HUGE free agent signings.
Via text.
The Bills have signed C Marvin Philip and WR P.K. Sam. Sam spent the 2008 season in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts.
That's the cannonball we were looking for right? I hope that they didn't get Philip confuse with Mack. Mack was his back-up for a year. Sam's been an injury prone WR who was drafted by the Pats and earned a ring with them despite never playing a down.

if nothing else their trying to address areas of need. Which C and WR#2 definately are. this more than likely doesn’t mean squat – but it does let the others at the positions know they are looking to upgrade.
anyone have any additional info about these 2? other than what bb.com has

He wasnt a bad center in college
College: During his collegiate career at California, led the team in key blocks/knockdowns in each of his last two years, earning All-American recognition twice…Was twice a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s premier center…In 2005, named All-American first-team selection by the Associated Press, earning third-team honors from The NFL Draft Report…All-Pac 10 Conference first-team choice…Finalist for the Rimington Trophy, given to the best center in college football…Named team MVP…Started every game at center, helping the offense rank ninth in the nation in rushing, averaging 235.25 yards per game…Rated the best center in college football by The Sporting News…Posted a team-high 57 key blocks/knockdowns…In 2004, earned All-American honors from Sports Illustrated…All-Pac 10 Conference first-team choice…One of seven finalists for the Rimington Trophy…Recipient of the Brick Muller Award as Cal’s Most Valuable Offensive Lineman…Led the team with 66 key blocks/knockdowns, paving the way for a team that ranked fifth in the nation in total offense (492.42 ypg), sixth in rushing (256.75 ypg) and seventh in scoring (36.75 ppg)…In 2003, name the Bob Tessier Award as the team’s most improved offensive lineman…After serving as Nolan Bluntzer’s understudy at center for the first nine games, Philip reclaimed the starting job he held as a freshman before leaving on his mission, after Bluntzer suffered an ankle sprain, staring the final three contests…Led all Cal linemen in pancake blocks and knockdowns during the season (47)…In 2001-02 seasons, served on a Mormon church mission…In 2000, started several games as a true freshman, gained his first starting assignment just three games into his career at Fresno State.
Maybe this is a sign. Maybe he becomes our back up to whomever we draft. Do you sign a vet to back up a vet? At least OBD has heard our cries…

I like the signing of Philip for two reasons
1.) He played and blocked for Marshawn, I think this indicates the front office has plans to potentially give the kid a shot at competing for a job.
2.) He has a connection to Mack so it could be a way for preparing for Mack’s selection in the draft by giving him a familiar mentor
Kawika Mitchell is a leader. He will help this young team develop.

Huh?
1.) He played and blocked for Marshawn, I think this indicates the front office has plans to potentially give the kid a shot at competing for a job.
So did Aaron Merz. I don’t see him starting at Guard for us. This is ridiculous, Poz. You don’t bring in some castoff, that’s never even played an NFL game, to fight for a starting spot on the OL simply because he blocked for the starting RB in college.
2.) He has a connection to Mack so it could be a way for preparing for Mack’s selection in the draft by giving him a familiar mentor
Come on, you’re really grasping at straws here. I’m sure OBD is bringing in some NFL nomad to be a mentor for a 1st round pick that we haven’t even drafted simply because they both played the same position in college. What would this guy mentor Mack in? How to bounce around the NFL?

haha yes
I am certainly grasping at straws my friend. But when you are on the center bandwagon straws is really all we got. So many signs point away from Alex Mack. Then again, you’ve been pushing for DE for the past two off-seasons, with all signs pointing to that being the pick and it hasn’t happened. Maybe not having signs pointing to center is a good thing?
In regards to Merz, we have competent guards so he wouldn’t stand a chance. On our team, with our centers, I would put Philip’s chances at significantly higher if he’s competing against Fowler and Preston. Well maybe not….

Ummm, does anyone else notice something?
We just signed Phillip, and NO ONE has said anything at OBD about resinging Preston or Fowler at this point so far. I think this means we are either getting a new C in FA or the draft, and this dude was brought in to move Preston or Fowler along out of the building. For that alone I consider it a good move. Also, while playing in the CFL might not be playing in the NFL, it IS a step up from BCS football, and does anyone else forget who has come from there in recent years, who here back in the late 90s early 00s wouldn’t have wanted Jeff Garcia, he was a CFLer!
I told the witch doctor that I was in love with the Buffalo Bills, and instead of telling me to say "Oh eeh oh oh ah, ting tang walla walla wing bang" in order to make me feel better he told me to buy a gun and end it.

I’m a fan of both the CFL and the NFL and let me tell you that when healthy sam is an EXCELLENT deep threat. in 6 games with the argos this year he caught about 45 pass for 500 yards.
