Please trade T.O. !

There is no reason to keep T.O. on this team anymore. He has been on his best behavior which is why I think some organization would take a shot with him. I think we can easily get a 4th rounder from someone. With Hardy coming back and needing some playing time and we all know T.O. will be gone after his 1 year stint, he has no use for us anymore.   Your thoughts?

What would be a possible thought on Derrick Johnson in KC

Heaven knows KC is having a tough time too!

I'd take that trade

but why would the Chiefs want TO, assuming that’s what you’re inferring?

Well even though DJ is capable of making plays Haley likes Demorrio Williams better

The Chiefs obviously have a lack of playmakers on Offense.
DJ seems to want out of KC, can’t imagine why with 2 wins in forever.
plus he is actually if traded under contract, with no new collective bargaining agreement,
for this year and next.

Trade Lee Evans!

TO has had more of an impact that Lee. Unload his contract, get a couple of draft picks, and build a line that can keep Trent upright so he can pass the ball down field.

Lee isn’t playing badly, he just isn’t getting thrown to, what on earth is wrong with you?

He’s not getting thrown to because he’s not getting open. He can’t catch the ball underneath and get yards after the catch. His only bright spot is when he runs vertical. One dimentional. At least TO, at his age, can get YAC.

why evans is 27 and owens is reday to retire? y would you trade evans? Just because Trent is playing horrible and cann’t get the ball to him?

by csc06258 on Oct 13, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, first of all, I wouldn’t actively shop him.

But between the two, Evans has significantly higher trade value. He’s younger. He’s well-respected around the league, mostly because he plays here. Owens is Owens, and he’s a free agent after the season.

If I’m another team with an established QB looking for receiver help, I’m talking to Buffalo about Evans before I’m talking about Owens. That’s all. And if the right offer came along, I wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.

What would you get for Evans, a 2nd, thats a player like Hardy. So by getting rid of Evans, you make our team worse by getting rid of one of our best playmakers. He is regressing because Trent is regressing, its not his fault. So if you trade him for a 2nd round you would end up having to take another receiver at some point that probably will not be as good as evans, so you just made our team worse. Also, a team is not going to pick up his 9mil a year contract, that is way too much. He is getting almost as much money as Fitzgerald which is crazy. We invested in him for the long term, so lets keep it that way, we need a good QB and O-line. By the way if we didn’t fumble two times this season when it counted we’d be 3-2 and no one would be talking about trading Evans and Owens, so I don’t get why everyone is so trade happy now. We have talent at key positions, we need to trade our coach and our whole front office, thats what needs trading.

by csc06258 on Oct 13, 2009 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well, again, I said I’m not actively shopping him, so I’m not making the team worse, am I? All I’m saying is that it’s far more likely that teams call about Evans than about Owens, and if someone offered me a deal that was a little more than reasonable, I’d consider making the trade.

Yes more people would be looking at evans than owens I agree but if you lose evans, then owens at the end of the year what are you going to do for WR come next year? O and Josh Reeds contract is up this year too, so you potentially could lose your starting 3 Wide outs. Everyone wants to trade roscoe too, so your left with Steve Johnson, Hardy and Jenkins, what a solid group that is. We need to fix the O tackles and the Q.B position. Thats number one priority. What is a little more than reasonable, a 3rd round pick? That isn’t even close to what evans is worth. Just like that 1st round we got from the eagles wasn’t worth Peters. I love Wood, but I’d rather have Peters at LT than wood.

by csc06258 on Oct 13, 2009 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But would you rather have Peters at 10 mil per season than Wood at 2 mil per season? And it’s alright to still prefer Peters, but you’ve got to consider the money they make.

I don’t think it really matters who we have at wide out if we don’t throw them the ball. If we don’t have a line that can protect long enough to let the guys get open, Fred and the tight end dejur will continue to be our leading receiver.

