Our New FB/3rd RB should be.....

Jorvorskie Lane. This kid is an absolute beast. Since I'm not really into college ball, I never heard of the guy, but I aslo don't recall seeing his name thrown around on Rumblings either. Looks like we could kill 2 birds with one stone with a late pick or sign him as an UDFA. Hell, he might even challenge Hmadam as our 3rd QB! (j/k)

01/13/09 - East-West Shrine Monday practice: Jorvorski Lane, A&M's 290 pound fullback actually showed soft hands today, as well as the ability to pound defenders while carrying the ball. - Chad Reuter, The SportsXchange, NFL Draft Scout

12/19/08 - East-West Shrine Invite: Former Lufkin Panther Jorvorskie Lane and Texas A&M fullback Jorvorskie Lane will get one more shot to impress NFL scouts. Lane, who only ran the ball 35 times for 93 yards and five touchdowns this season, has been invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium Jan. 17, 2009. The 84th annual contest is set for a 3 p.m. start and will be televised on ESPN2. Lane was moved to fullback fulltime this season after new head coach Mike Sherman took over. Lane and the Aggies did not have much success in Sherman's first season, going 4-8, with a pair of three-game losing streaks. Lane had a productive junior season, rushing 169 times for 780 yards (4.6 average), and scored a Big 12-leading 16 rushing touchdowns. - The Lufkin Daily News

12/03/08 - 2008 ALL-BIG 12 FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM: FB Jorvorskie Lane Texas A&M Sr. Lufkin, Texas/Lufkin, has been selected All-Big 12 Conference Second Team for the 2008 college football season by the Big 12 coaches. Senior Jorvorskie Lane (Lufkin, Texas/Lufkin HS) earned second-team honors at fullback after shifting to the position for his final A&M season. Lane served as the lead blocker for leading ground-gainers Mike Goodson and Cyrus Gray, and contributed five touchdowns as a short yardage back. Lane finished his career as the top non-placekicker scorer in school history with 302 career points. He also set school standards with 50 total touchdowns and 49 rushing touchdowns. In 2005, Lane scored 19 touchdowns which matched Joel Hunt's 78-year old record for season touchdowns at A&M. - Texas A&M football

Like I said, I don't know much about the guy, and apparently he might have some weight control issues. I'm curious to hear what you guys may know about him or what your opinions of him are.

Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

No thank you. Either give me a FB that can block or give me nothing. I don’t want this FB that wants to be a RB, especially one that is a freakin’ house and a crybaby….

!00% agree with you

Quinn Johnson, is a true fullback! A converted linebacker, he loves the physical contact and he loves hitting people. This kid sounds like he’s well grounded and is a great team player! Check out this interview

Liked his stats when at Tailback, bot on closer examination - PASS

Can’t block, weighs 295 and showed nothing at Shrine by getting stuffed 3 successive plays

I put

Jorvorskie Lane as the 5th round pick in my mock draft I posted here. I really like him as a fullback. I think he would be great for our offense in developing a smash mouth game especially if we draft Mack. He is 290 pounds and is 6’0. Lane has 50 touchdowns which means he’ll be a great goal line back. We would be so dangerous inside the 5 if teams had to watch out for a 290 fullback and Marshawn coming out of the backfield. Plus, he will be able to use his huge frame to clear some nice running lanes again, especially behind Mack. One more awesome plus is that not only is he 290 pounds but he runs a 4.7 40. That means whether he’s running into the endzone at the 3 or clearing a lane at the 35, he’s going to hit defenders with a ton of force. I would love Lane on the Bills.

Kawika Mitchell is a leader. He will help this young team develop.

Poz, hold on

The speed ratings and majority of his TDs and yds in collge were when he was at TB and weighed 260-270 lbs.

He got ripped up on his performance in the Shrine game and per the guys at Sirius does not have the speed any more at 290 lbs to hit the hole at the NFL level.

He needs to rededicate himself and drop 25 lbs and get back to the 4.7 speed before the combine.

and he is not a good lead blocker per TRok on Sirius NFLRadio

ah

didn’t realize he was clocked at 4.7 when he was at 260-270. That changes things a bit. I realize his touchdowns were when he was at tailback but it doesn’t take away from the fact that he knows how to run and at 290, with his skills running the ball, he would be a heck of a goalline back. Good point about the 4.7 time though. I didn’t realize that. In regards to his lead blocking, with a frame as large as his I think he could be coached into being a fantastic fullback. That said. I would be just as happy with Quinn Johnson who is a great blocker and maybe the happiest with Fiammetta who can do everything well in terms of running, blocking , and catching. He would make our backfield even more versatile.

I still say go with Johnson out of LSU or Fiammetta out of SU as our FB

In the late 5th, early 6th rounds and look for a UDFA scat back for our 3rd RB, we really need a change up back from the Omon, Lynch, Freddy between the tackles runner type. We need someone who can catch the screen and just boogie up field ala Darren Sproles.

I told the witch doctor that I was in love with the Buffalo Bills, and instead of telling me to say "Oh eeh oh oh ah, ting tang walla walla wing bang" in order to make me feel better he told me to buy a gun and end it.

After seeing Quinn Johnson in the senior bowl

I am convinced that we might need to take him in the 5th round. He was impressive as a massive lead blocker as well as receiving skills, his YACS were impressive he is one mean FB!
