FanPost

Are we better now than Jauron's first season?

This post started as a response to Kurupt in another fanpost but it got way too long-winded.  Let's compare it up and down across the board.  Is the team we had going into 2008 better than the team Jauron fielded in 2006, his first with the Bills?

Offense

QB position: Holcomb/Losman QB Battle vs. Trent Edwards
Advantage: 2008

RB: Willis McGahee and Anthony Thomas vs. Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson
Advantage: 2008 - Jackson clearly out-performs Thomas

FB: no FB in 2006 vs. Darien Barnes and Corey McIntyre
Advantage: Push

WR: Lee Evans, Peerless Price, Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed vs. Lee Evans, James Hardy, Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed
Advantage: Push

TE: Robert Royal, Kevin Everett vs. Robert Royal, The Dereks
Advantage: Push

Offensive Line: Here's a quote from thehuddle.com on the 2006 Bills line:
[Newly signed] Aaron Gibson will back up the Bills' best offensive lineman in RT Jason Peters. Left tackle appears to be set with Mike Gandy, and Buffalo's other free agent acquisition was former Panther G Tutan Reyes. Reyes will compete with veteran Bennie Anderson and second-year player Duke Preston for the starting left guard spot.

LT: Mike Gandy vs. Jason Peters
Advantage: 2008

LG: Tutan Reyes vs. Derrick Dockery
Advantage: 2008

C: Melvin Fowler vs. Melvin Fowler
Advantage: Push

RG: Chris Villarial vs. Brad Butler
Advantage: 2008

RT: Jason Peters vs. Langston Walker
Advantage: 2006

Defense

DT: Tim Anderson, Larry Triplett, John McCargo vs. Marcus Stroud, Kyle Williams, Spencer Johnson
Advantage: 2008

DE: Schobel, Kelsay, Denney vs. Schoberl, Kelsay, Denney
Advantage: Push

MLB: London Fletcher vs. Paul Posluzny
Advantage: 2006

OLB: Angelo Crowell, Takeo Spikes (post ACL surgery) vs. Angelo Crowell, Kawika Mitchell
Advantage: 2008

CB: Nate Celments, Terrence McGee, Asthon Youbouty, Jabari Greer vs. Terrence McGee, Jabari Greer, Ashton Youboty, Leodis McKelvin
Advantage: 2006

FS: Troy Vincent/Ko Simpson vs. Ko Simpson/Bryan Scott
Advantage: 2006

SS: Donte Whitner vs. Donte Whitner
Advantage: Push

Specialists

Kickers: Brian Moorman, Rian Lindell vs. Brian Moorman and Rian Lindell
Advantage: Push

Returners: Terrence McGee and Roscoe Parrish vs. Leodis McKelvin and Roscoe Parrish
Advantage: 2008

Results

2008 position wins: 8
2006 position wins: 4
Pushes: 6

Even with the few battles you could argue both ways, the 2008 Buffalo Bills were better than the 2006 Buffalo Bills even though their records were identical 7-9 seasons.

I would love to hear arguments from Kurupt or anyone else that the Bills now aren't better than those Bills.  Look no further than the needs addressed on the offensive line and defensive lines since then.  So many people have been blasting the front office for not building the lines because football is won in the trenches.  Look at this list and tell me they haven't addressed it - even if it all didn't work out well.

To get the 2006 roster information I went to this website and used what I remembered to fill in some blanks.  Here's the 2008 Bills roster but remember if they are on IR now, they aren't on the active roster.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.
