History of Tight Ends in the Draft

With all the talk about taking Pettigrew as a Tight End, I would prefer the Bills address other positions. Like they all say, you win from the inside out and win in the trenches. The defensive line is more or a priority than Tight End, but granted Pettigrew is a talent. But I decided to look at past drafts and tight ends that were taken. It does look like for the most part, if you want a good tight end you better get him in the first round. And best bargain of this tight end analysis was A.J. Smith signing Antonio Gates as a FREE AGENT for the Chargers out of Kent State. Another free agent standout is James Harrison, also from Kent State. Maybe Bills should start scouting Kent State games?

2008 -Dustin Keller in first round, but John Carlson in 2nd round with Fred Davis.

2007-Greg Olsen in first round, but fifth round bargains in Brent Celek, Kevin Boss, Dante Rosario.

2006-Vernon Davis is round one with Marcedes Lewis - Ouch! Owen Daniels, best of the lot, drafted in round four.

2005 -Heath Miller taken in first round.

2004 -Kellen Winslow and Ben Watson taken in first round.

2003 -Dallas Clark taken in round one and Jason Whitten in 3rd round.

2002 -Shockey and Dan Graham and Jerramy Stevens in round one.

2001 -Todd Heap and Alge Crumpler in round one

2000 -Bubba Franks in round one with Anthony Becht
