Dear Jim Kelly, Please buy the Bills.
Dear Jim Kelly,
Please buy the Bills from Mr. Wilson. Give the Football fans of Western New York a reason to hope again. Ebenezer Scrooge Wilson has given away our teams future and we need you to save us from mediocrity as you did once before. The fans are helpless. The aged miser sits counting his gold coins as we hunger for a winning team cold and empty. Mr. Wilson will not change, and we can suffer this no more. So please buy the team and go get that Super Bowl ring!

Bad news Pietro
Jim Kelly said on a radio show the day after the Browns game that he is no longer in the biding for the team and is done trying to buy the team.

Jim Kelly can’t buy the Bills. The NFL requires there to be a majority owner. So unless Jim Kelly has 400-500 million dollars or knows somebody who has that kind of money, he’s not buying the team. If an actual candidate to buy the Bills steps forwards, Kelly could join with him and help out in finding some minority owners and help create a group that can put an acceptable bid together. But Jim Kelly will not be the saviour of the Buffalo Bills.
Ralph Wilson is never selling this team, nor should he have to.
And typically, I try to avoid the off topic stuff, but why can’t Rush Limbaugh own 10% of the St. Louis Rams? Why is that such a big deal? Because he once said that the media wants Donovan McNabb to succeed – - gasp – - How terrible! This is a league that brought Michael Vick back after doing unspeakably disgusting things to animals and a league that allowed Pacman Jones, who has been arrested how many times? And is literally responsible for a man not being able to walk anymore, a second chance and a conservative talk show radio guy can’t be a minority owner in the NFL because he’s stirs the pot with the occasional politically incorrect comments that are mostly ratings grabs anyways? Unbelievable. Hypocrhisy reaches a whole new level in this country on a daily basis.

I don't like Limbaugh and still think you make great points
Listening to McNabb’s comments on the situation made me sick. Hypocrisy is an understatement! rec’d

Apparently our discussion of a topic covered by every single national sports outlet wasn’t football related enough for this site

No place for politics
Just as these blogs are not the place for politics, The NFL is no place for a political figure, especially a racist one.
If Wilson won’t sell and Brandon is still the GM; Bills fans must pray for a miracle.

I agree the NFL is no place for politics, but he would be a minority owner, basically an investor. People are acting like the St. Louis Rams would be nothing more than a soap box for him to stand on. He would have no say in how the Rams or the NFL are run. He’d basically be a fan who pays millions for his seats and gets a check in the mail when the team makes some money.
Whether or not Limbaugh is racist isn’t a conversation I want to have because it would be a long and heated one, but suffice it to say, I disagree that he’s racist.
What I find ridiculous is that nobody would bat an eye if Bill Maher bought a team. And people would actually appluad Al Sharpton for buying a team. If that isn’t the definition of hypocrisy, I don’t know what is.
And I might as well keep typing these same words over and over again all winter until the Bills are done hiring: Ralph Wilson isn’t half as cheap as people think he is.

Bill Maher is not a racist.
The difference is Bill Maher is not a divisive racist who makes his living off of fear and negativity. It is obvious the NFL wants nothing to do with his kind and I doubt any other professional sports league would either. It has nothing to do with a liberal conspiracy and everything to do with the fact that Limbaugh is just not a good person. Make excuses if you want, but his rejection is total and with good reason.

I guess it just depends on the way you look at things.

I think Golisano ...
… is really the team’s only hope.
But I wonder if Larry Quinn would then run the Sabres AND the Bills?
ACK!

In the NFL you cant own two Professional team Franchises I am pretty sure, so Golisano would have to sell the Sabres before he bought the Bills. Correct me if I am wrong

you are correct

Actually you are wrong.
In the NFL, You can own two proffesional sports franchises as long as they are in the same market. Which is the case with Golisano.
There's not a wide receiver who is fast enough, that J.P. Losman can't overthrow him on a fly pattern.

no – i’m not sure your right. where did you hear that? actually i’m pretty sure that the NFL does not want this.
anyone got any solids on this?

With the way he has run the Sabres, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near the Bills.
by Mark Parisi on Oct 14, 2009 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
what if that was the only thing that kept them in WNY?
plus – the sabres build teams how your suppose to – by drafting and developing their own players. isn’t that how NFL teams are suppose to be built?

That you can’t own multiple pro teams as an NFL owner
by Posluszny Pollocks on Oct 14, 2009 12:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Is this a new rule?
Wayne Huizinga owned the Dolphins, Florida Marlins and Florida Panthers.
by JTM1023 on Oct 14, 2009 7:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
so none of the current nfl owners
are owners of any other pro or semi-pro team in any other league?
by sabre74kkn on Oct 14, 2009 12:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I believe
owners can own other professional franchises but they cannot be majority owner. And they can own professional teams just not NHL, MLB, NBA.
by danntheman on Oct 14, 2009 2:23 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Owners Can own an NFL team and other professional Teams in other sports
An NFL rule allows ownership of NFL teams and teams in other sports, but only if they are in the same market. That would be a problem if Kroenke wanted to become majority owner of the Rams because he owns the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche.

Nope – Pollocks, as in people of Polish descent (and yeah, it can be spelled about 5 different ways….so you can skip the Polish joke! j/k)

thanks ...
So Golisano could own the Bills and Sabres.
The only other person I can think of that would by the team is Mark Hamister.
Jeremy Jacobs owns the Bruins so he couldn’t be involved based on that rule.

Congressman Brian Higgins at one point sent a letter to Commissioner Goodell, encouraging the NFL to allow the Bills to adopt a community ownership similar to that of the Green Bay Packers. I know he met with Goodell (and I believe Schumer) on the topic.
I wrote a paper for a Sports Law class on this topic – making the argument the NFL should amend the ownership bylaws (which aren’t actually public – nor was I able to attain them) to allow it.

Buffalo would buy the team up in a second!
by Pietro Sirianni on Oct 15, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. And it would be wise to have a majority owner of 51% – in order to meet the 30% requirement of the ownership bylaws. This would also allow a potential new owner to only have to pony up half the cost.
