Thoughts on the Billboard
Let me say a few things first. I would like to see the Bills fire Jauron and the entire Bills organization as much as the next Bills fan. Putting up a billboard in Buffalo is rediculious to borderline embarassing. First and foremost, Jauron and everyone else in the organization are people. People who have families that will probably see this billboard. How would you like it if your daughter saw a billboard up proclaiming you to be fired? I think its classless. If you want to throw $1300 to a billboard how about a phone number for the program "cash for guns" or a drunk driving ad. Instead we have an 18 year old boy named Adam who is from PA not Buffalo heading up this effort. With all the time he has spent on this endeavor the unemployed boy may have found a job by now. In my humble opinion I think Adam did this for publicity, for himself. I think that stinks!

Agreed
While we all want Jauron fired, this is not the way to go about showing our frustration. If Bills fans really want to send a message to Ralph, don’t go to the Bills games. An empty stadium is a far more shocking then some stupid billboard.

Actually Disagree
Not that I am not being supportive of the programs you mentioned, but people waste money on stupid things every day. This is a cognative distortion, because someone spent money on a wastefull item, they did not spend it on one that would provide value. Whomever paid for the billboard, would probably not have paid for the programs you mentioned.
Not going to games, actually does not accomplish the task of sending a message to Ralph Wilson, the tickets have been paid for and the money he makes from vending, etc. would be off-set by the lack of personnel needs, at least marginally.
So if someone wants to put out a Billboard calling for the firing of a public person, and let’s not confuse that, Jauron is out there, so be it. I have not seen the billboard, but I assume it isn’t an axe being swung above Jauron’s head. Simply put Jauron hasn’t done a reasonable, or even marginally acceptable job. His performance speaks for itself. The person whom put up the Billboard is passionate and probably a guy/girl whom spends a significant amount of money on the Bills, and in turn pays at least a fraction of Jauron’s salary (bordering on a cognative distortion myself here – but you get the point). If they feel so strongly that firing Jauron helps a cause they are passionate about – Bills football, than it is their perogative to display it how they wish.

CANT AGREE...
This team has been mediocre to bad the last 10 years… Something semi-drastic had to be done. And who cares where the kid lives hes a bills fan just like you and me. Jason from OH is right… the tickets have been paid for, the moneys coming in still for ralph. Something DIFFERENT had to be done. I applaud the kid for taking the time and effort to do this. So many people talk about what they’re GOING to do, he actually DID it.

I agree with the fanpost. The media and nfl fanbase has reduced this team to a laughing stock as it is. Is a billboard really going to be the tipping point for Ralph?
With the negative publicity the buffalo fanbase has received all ready this year (via vandalism, theft, etc.), this doesn’t help in my opinion. I too find this classless.

If Adam had organized a ralley to picket outside the Ralph before the next Bills game, for sweeping changes in the Bills organizational structure , I would be there. I would love to see a thousands of people picket before the game outside the turnstiles. Then enter the stadium at 1:30. i think that would make a better statement. I may be on to something here…lol

I would not call it classless
Like Bflo said; he is obviously a fan and is tired of pouring his heart and soul into a team that continuously breaks them.
Now would I spend the money to do this? No. I will not spend a single dollar on this team until there are different people in control of the team, and our money.
After attending the Browns Bills game this past weekend i could not help but feel cheated. It was boring and sad. TV announcers were laughing, further turning our beloved franchise into a mockery.
Conclusion: it is not about money. It is about pride. Was the placement of a billboard calling for the firing of out head coach the best decision? Maybe not, maybe miss guided, but it is doing something to express how they feel to this organization.

This organization needs to be embarrassed. I know they’re doing a good job of that on the field right now but it needs to be taken to another level and I personally think the billboardis just a way to do that. Lets face it no one going to those games are going to leave at half of go in after the 1st quarter. Its just not gunna happen… A rally i could see but again someone would have to set that up and thats all this kid did with the billboard. Im not saying its the right thing. But maybe Trent can see the F#@$ING sign cuz somehow he couldnt hear the 73,000 boo’s last week! Its disgusting the effort they put in…

I am torn on this one
Does this kid have the right to express his opinion? Yes. Do people have the right to spend their money however they choose? Yes. Will I be sending him any money for this little enterprise? NO! What will the billboard say and look like? Will it be in good taste or cross the line? This kids has no real accountability on his part for what the billboard says. He will not have to explain himself or give his reasoning behind why he thinks Jauron should be fired. I would rather he wrote a letter for the opinion section of the paper. Who is going to change there minds after seeing this? Do people really think that Ralf is unaware of the fans opinion regarding Jauron?

