No sense in beating a dead what?

Sorry, i need to get this out of my system before I can start getting excited for Sunday.  George Wilson said - "For the most part, coach Jauron is even keeled. Last year when we were 4-1, he was the same way he is now when we're 1-4."   This drives me up the wall. How does everyone but the Bills front office realize that football teams usually resemble the attitude and emotions of their head coach.  I understand "act like you've been there before", but Jauron is passionless and uninspired and that's exactly the way that his players play.  Look at Bill Cowher's teams, Rex Ryan, etc. (hell i'll even throw in Josh McDaniels).  If i have to sit through one more catatonic press conference where Jauron refers to his team as a "great group of guys," my head is going to explode.  Even if one of my teams lacks the talent to be truly competitive, I enjoy watching them as long as they play hard and show heart.  Then the occassional upset is that much sweeter. If you are going to make mistakes, take shots and make your mistakes going 110%.  This has just been a really really tough team to watch on so many levels, and I think it all starts with the attitude of the head coach.

-OK no more negative Jauron bashing for the week.  How sweet would an upset against the jets and Rex Ryan be this Sunday?

An upset would be sweet to shut up the Jets fans for a while (as well as that shrutebag Mike Greenberg).

"They played hard."

Le’s not forget this patented Jauron line.

In fact, last week they played so hard they attained 9 false start penalties. When I tell others Jauron’s explanation for the false starts, they are in disbelief.

Yep, our Bills practiced a “hard count” in practice during the week in order to pull the NFL’s worst rush defense offside. Yes, we would need trickery to defeat the winless Browns. Instead, the league’s worst offensive line was moving before the defense moved.

He has a very go-thru-the-motions attitude and its rubbing off on our players. So lazy and undisapplined(sp?). How could you honestly act no different from when you’re 4-1 and when you’re 1-4?!?!?!?!?!

Jauron is not lazy nor undisciplined. He may lack outward passion but don’t get confused.

The team is lazy and undisciplined. Incredibly undisciplined.

No doubt about that....

Plus there is no accountability for this, either….

And there won't be.

Unfortunately until we get some canned Dick.

But that has not been a hallmark of Jauron-coached teams. His past teams have had some of the lowest penalty totals in the history of the Bills.

And I don’t know about lazy. I personally haven’t seen guys loafing. They have been inept and unsuccessful, though. There’s no denying that.

Jauron is “acting like you’ve been there before.” Before this season his avg. record was 7-9. He’s always been there.

How would he know what it is like to be there

Maybe they should act like what it might be like if

I agree

I would like to see a coach with a pulse on the sidelines. In dicks press conference, he was like “its not my job to motivate guys, if you don’t have guys that are motivated then you got the wrong guys.” What a joke, then what is your job Dick? These players NEED a sense of urgency, which Trent doesn’t feel there is in the locker room

New Coach

This is a great one I would love to see this happen, but I know thisis a bunch of bull.
A close friend told me that he just talked to a friend of his that had dinner with a group of four people who are very close to Bills insiders. (No names mentioned) The lastest scoup is that Jim Haslett will be in town and coach of the Bills within two (2) weeks. Also TO is going to be traded to the Titans for Vince Young and cash or draft picks. Let me know when you guys stop laughing!!!!

I've always hated that

Act like you’ve been there before crap. I mean, don’t celebrate as to rub it in the other team’s face, but if you’re happy and excited, ACT IT! I like my players, coaches, management, owner to wear it on their sleeves because that’s the way I live my life. If you’re pissed, get f##king pissed!

like when the Broncos won against the PAts?

Man, what glory it must have been to be a Broncos fan that Sunday, and all week for that matter…that coach is fired up, the team is fired up, Orton looks like Losman’s brother andplays like Joe Montana…unreal stuff.

But anyway….I like our chances this Sunday, just because there is a small chance of anything good happening.

As per this rant-post…it is all part of the same spot on assessment that Jauron is not a good coach, and I find it hard to believe a 60 year old coach is going to elevate his game any…or transform himself into something he is not anytime soon

Good Luck With Your Firings Mr. Wilson….Go Bills!

Would I love to see a little fire from the head coach? Yes. Do I think it makes one bit of difference in the outcome of football games? No.
Bill Beilchick is even more dry and stale then Jauron and he has no problem winning games. Fire from the head coach isn’t a must to win games. I think it couldn’t hurt to see a little fire which is why I would like to see it, but I really don’t think that if Dick Jauron went into the meeting room and broke some chairs and spit in peoples faces and dropped his pants a la Mike Singeltary that this team will all of a sudden become better for it.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

speak softly and carry a big stick. belichek may be calm and even keeled, but you can see in his eyes, the way he carries himself, the disdain with which he shakes guys hands who are on his doody-list – he’s got the killer instinct and brass balls. dj seems like a nice guy, a guy you would want as a neighbor. killer instinct? Ha.

Again, another guy who has a spark of life in him. You’re really going to compare Dungy’s demeanor to DJ? DJ is on his own planet. Not even keeled… the best one might say for him is that he’s repressed. but more likely he is the milk toast he comes off as. I know guys here say, we don’t know what he’s like in the locker room, and that’s true, but NO ONE is that good at being two faced.

And Dick Jauron isn't close to Dungy as a coach

I wish that comparison would stop!

Yes he is a better coach, but that wasn’t the point of this post was it? The poster brought up Jauron’s stoicism like it was a blight on the team. Poz was simply showing an example of how a coach can be even keeled and still be successful. Just because a coach doesn’t grab his players by the face mask and chew their faces off doesn’t mean he doesn’t care.

