better than the corpse brothers Kelsay and Denney?

He wasn't the reason Tampa won, the team would've won without him
He has a great offensive mind but he’s a lousy coach. He is way to full of himself and players do not like playing for him. I think he lucked out in Tampa when they won the SB, that team would’ve won without him. It was Tony Dungy that won Tampa that SB not Gruden.

Dungy couldnt get em past the NFC Championship............
which is why he was fired……plus if you think about it…….the Raiders made the superbowl that year too (the team that Gruden left) so…..Gruden was doing something right either way.

Maybe, I did say that he was a good offensive mind but I still don’t like him and wouldn’t want him, way too much of an ego.

There is a lot that I dislike of Jauron. I think that Gruden is a much better strategist and a much better game day coach but I would prefer getting a long term guy and Gruden isn’t it. When a coach is disliked by his players that much it really is tough to get the most out of your players and our guys are not superstars to start with so we need good chemistry and a heck of a lot of very hard work. Plus, Gruden is a West Coast passing guy and I like power running with play-action which is really not his ammo.

Gruden didnt exactly have Lynch and Jackson on his teams either......
ALL his RB’s kept getting hurt……its hard to keep a balanced power running game when you’re working with 4th and 5th string guys all the time……..when he a healthy Cadillac Williams he pounded the heck outta the ball…….a coach can only work with what he has..

Gruden is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Jauron
Someone in the middle would be nice.

You have a point there.
But I still don’t like him. He is a divisive coach that players hate. Look at the fiasco with Keyshawn a few years ago. Keyshawn was one of the reason why they won that SB, I do not think that they could have made it there without him. I do not know what the problem was exactly but they sure as hell could not work together. And I can’t see how someone could blame Keyshawn because he gets along fine with “hard-nosed” Parcells. He did his job admirably in Carolina also. There is no denying Keyshawn’s ego but I guess Gruden wanted all the spotlight for himself. Then there’s the way he has mis-handled the whole Jeff Garcia issue… I just don’t like the guy, he is too self centered and players don’t like playing for him and I would not want that in Buffalo.
Your ability to control the LOS is directly linked to your ability to win football games!
