Gresham had 8 catches, 62 yards and 2 TDs last night against a fabulous Gators secondary. Bradford wasn’t playing all that well, either.
Still, one game should not a snap judgment make. I like Gresham, and this game strengthens my stance. But there’s a long, long time until the draft, and there are plenty of other prospects that would make a ton of sense for the Bills as well – one of which made some big hits for the Gators last night.

I agree
He looked very good last night. The kguy was high energy throughout the game and appeared to go all out each and every play. I have a feeling that depending on his combine workout he might not be around when we pick again in the second round. If he was, I would be more than happy welcoming him to our defense.

Second round? Guy’s a first-round pick for sure if he comes out, and probably a lock for the Top 15-20 as well. Some have him rated as the best LB available.

4 players
really helped their stock last night. Mccoy, Harvin, Spikes and Gresham. Harvin is probably a top 20 pick now, maybe moving in front of Maclin in the “playmaker” category.
Gresham really impressed me. I actually envisioned him in a Bills uniform. I wouldn’t be made if the Bills took him at 11.
Spikes, in my opinion, is equal to or better then Mauluaga of USC. He’s instinctive, makes plays and plays with a nasty streak. something sorely missing on the Bills defense.
McCoy would surely be a first round pick after his performance last night. At times he made Florida’s offensive line, which is not a bad unit, look slow.

Gresehm was great last night
I only watched the game when OU had the ball just to see this kid.

I found that he lacked intensity. He dropped a few on out patterns that he should have caught and I it just seemed like he lacked intensity. No denying his ability and that out&up that was called back looked awesome.
That being said, I would not be upset if we picked him. I just prefer my other option.

Gresham
Gresham did what he always does. Makes plays. However, my biggest concern is he doesn’t line up often on the line of scrimmage and gets free releases against nickel and dime packages. He wont get that in the NFL. What I love is that he is super fast, and runs great routes, and has phenonmenal hands. And what have I said about his ability in the red zone? well he proved that last night. The kid is a stud. Would look great in red, white and blue and the impact that he would have on the entire offense would be blatantly obvious from day 1.

Is he fast?
I can’t wait to see his 40 time in the Combine. He looked like a big body to me. On his second 2nd, didn’t the defender hit him and fall down? A man playing with boys. Marv is right about him getting off the line. What happens when he needs to get off the line vs a big, fast LB? When he was wide open he caught the ball well, but how about when tightly covered? How many of the catches he made would you say were tough catches? After he caught the ball, he just seemed to look for the 1st defender to hit and run over, not avoid or make a move to get around. Is this the vertical threat TE we are looking for? I am not saying he is not good, just wondering if he is special.

Release not a problem.
I don’t think getting a release will be a problem for him. He would not be a undersized TE he is 6’6 261. I think he would be able to get a release with that size and frame.
by kenner70 on Jan 9, 2009 10:23 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
On that long completion up the side that was called back
he lined up on the line and had a good (albeit not too well defended) release. Just saying he was able to get up the sideline from the linel.

This is the Player!!!
i was watching the game last night with my buddy who is a 49ers fan and we all remember them taking Patrick Willis one spot ahead of the Bills ( I still havent forgotten that) but I told him to watch Gresham play. He did not disappoint and I told him he will look good in Bills uniform next year. Now does he make it down to #11 is the question my friend seems to think he will not I have seen a few OU games this year and he looks like a man among boys in a very tough conference. Last night he was very effective especially near the goal line something the Bills sorely need!!! If he some how makes it to the Bills can it be argued that he would have the most immediate impact on the Bills of anyone they could bring in?
by kenner70 on Jan 9, 2009 10:20 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I must admit
Gresham was phenomenal last night. He not only came up big as his teams biggest play maker, he was a heck of a lot of fun to watch as well. All I could think about while watching the game was that he would look real good in a Bills uniform.
That said, I still don’t think we can justify spending a #11 pick on a tight end unless we grab starting caliber free agent DE and C first and re-sign Crowell. As good as Gresham looked there are guys like Rey Maulauga, Aaron Curry, and as Brian pointed out form last night’s game Brandon Spikes, who look jut as stunning when you watched them play as well. All three of those linebackers look like guys who can single handedly change a defense.
All I’m saying is, he looked better then I could have imagined last night, but that shouldn’t crown him our #11 pick just yet.

