Inactive Thoughts: Week 5
Last week I was 6 of 7 for the third straight week. Steve Johnson was inactive once again, much to the chagrin of many Bills fans, and Justin Jenkins was activated instead.
Several Bills are dealing with injuries and have been ruled out for Sunday's tilt: Paul Posluszny, Donte Whitner, and Bryan Scott will all be missing from the starting defense once again. Chris Ellis has been away from the team for a week coping with the sudden loss of his mother and will be inactive once again. Good news is that Demetrius Bell, John McCargo, and Jarius Byrd all participated fully yesterday after being limited earlier in the week.
Here is my list of 7 for this week in order of most likely to be inactive to least likely:
Posluszny, Whitner, B. Scott, and Ellis
Steve Johnson
Until he is activated again he will be near the top of this list every week. Justin Jenkins provides more serviceable special teams abilities to the Bills coaches.
Jamon Meredith
With Bell back healthy Meredith goes back to watching in street clothes unless the staff feels he might reaggravate the injury.
Ellis Lankster
Despite being the team's fifth cornerback he missed practice on Friday with back spasms. He is officially listed as questionable.
Do not be surprised to see John McCargo on this list if Lankster is healthy enough to go. The DT rotation has not included him much even when he was healthy.

I’d bet Lankster plays and McCargo sits. It seems like the coaching staff would rather go with 8 DBs than 8 DL and would value Lankster over McCargo on special teams too.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

Normally I’d agree with you. His back spasms are the only reason he sits this weekend.

So it’s the injury that’s a big factor. That makes sense.

He didn’t practice at all yesterday, so yeah.

Why the heck wouldn’t we want to see what McCargo has to offer, when our DT’s are getting dominated for the last two weeks. He at least offers serviceable backup-ability, something we don’t have on other positions.

Yes, the rotation is so thin at DT that one would think they would consider McCargo as essential if he is healthy.
I continue to believe the failure to use and develop Steve Johnson is a scandal. It’s yet another mark of how incompetent this coaching staff is on offense.

I don’t think our DTs have been the problem stopping the run. Anybody have stats on where our run defense is getting gashed? Is it inside or on stretches and tosses?

The LB’s have been the bigger problem, but with just three active DT’s the big guys tend to wear down as the game progresses.

Scuba Steve
Any word on why he hasn’t made it onto the field this year? I thought he had good potential.

Haven’t heard anything really. He’s caught in a big time numbers game behind Evans, Owens, & Reed at WR. Roscoe is active to return kicks so it comes down to Jenkins vs. Johnson. The coaches must feel Jenkins gives them more on special teams.

Hardy
Where does he fit in when he gets healthy?

Why do you think he was PUPed? :-) Even if he was healthy he wouldn’t have seen the field. I think Jenkins gets cut for a roster spot for Hardy but Johnson is active gamedays taking the special teams reps from Jenkins. Hardy = inactive the rest of the year on Sundays.
Or they could IR Hardy. That might piss him off though.

BTW
They have a week and a half before they have to make any decisions on Hardy. He can’t come back until after week 6.

Good gracious, I’m looking forward for tomorrow, where I have a feeling we either dominate the Browns to the extremes or we humiliate ourselves yet again and DJ gets the sack. I’m excited :D

Famdan is funnier
He’s the 3rd QB every week, He’s not going to be on the “active” list unless Edwards or Fitzpatrick is injured prior to a game.

Yeah I’ve just always counted him as the emergency QB. I mentioned it week 1. I went 7 for 7 this week. :-)