Brian has been right
I was calling for Jauron’s head since last year and again in the beginning of this year. At this point I’m completely apathetic on the issue. The season is over in terms of being competitive. It doesn’t make a difference if he is fired today or in December really. We need to blow up the current system and start fresh like many have recommended.
I liked the article posted about things to do during the season when your team stinks. My personal favorite thing to get me through is to try and project who we are going to draft. Right now I love the DT from Nebraska Suh, and hopefully we will have a top 5 pick to get an immediate impact guy like that. I also like to see how young guys progress so guys like Byrd, Maybin, Wood, and Levitre will be interesting to watch throughout the year.

Overall I’m not a huge fan of the board, but I think the OP is overreacting. Head coaches aren’t like a job, criticism is part of the jobs nature. Also the truth is that it pays millions of dollars. If Jauron is fired he’s not going to be shivering in the cold all alone, he’ll live in a mansion the rest of his life.
If you want to throw $1300 to a billboard how about a phone number for the program “cash for guns” or a drunk driving ad. Because nobody would buy that, because if they wait long enough it will show up as a public service announcement. Every message doesn’t need to be political or devoted to a moral cause, (although in some fans mind perhaps the message on this billsboard IS a moral cause!) if they did then bathrooms wouldn’t have stalls!
Instead we have an 18 year old boy named Adam who is from PA not Buffalo heading up this effort. So what? I was born in Warren, PA (I was raised in WNY) right near the border and there are crazy Bills fans there all the way to Erie which is about 50/50 Bills/Steelers. As for his age, I think you touched on why he was inspired to do this. He hasn’t lived through a period of time when the Bills were good. Think about how upset you are now at this franchise and then think about not even having a taste of the 90s Bills. Finally as for the unemployed comment, I think mobilizing an entire city to give him $1,300 dollar bodes well for his future.

Freedom of Speach
I have absolutely no problem with the Billboard.
I would never have anything to do with it or anything like it (via investment or other means).
But, that’s the choice we have.
I would also take $3 million to be an NFL coach and deal with any warranted critism and explain to my family that is how it is. Actually I would take an NFL coaching job for free and deal with the critism and affect on my family.

Never said it did. But I like the idea – of course Ralphs going to do what Ralphs going to do.
What bothers me is people chastising this guys idea as classless or wrong – when he’s bringing an issue to the forefront – I honestly wish more people were like this. Instead of letting issues just go unknown from a publc perspective – IE the elephant in the room.
This billboard will probably do nothing – but make no mistake – it has the Bills attention, probably even more so than the firedj websites – in my mind – it’s already worth it.
Now if we could get people to be this proactive when it comes to government……..

when he’s bringing an issue to the forefront
Then that’s where we disagree. This isn’t only an issue that already was on the forefront, it’s one that already has a forgone conclsusion. Jauron is as good as fired. He will not be back next season. That’s why the billboard accomplishes nothing. If he had put this up after the team’s collapse last year when there was an actual debate about Jauron, I wouldn’t have had a problem with it. I think it’s classless because the issue it’s supposedly bringing to the attention of the team already had the team’s full attention and Ralph already knew what needed to be done. At this point, the billboard isn’t even fanning the flames, it’s a 110 degree windy day with no humidity on top of the forest fire. It’s kicking a guy while he’s down.

But nobody is saying he doesn’t have the right. This has nothing to do with the first amendment. Your legally aloud to get up on a soap box and talk anything. Somebody could say that America is the worst country in the history of mankind because we don’t allow canibalism. And if somebody wrote up a billboard proclaiming that, we shouldn’t celebrate it because it’s legal.
This is about the content of the message and not about the legality of it. Considering that Jauron was definitely going to be fired anyways, I find the billboard to be tasteless and selfish.

It’s one thing to use a billboard like this to advertise your stance in a debate. But Dick Jauron being fired is a foregone conclusion. Whats wrong with having a voice, or a say in the matter. We all have a voice or say when we are electing a president, so why can’t we have a say about who we want or think should be our head coach? I love this Idea and it reiterates what America is all about…Freedom!

