Does Andre Reed belong in the Hall of Fame?
Normally I would post this as a fanshot, but I have some stuff to editorialize about it so I made a fanpost. Here's the story from Tim Graham:
Is Andre Reed good enough for Canton?

It's time for the annual debate: Does Andre Reed belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
Rick Stewart/Getty Images Andre Reed was a key component in the Buffalo Bills' run to four straight Super Bowls. The Hall of Fame announced 17 finalists for induction this year, and Reed was among four with AFC East ties. He was joined by two other Buffalo Bills, defensive end Bruce Smith and owner Ralph Wilson, and Miami Dolphins guard Bob Kuechenberg.
Smith is a lock to get in. He might be the greatest No. 1 draft choice of all-time and retired with an NFL record 200 sacks.
This probably wouldn't an appropriate year for Wilson to get inducted. Given all the ire generated by selling games to Toronto and deciding to keep head coach Dick Jauron around, the throngs of Bills fans who'd drive down to honor Smith probably would boo Wilson when he stepped to the lectern.
Kuechenberg is an eight-time finalist and getting crotchety about it. Reed has been ornery for years, and this is only his third year as a finalist.
Reed is a lightning rod for Hall of Fame debate.
He retired with the requisite stats, but as NFL offenses have evolved into highly efficient passing systems, what Reed accomplished becomes less and less impressive as time goes by.
Jim Kelly's favorite target during the Buffalo Bills' run to four straight Super Bowls finished with 951 receptions for 13,198 yards and 87 touchdowns. Reed was named to seven Pro Bowls.
When Reed retired he ranked third in all-time receptions behind only Jerry Rice and Cris Carter.
Eight years later, Reed has dropped to sixth on the list with a total that doesn't look nearly as impressive. Offenses have changed too much. Larry Centers had more catches than Steve Largent. (ed. note - YOU CAN"T BE SERIOUS!!!!) Reed, who will be surpassed by tight end Tony Gonzalez next year, has 68 more catches than Keenan McCardell.
Does Derrick Mason belong in the Pro Football Hall of Fame? He has 790 receptions and still is piling them up. He has recorded five seasons of 80 or more catches (three seasons of more than 90, including a high of 103) and seven 1,000-yard seasons.
Reed caught 80 or more passes only three times (he topped out at 90) and had four 1,000-yard seasons.
Odds are, Reed eventually will get in. He could be waiting a long time. Art Monk retired in 1995 with the most NFL catches. He was an eight-time finalist when he entered the Hall of Fame last summer.
But when I think about Reed, I'm not overcome with memories of legendary greatness
I grew up watching Andre Reed snagging balls from Jim Kelly. I was 6 when they went to the Super Bowl. I am with Tim here. When I think Hall of Fame, I think game-changers. I don't mean single games. I mean they changed the game of football. I can't say that many WRs catching balls form Jim Kelly couldn't have been as good statistically. Look at Keenan McCardell or Derrick Mason, two guys Graham mentioned. They wouldn't be on a list of the 10 or 20 best receivers of all time. Reed has the stats but I don't know if he has the support from around the league. He belongs in the Hall of Great but not the Hall of Fame.
Let the debate begin.
Just another great fan opinion shared on the pages of BuffaloRumblings.com.

If Art Monk is a HOFer then so is Andre Reed.
The time has come for someone to put his foot down. And that foot is me.

Good point
If he does get in it will take him a while, just like Monk.

not this year
he won’t get in this year, but hopefully he will eventually.
reed was a big part of the postseason every year for the bills and i think that should come into play when talking about the hall of fame and that could help him get in.

YES
Andre Reed DOES belong in the Hall of Fame, for not only the number of catches that he accrued, but also the number of BIG catches that he made during games. Reed wasn’t a huge guy with a big mouth that made huge plays every game, but he kept drives going and let our other playmakers have a chance of putting one in the endzone. Reed does belong but some people are getting annoyed with his antics to get in.

YES HE IS A HALL OF FAMER. THERE IS NO DEBATE
Kawika Mitchell is a leader. He will help this young team develop.

He is
Because he is a game changer, and made huge plays. Not to mention he played with those huge shoulder pads (look at those things! For WR?) and at a time when offenses were different, and the Bills were a team with HOF qualities, which I think also means alot. When your team is winning because of you, that means alot.
I think he deserves it and stats don’t tell the whole story. A tough and great player. Great players deserve it, and only if we had him now.
The Bills CAN win every game

He didnt even go to a big time College program and then he came to the NFL and was part of one of the greatest offensive teams of the early 90's...
He’s gotta be in….

andre reed
He made the tuff catches down the middle and took a beaten for it . He belongs in the hall of fame. No questions

He should be in, but not until next year at the least. Cris Carter should be ahead of Reed this year, and I doubt 2 WR’s get voted in…

I hope Carter gets in this year
Because it would make it easier for Reed to make it next year. When does Jerry Rice become eligible?

I hope Andre makes it in but I think his time is in a few years when he can get in a class with less competition.
I hope that Steve Tasker can make it one day … but it’s such a popularity contest I don’t think he has a shot, unless there is an outright weak year.

Thoughts on Tasker
Tasker will probably need to be nominated by the Veteran’s committee sometime down the road. Too many glamor positions get the nods where Ray Guy (who I don’t think deserves it) and Tasker don’t even make it to the final 15. Oh well.
I think someday he makes it someday, just dunno when.

Good points. While I’m 50/50 on Reed, Tasker to me was the most dominant player in his role/position and, in a sport where there is only stats for certain positions like QB and RB, Tasker was a guy who teams game planned around (or didn’t at their own peril) and affected the outcome of games across several years because of what he did in the ST area. He went to 7 or 8 straight Pro bowls because of this prowess.
That’s no different that Andre Tippett, a one-dimensional player, getting in b/c he had a certain number of sacks or Harry Carson, who to me was an average LB at best (to me, no different that Bennett or Talley) but just happened to play alongside LT, play in the largest media market AND play for 2 SB winning teams. It’s an annoying mentality that’s crept into many sports including FB, but just because you win doesn’t justify you’re play in the HOF.
There’s too much politicking in PFHOF balloting. I know baseball has the advantage or stats to ease generational comparisons, but generally, they are the most stringent and to me the best reflection of what a HOF is about – the best players, no matter the position, of their generation.

Your argument for Tasker is my argument against Reed.
People had to gameplan for Tasker. They had to change everything about what they did on special teams to account for him.
Reed wasn’t the guy you gameplanned against for the Bills offense. Now maybe that’s because of his teammates. Maybe they shaded a saftey to Reed’s side but he was wasn’t one of those “double team him every play” type of players, especially once Lofton arrived.
Maybe I am too young to have a truly great understanding of the defenses the Bills went up against but I just think he, like Art Monk, wasn’t that game-changer type. He did make the big catches and he did do well in the postseason. I don’t know if Monk or Reed belong. Now that Monk is in, though, it’s tough to say Reed doesn’t belong.

YES
You can’t discredit him because the game has evolved. Look at some of the receivers in the HOF from the early days. Their numbers don’t come close, but they were still great players. If Art Monk, Steve Largent, Charlie Joiner, Tommy McDonald, Pete Pihos, John Stallworth, Bill Hewitt, Wayne Millner and Dante Lavelli are in Andre Reed should definitely be in.

I knew how to edit it but I just didn't know if it would be worth it to add the poll now.
I’m gonna do some digging on Reed, Ralph Wilson, Tasker, and Bruce and put together a few pieces for closer to the Super Bowl when they do the Hall of Fame selections. Keep an eye out.