Well, that’s the thing, isn’t it – it doesn’t matter who we trot out at receiver when our offensive line is in shambles, our quarterback position is questionable at best, and we can’t stop the run defensively. Aside from maybe three guys in the entire league, I’d trade any big-name receiver for a quality DT or even the chance to select a franchise QB.

To me, receiver is one of the positions that you address when the core of your team is built.

Maybe your trading for a Hardy type, but maybe your trading for Eddie Royal or DeSean Jackson. Or Matt Forte, John Carlson, Curtis Lofton or Brandon Flowers. All those guys were taken in the same vicinity of Hardy.

And isn’t it a little bit contradictory to say that Evans is more valuable to the Bills than a 2nd rounder and then say that his contract would make teams not want him? Which is it?

Money is obviously a huge factor for the Bills and other teams though. Remember, you’re not just trading Evans for the pick, you’re trading Evans for the pick and for whatever you’re going to do with the money you save. And that’s what might make a 2nd rounder as valuable as Evans. Sure we’d all rather have Evans than Hardy, even at his current salary, but who would rather have Evans making 8 mil a year than DeSean Jackson or Eddie Royal making 900K a season?

I don’t think Evans’ contract makes him tough to trade in any way though. It was reported as a 4 year 37.25 mil contract, but really, it was more like an extension. Buffalo paid him almost 12 mil last year (which was the last year of his rookie deal, but he got a bunch of upfront money thanks to the extension like contract), so really it was more like a 5 year 40-42 mil contract which is reasonable and left Buffalo with about four years and 28-30 mil to pay. After this season, Evans only has three years and 18-20 mil left depending on incentives earned. It’s a very reasonable contract for a new team to take on.

Another question

Who would rather have Evans making $8M a year, compared to a DeSean Jackson or Eddie Royal at $8M. Myself, I’d rather have either of the other two if the costs were exactly the same. Younger, more to offer, etc…

maybin is horrible and will never be anything unless hes a LB in a 3-4. He needs to put on 30 lbs if he wants to be a DE in this league.

by csc06258 on Oct 13, 2009 2:24 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

30 pounds? So he needs to weigh 275 to be any good? Plenty of players have great careers in the 240-250 pound range. You’ve got to give Maybin some time. He missed most of camp and was one of the younger and more inexperienced players in the draft. DEs are one of the slower developing positions in general too.

he doesn’t weigh 240 or 250 like they say, i saw Mathis on sunday night football and they said he is 255 and he is huge compared to Maybin. Even all the experts said before the draft, Maybin won’t get any looks from 4-3 teams, but our great scouting group thought different and thats why we will miss out once again.

He weighed 249 at the combine. What experts said he wouldn’t “get any looks from 4-3 teams”. I don’t think I saw that anywhere. And Maybin is 21 years old, he’s going to get bigger.

Here’s Maybin at the combine:

You all realize the trade deadline is either tomorrow or Wednesday, right? I highly doubt this organization had the hindsight to put together a “disaaster plan” in place in case the team was done by the Canadian Thanksgiving.

The smart thing to do would be to have a firesale now.

TO was the only upbeat player in the huddle on our last failed drive attempt! I couldn’t believe it, but it seems like he was actually the only one who didnt tuck his tail between his legs. A TO trade could actually work. Take a team like the Bears, who could really use a legit #1 WR. They definitely will be in the playoff hunt and a WR like TO for a 3rd rounder could be tempting. So….

Jauron tells TO that they’re getting calls about a possible trade and Jauron tells TO that he won’t be traded if he doesn’t want to go….but that the Bills aren’t what everyone thought they’d be and that TO might want to finish the year with a contender, not a rebuilder. TO feels empowered and respected. If he doesn’t want to go he shouldn’t have a crappy attitude. If he wants to go Buffalo picks up an extra draft pick and unloads a chunk of salary.

The only downside is that Hardy won’t have TO to follow around like a lost puppy. Speaking of Hardy, he should be back after the bye so Edwards will still have a big guy to throw to.