This has nothing to do with the first amendment. If the billboard had nothing to do with the Bills or Jauron, say it was a pro KKK billboard, or it was a billboard trying to legalize a terrible crime like rape or some other abuse, would you still have the same feelings? The first amendment protects those things too. Nobody is saying he can’t do this.
I signed up for Second Life about a year ago. Back then my life was so great that I literally wanted a second one. In my Second Life I was also a paper salesman and I was also named Dwight. Absolutely everything was the same. Except I could fly. - Dwight Schrute

yea but saying dick jauron we want you gone versus promoting rape and kkk is not even close to each other buddy. It says Ralph, clean house. What is so offensive or bad about that? Your point is flawed by your terrible analogies but you have the right to your opinion. We want change in Buffalo and we know Ralph won’t do it because he doesn’t want to eat his own cash. This pputs it out there that the fans are really upset in where this team is heading

The analogies are only about the first amendment. It’s my way of saying this has nothing to do with the first amendment. We’re allowed to disagree with the message of somebody without violating their first amendment rights. The first amendment doesn’t only defend his right to put up a billboard, it also defends my right to say he’s selfish and classless for putting up the billboard.

I wouldn’t mind those at all. I’d laugh at the idiocy of the situation, but I wouldn’t do anything to try and call it wrong. It’s a billboard. Get over it.
Bills fan? In Colorado? It's more likely than you think.

The one move I would make as a fan is simply to boycott the games and thereby let Ralph know that we’re hugely disappointed of the way things are going with this franchise. Of course, I can see the motivation behind it, and if it makes Ralph think twice about hiring proven losers like Jauron again, then by all means do it, but I wouldn’t personally have put all this work into buying a billboard.

Start with, something you can end with.
After reading some of the comments made about this angry yet disappointed 18 year fan of the Bills, I admire your passion and your fanatic drive for this team, but this action your going to try, will be repeated for every major league team for every sport. It will cause a blackeye for the City of Buffalo and it’s fans. You are not gonna like this when someone in your life do the same thing to you when you have a job. Your not going to stay the age of 18 years old all you life. You sow this bad seed, you will reap it. Allow Dick Jauron to coach the Bills and let the Ralph Wilson see his mistakes right in front his face; from the General Manager to the strength coach.

Disappointed in this article, mainly in who wrote it
I am a HUGE Bills fan, and have been since 1988, when I was 8 years old and attended my first Bills game. I currently reside in PA, not BUFFALO, 40 miles away from the hometown of the 18 yr old billboard erector. (I do not know him, I just found this out last night on yahoo where he lives) To belittle this guy and any other Bills fan b/c of his current town is very ignorant.
I love the Bills just as much as you and other rumblers and agree with this billboard, b/c it voices our opinion as fans of the team, a team that has disappointed us for over a decade now. I think not supporting your team (sitting out the first qtr. of the Texans game) as you stated above, is less classy. The team is playing their hearts out, and deserves the fans support, regardless of the outcome of the past games. The management is letting us down, which is the sole reason the billboard is being rented. I almost bought Bills/Texans tix on ebay last night, and will keep looking for tix. I want to see TO play in a Bills uniform and support the rest of the guys that have tons of heart (Poz, Whitner, Lynch, etc) I still want to support my team, unlike some people…
They are hard to play but not hard to beat.

Sluss88,

I think the tix are going for a lot less than face value now!
I am looking for 2, as I am taking the woman to the Ralph (if we go). Let me know what you have and price, I live in h-burg, so I could pick it up.

I have only one ticket unfortunately
But you are right, face value is expecting too much. It’s a $51 seat. I’ll sell for $35.
3rd row upper deck, 10 yd line. Great view.
Slim chance a second becomes available if one of my daughters cannot go.

Geez, lighten up, people
Were this many people upset for McGahee when a billboard blasted him a couple of years ago?
If next week’s billboard is unusually offensive to Jauron, Modrak or Guy, there’s a solution.
Resign. Something each or all could have done some time ago.
They are making too much money for putting a terrible product in front of us each week for me to care about their feelings.
And just because this 18 year old is from PA is irrelevant. I live less then 20 miles from him in York, PA and have season tickets. No one is a bigger fan than I am. You don’t have to be from south Buffalo to be affected by this mess.

In all honesty, they’re also far too intelligent to let something like a billboard get to them.