I will say this once more then I am done with this silly subject; Dick Jauon has many faults as a coach. His demeanor isn’t one of them. Just because you are mad at the way the team played and you want to kick a chair across the room, doesn’t mean the coach should too. Why does everyone focus on his demeanor and not complain this much about his horrible coaching staff selections? Or his bad game day decisions? Or his crappy game plans? Or the teams plethora of penalties? The lack of fundamentals and discipline that this team shows? Those in my mind are bigger problems then how dry Jauron is in his post game press conference. For some reason Bills fans can’t focus on the bigger problem and nit pick at inconsequential things like this.

No weekend spent pantsless is a wasted weekend.

by sireric on Oct 16, 2009 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t focus on that at all. I’ve said my piece on his horrible gameday coaching, decision making, roster moves, time management, game planning, in game adjustments, discipline and hiring blunders many times over. Those are all much much bigger problems, though its probably all water under the bridge at this point.

I’m just sick of seeing Dungy’s name brought up when someone is talking about Jauron. That’s just unfair to Dungy. Art Shell is a much better name to compare Jauron on the sidelines to.

Art Shell. That’s closer than Dungy. Dungy could do proper head coach things, like hire competent assistants. Did Jauron even have much experience as a defensive coordinator? I hope whoever our new coach is, if it’s not one of the big names (which might not provide the right fit here), would be someone with some kind of head coaching experience and a track record of winning, By HC success, I don’t mean the kind that DI football factories have, I’m thinking more of a mid-major success, or even DII-DIII success. To succeed at those lower levels you need to do a lot of the same things as an NFL head coach in order to succeed. DI factory schools succeed for the most part becuase they don’t have to recruit, the recruits come to them. At DII and DIII to win consistently it needs to be with superior scheming and better in season talent evaluation than recruiting strength.

Haha Art Shell, I’m still laughing!

I wish people would stop saying you need to be less than even keeled to win. The comparison is valid. Yeah they are nowhere near the same level as coaches. NObody is saying that.

My point /rant was valid. I am well aware of the plethora of problems that currently plague the Bills and I didn’t mean to imply that I think if Jauron threw a chair at Roscoe we would turn this thing around. My point is that while coaching smarts are very very important, teams often (I think Dungee is the exception not the rule) reflect the “swagger” of their head coach. Jauron always comes off soft and uninspired and his players reflect this attitude on Sundays. People can disagree with me but I don’t think that’s a coincidence. - There are few things I hate more than the New Jersey Jets and an upset would be so sweet this Sunday.

You say that your point is valid, they give an example that doesn’t fit an you claim it is an anomaly. Seems odd to me. The reason that Dungy was so successful is because he is a good coach plain and simple. When his team hit some adversity he was praised for his even keel, just like Jauron was when his team exceeded expectations his first year and the next year when they were hit with injuries.

FACT

When the team wins nobody cares how stale Jauron is in press conferences. When they lose, all of a sudden it is the biggest problem with his coaching.

Teams reflect the confidence of winning

Not

reflect the "swagger" of their head coach

You would have no qualms with Jauron if the Bills were 3-2 instead of 1-4. Our best players are injured, the offense had a scheme that didn’t quite work out as planned. Some of the yound players (D Bell) weren’t as mentally ready as the Bills’ needed them to be. You really think if Jauron was swearing at the refs and the players IN PUBLIC the team would play better? Ridiculous. Just because Jauron seems ho-hum on TV does not say anything about how he deals with his players behind the scenes. This is their job, and they are all adults. It is really a juvenile approach to coaching to think expletive filled rants and chair throwing are any way to motivate a team for any length of time. Maybe Jauron should bring in a tree tump and axe as a motivational tool, see if Moorman can hit himself in the leg.

Absurdity. Jauron is not a great football head coach at this point, probably never will be. That has nothing to do with his demeanor, but has a lot to do with his ability to find assistant coaches he can depend on.

by syrbillsfan on Oct 16, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's not much of an argument when you only include the successful coaches for comparison

There have been plenty of “passionate” douchebags that suck as NFL head coaches. There have also been “passionless” coaches who have won it all. The Bills have had plenty of the passionate fool type. If there is reason for Cowher et al’s success, it has nothing to do with their screaming, salivating rages. In any case, those coaches may have won even more if they composed themselves a bit on the sidelines. Jauron has his faults, but this argument is tired and flawed.

by syrbillsfan on Oct 16, 2009 1:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My last thought on this
“You really think if Jauron was swearing at the refs and the players IN PUBLIC the team would play better? Ridiculous….Maybe Jauron should bring in a tree tump and axe as a motivational tool, see if Moorman can hit himself in the leg.”

See above when I said

“I didn’t mean to imply that I think if Jauron threw a chair at Roscoe we would turn this thing around.”
I didn’t even say that I think this is Jauron’s main problem as a coach, but that his team does not respond to his personality, and his personality frustrates the hell out of me as a fan. Simple as that. There is an area in between a “salivating rage” and completely devoid of any emotion. And I do think that a coach’s personality impacts whether or not the team truly buys into that coach’s system and leaves it all out on the field every Sunday. Valid point about the lack of solid assistant coaches, but the head coach picks those right? Also valid point that there have been a lot of passionate coaches who are terrible. DJ’s personality has just always rubbed me the wrong way, and perhaps writing a post 2 min. after watching his post-game conference may have caused me to put slightly more weight on the personality factor than was deserved.