The only downside is that Hardy won’t have TO to follow around like a lost puppy.

We’ve got two and a half months left in the season and then TO is gone. I don’t think Hardy would be picking up much more from TO over the final 11 games that he hasn’t already picked up….I don’t really think there’s much downside there…

I really have to disagree with that. He hasn’t played in a game when TO has been there to guide him. A lot of different situations have got to come up when it’s an actual game rather than practice. Assuming Hardy actually can get back in the lineup, I think it would be amazingly useful to have TO around, if only for a few games.

I’m not saying it’s reason enough to keep TO around, but he’s got to be a valuable source for insight.

They won’t bench Reed and they haven’t even found a way to get Stevie in the lineup and more importantly on the field.

When your offense is so weak that you loose a game where the opponent completed only 2 of 17 attempts for 23y and 1INT, what does that tell you?

4th or 5th rounder in exchange for a playoff run seems well worth it.

I’m thinking about teams like Baltimore & Pittsburgh and maybe to a lesser extent Atlanta & Chicago. Only teams that are serious contenders who have established QBs and that need a decent 2nd receiver.

I don't get the whats so good about 4th and 5th round picks

People like Moss, Edwards who are great players in the league get traded for 4th and 5th round picks. I am sorry but after round 3 the chances of striking huge goes way down. Wouldn’t you rather have an elite Receiver in T.O than a 4th round pick? That guy probably won’t even make the team once he is drafted and will come no where near the player T.O is, so i don’t get the logic? I mean what did the Raiders get for Moss with that 4th rounder? A backup lineman, or a player thats not on the team? I don’t get trades in the NFL today and If people are that oblivious I would trade my 4th round for Boldin and steal him, just like the Jets stole Brayland Edwards from Cleveland.

by csc06258 on Oct 13, 2009 1:43 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Way to bring up the Raiders – I think that alone nullifies anything.
And honestly the Bills offense with TO is as electric if not worse then last year with out him.
If anything getting rid of TO might allow Lynch to get some more carries; and if we are going to lose I would rather see Lynch run some people over then see TE overthrow TO – or TO to drop a ball – IMHO.

Here’s the list of guys in their prime who were drafted in the fourth round (or first few picks of the fifth):

Alex Brown
David Thornton
Brian Williams
David Garrard
Randy McMichael
Jarvis Green
Larry Foote
Bradie James
Terrance McGee
Jarrett Johnson
Seneca Wallace
Jeremi Johnson
Asante Samuel
Ike Taylor
Robert Mathis
Shaun Philips
Jerrico Cotchery
Nathan Vasher
Will Allen
Jared Allen
Stacy Andrews
Antonio Smith
Gibril Wilson
Kyle Orton
Marion Barber
Brandon Jacobs
David Stewart
Kerry Rhodes
Jason Brown
Todd Herremans
Darren Sproles
Chris Canty
Ronald Fields
Owen Daniels
Jahri Evans
Stephen Tulloch
Leon Washington
Brandon Marshall
Barry Cofield
Elvis Dumervil
Ray Edwards
Kyle Williams
Parys Haralson

So those are the guys taken in about a 40 pick window between 2002 and 2006. You’ve basically got a 20-25% chance to get a player like that and better than a 10% chance to grab a really great player. If you don’t think that a 4th round pick has value, you’re not in a spot to be calling anybody oblivious.

Simple answer
(a) Our season is over and Trent is unable to throw the ball downfield, so TO is like a stripper, cute but useless.
(b) We picked up Shawn Nelson in the 4th

Remember, we just lost a game where the opponent’s offense completed 2-17 for 23y with 1 INT. What does that say about our offense?

T.O. has served his purpose

He enabled to Bills to sell more tickets and merchandise.

Other than that, the team is 1-4 with no offense and is going nowhere…..so what’s the big deal whether he finishes the season here or not? I wouldn’t miss him if he left. It would almost make more sense if they played some young guys who need experience to help us down the road.