Wait a second, why am I the only one who wasn’t totally impressed last night? I don’t recall him making many big plays. I do recall Florida leaving him open underneath and Bradford using him as a safety valve. The first TD he was totally uncovered. The second was a quick 2 yard out where the LB was slow to get to him. He did break the tackle which was nice. In the open field he didn’t do anything to impress me. He tried running guys over, which doesn’t work in the NFL. What about his supposed great speed? I was impressed that he did actually line up to block, and did a pretty good job. I hadn’t seen him do that too often.
I’m wondering how a game in which he was an underneath safety valve is getting your guys’ pants all tight? We already have guys that can do that! To me, he doesn’t look any different than a guy we can find in round 2 or 3, definitely not the #11 pick to me!!!

Actually...
actually i’m with you K. I have to admit, I haven’t seen much of him, so I can’t make any concrete determinations, but boy did he seem slow last night. He made some plays, but I didn’t see any freak athelticism that would demand the #11 overall pick.

The guy
is 6’6" 260+lbs, what type of freak athleticism are you looking for? he outran 2 defenders down the sideline (safety and cb) and made a great catch. it was called back due to a hold (thank god!!). he is as good as advertised and would provide Trent with something he hasn’t had. I’m not saying he’s the end all but he certainly would be a major upgrade.

No arguments about Tebow as a college QB, but I might be up for debate on his pro prospects. I’m sick of people touting him as a first-round QB because he’s intense.

he's not a 1st rounder right now
Urban Meyer just hired a QB (formally of Michigan) coach that is renowned for getting QB’s ready for the NFL. He’s making his pitch to Tebow now in hopes that he stays. Tebow’s delivery is too long and his footwork needs to improve. and there’s the whole spead offense and working from shotgun. I will say that I wouldn’t put anything past Tebow though. You issue a challenge and he’ll do everything in his power to prove you wrong.
by gatornation on Jan 9, 2009 12:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I love Urban Myer too.
Is there any doubt he would out coach Jauron. At the end of the game, he put the game in the hands of his best player, Tebow. Everyone knew he was going to get the ball, but Myer didn’t care. He said, “Try to stop him”. Myer would have never called a rollout so the QB could fumble it.

Thank you
I hate being all alone!
I have seen him a handful of times, but I guess he never stuck out to me. I had never really been watching him closely before. I did last night and he didn’t really wow me. Sure he’s 6’6" or so, and 260 lbs, but he sure doesn’t look like the phenomenal athlete that some have speculated he is. He sure didn’t look like a borderline top 10 pick to me. I think Dustin Keller looked better going into last year’s draft.
I don’t know why everyone is freaking out about a guy who was catching nothing but underneath stuff. Sure, he had one deeper pass called back, in which he looked pretty good, but I just don’t see him being on the same level as a guy like Orakpo, Curry, Brown or even Spikes….

Imagine how much deeper it can be if guys like Maybin, McCoy and Selvie came out. I’m pretty sure Selvie is the only one I’ve seen who is officially staying in school… anyone else heard different on Maybin?

No, it’s definitely still the BPA Bandwagon. :)
Buffalo Rumblings - all you care to know about the Buffalo Bills and more

I should clarify: when I say “BPA”, I don’t mean “BPA regardless of position”. If Vontae Davis is BPA when the Bills pick, I’m going down to #2 on the board. Ideally, you balance need with the player. If Aaron Curry is graded out significantly higher on your board than Brian Orakpo, for example, you don’t take the end just because it’s your biggest need, even if that end can still be pretty good. You trust your grading.
That’s why my current Top 10(+) looks like this! (Here come the folks who want to disagree with me or call me crazy…)
1. Brandon Spikes, MLB, Florida (JR) – still has not officially declared
1.5. Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State (SO) – he’d be tops on my list in the unlikely event he declares
2. Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas (SR)
3. Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma (JR) – still has not officially declared
4. Aaron Curry, SLB, Wake Forest (SR)
5. Everette Brown, DE, Florida State (JR)
6. Taylor Mays, FS, USC (JR)
7. Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama (JR)
8. Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech (SR)
9. B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College (SR)
10. Rey Maualuga, MLB, USC (SR)
—-
11. Alex Mack, C, California (SR) (in case anyone was wondering where he fell)
A couple of guys I had on my list but who decided to return: USF DE George Selvie and BC OLB Mark Herzlich.

Really, Spikes? Not against that or anything, just surprised.
Fat blob Cody should stay in school and get in better shape….

You are not alone.........
I wasn’t completely blown away by the kid. He did seem a bit slow out there. I know he’s a big guy, but, to me he didn’t exhibit the supreme athleticism I was expecting. IMHO, he didn’t play with the energy that one should display during a National Championship game. The free releases off the LOS alot worries me too. He will not routinley see that in the pro. Although there were a couple of times he lined up, briefly engaged a defender, and still managed to get open. What really got to me, was the fact that there were a couple of times times when he needed to get out of bounds, and could have, he decided to engage the defender.
With that being said, kids got a lot of upside. Seems to constantly get open, got good hands, willing to block (not the greatest, but we don’t want him for his blocking right?). He looks strong. I really enjoyed seeing him run a few guys over. I also like his body control, like on that sideline catch that got called back. I would think he could be a very good pro, but do we take him at #11?

what
do you want to see? The kid makes plays….he did it on a national stage last night again. He is option #1A or #1B for them on every play and still makes plays. 66 catches 950 yds, 14 TD’s in 2008. What more do you want? All the physical attributes? You’ve watched him a handful of times and because in one game he didn’t make circus catches and look SUPER FAST, you are saying he isn’t that much better than anyone else? I don’t get it. He has a body of work, supreme athletic ability, and posesses the most important ability in a pass-catching TE…..“ability to rise up, get a jump ball and handle the physicalness of a DB during the jump.” Unlike what James “I pull a gun on my dad” Hardy.
Gresham is a stud. Is he worth #11? No one knows that till April but he sure as hell is one gifted player

Yes…I expected a bit more. That was the first full game I watched him play in, mainly because I don’t really watch college ball that much. All I had to go off of is what is being said around the net about the guy and all of his highlights I’ve watched of him in recent days. Maybe I expected tooo much. Is he getting open, or is he just never covered? I just don’t know if he’ll have that freedom in the pros. And what I didn’t like was the fact that he had about 3 opportunities to get out of bounds (once at the end of the half & twice at the end of the game…I think) and he chose to lower his shoulder a deliver a blow. And yes, he appeared to lack intensity for such a huge game.
All that said, due will probably be a stud TE at the next level, but I am just not so sure that with all of our needs, do we take him #11th overall?

my argument
is you watch Gonzalez, Witten, Gates….they catch the ball in the open field they protect the ball, get their YAC, and then run guys over. That IS what you want in a pass-catching TE. You want DB’s to have cringe ever time they tackle him. Gresham I think does an outstanding job of falling forward, with his large frame and getting those extra 2-3 yards that are so crucial on 3rd downs. He dosn’t have dominating speed, but his fluidity in his running is fun to watch and he has exceptional hands.

There is only one NFL football team that plays in New York state...and Canada?

Did you read my post K?

I just did
I agree with it (assuming it’s the one in this post from 10:04AM). He sure didn’t look like the big play guy everyone raves about. Not that that is a bad thing. I just don’t think a guy like him is significantly better than players in the 2nd-4th rounds….

yes, that is the one. I actually wrote those points down after the game last night
but didn’t post them because I thought I would be lonelier than a eunuch at the Playboy Mansion :-)

He lacked the intensity I’d expect from an 11th pick

I was wondering about his smarts.
Twice, he should have gone out of bounds to stop the clock, and he didn’t, although he could have. I hate seeing guys do that.

Spikes
is one of my favorite players coming out in the draft. Kid has swagger, great attitude and an attacking style. I would have no problems with him at #11 either

and that begs the question....
are you comfortable w/Poz at OLB? I don’t think I am since I don’t think he’s quick enough or moves well enough side to side….

Poz's
movement is suited for the outside. he has less space to occupy, won’t have to drop back 20 yards like at MLB and by all accounts was more comfortable on the outside.

Poz
Poz moves VERY well side-to-side… what he struggles with his his vertical drop, the back-and-forth required of the MLB in the cover-2. Poz’s best years (i.e. most big plays) at Penn State came as WLB where he is free to roam and sniff out plays. Poz’s best attribute are his instincts. His worst two (but by no means horrible) are his ability to drop deep into coverage and his ability to shed blocks, both of which would be nullified at WLB.

Jermaine
Perhaps the best thing about this kid is that he is only 20 or 21 his body isnt even mature yet he could be our TE for the next 10 yrs. I still like orakpo and mack. And I also belive something should be done to get two of these three kids here and in a buffalo jersey. I know we need a pass rush badly but if a could I would take mack and gresham.l And i belive our offense would be set for years. Provided Hardy comes around. I think this could be done by maybe trading our 1st next year and a third this yr. I think it would be worth it

OLB doesn't make sense in the first round
It would be pathetic if the Bills drafted an OLB at the 11th spot, when we have much bigger needs. What we first and foremost need is pass-rush, and an OLB is not going to be making that much of a difference. It’s the D-line that creates the pressure, which is why I say we take the best DE on the board regardless of Crabtree, Curry etc.
Jauron needs to make the playoffs this year or he gets fired. That’s a fact. If he wants to make that happen, he’d better get some difference makers, and a guy like Brian Orakpo or Everette Brown could be those difference makers. The problem I have with Maybin is that he’s extremely raw still and has a lot to learn, and therefore probably wouldn’t be too much of a factor in 09.
