Bills/Jets: Final Predictions with Gang Green Nation
It's Saturday, which means that it's prediction day here at Buffalo Rumblings. Tomorrow afternoon, the Buffalo Bills will look to end a three-game losing streak (and an eight-game divisional losing streak) in what can only be described as shocking fashion by emerging victorious from The Meadowlands with a victory over the New York Jets - who have lost two straight games themselves.
I asked John B, lead blogger at SB Nation's Jets blog, Gang Green Nation, for his final prediction for tomorrow's game. His prediction is after the jump, along with my own - and, as usual, we'd love to hear your predictions as well.
John B's game prediction:
This could not have been a pleasant week at Jets practice. Rex Ryan was furious after the way the Jets finished the game against Miami. I get the impression he's taken his team to boot camp this week. I see the defense taking out its frustrations on Trent Edwards and forcing some turnovers. I also see the Jets getting their run game going on their way to a much-needed win. Jets 24, Bills 10
My prediction:
Let's face it - Buffalo doesn't exactly match up well with anyone at the moment, but their worst nightmare right now is taking on a physical offensive line, talented running backs, and aggressive, hard-hitting defenses that are creative in the way attack you and violent when the attack occurs. That's exactly what the Jets are. I have hopes that Buffalo's ability to play better-than-expected football in New Jersey over the past five years continues to be a trend. I just don't see how they can escape with a win. Jets 31, Bills 13
Your predictions, as always, are encouraged in the comments section.

I see us losing 31-3, as I don’t expect us to be able to move the ball at all. Trent isn’t getting anything done right now, and I expect the Jets to pack the box on first and second down and throw the kitchen sink at Trent on third down, which is generally a very good recipe to beating us.

I’m enough of a contrarian to believe that the Bills may make a real game out of this one. They usually do best when everyone has written them off. However, I’m enough of a realist to understand that they will always find a way to lose, and the prospect of Jamon Meredith (who could turn out to be a terrific RT in the future) starting this week with so little experience in the NFL or on this team has me very worried. Last week I predicted the Browns by 3 points and turned out to be exactly right. This week I’m going to be brave or reckless (take your choice) and say the Jets by a TD, with the game close through the first three quarters.

Unfortunately I agree with everything here. That is why I will be playing NHL 10 on my 360 instead of watching or listening to the game. The Bills have been so bad I don’t even want to play Madden anymore.

ha me either, they went down to a 73 with the new roster update yesterday. I use the Broncos a lot now because of the afl charlie brown jerseys.

Frankly, I don’t have a problem with us starting Jamon Meredith, as he’s a terrific athlete for a big man with a strong hand punch, but that say more about the horrific job Kirk Chambers has done of protecting Trent. God knows I have said this sentence way too many times, but I’ll say it yet again: Hopefully, this is the week, where we see Trent not be afraid in there and in other words not be afraid to throw it down the field early and often.

I'm interested to see
What Whitner and Poz will bring back to this defense. There’s no point in watching the games just to bash the Bills, so I’m going to take Brian’s survival guide with me to the couch on Sunday, and watch the game for specific things. Will Meredith get punished out there? How will our line hold up against the blitz? Can AVP show some creativity calling plays and make some things happen even though we are clearly overmatched on that side of the ball? Can our special teams respond from some dreadful outtings and produce a game-changing play, or at the very least solid play? I mean we might as well analyze the talent we have and see who can make some plays.

Agreed
I agree with Brian that it should be a two score game. As I’m living in NYC now, it would be that much sweeter to be wrong. I think an unexpected win here, although not likely, would be a good start to washing the awful taste out of everyone’s mouths. GO BILLS.

I second this.
Half of the 6 points will come from our Defense creating turnovers. Our pathetic offense will once again be limited to one field goal.
I have nothing left to say, these Bills have sucked me dry of any hope. Loosing to a team that completes 2-17 for 23y with 1 INT, that is beyond pitiful!

Bills 28- Jets 24
Yes, i think the Bills start their run this week. 10-6, still think it’s entirely possible.

more than funny
After seeing what the Bills laid on the field the last 3 weeks, do you really think anything but a 20-30 point loss to the Jets will happen? 38-10 would be a safe pick. Special teams TD and thats it again…The Bills just plain suck.

i hope they can score more than 10 points, and i predict a win. 14-10

Jets 27 Bills 10.
The Bills actually score first… with a field goal. And then get a late POS TD.

Bills will have a chance to win……play up to the competition, yet choke…….ah good times.

I think the JEts offense is not that scary, so I think with Poz and Whitner back in the lineup and Cotchery out, the Bills can keep this game managable…..its all up to Trent, and if the line can do anything….if not…it will be bad…but my prediction for a Bills’ loss is:
17-6 Jets
17-10 Bills
I am not sure if that will make sense to some, but I think if the Bills win, that Jets will score a TD less….and if the JEts win, they score a TD more, and the Bills are held to a couple lousy FGs
Good Luck With Your Firings Mr. Wilson….Go Bills!

another level of hell
There is really only one more degradation we can suffer. A shutout. After the Fins ran all over the Jets, Ryan will have his D playing “well done” mean. We can’t even handle “medium rare” mean.
I see it 21-0 Jets. Jets’ time of possession and rushing yardage will be the weapons of mass destruction.

I predicted the offense would come back against Miami after stinking against New Orleans.
Then I predicted the offense would come back against Cleveland after stinking against Miami.
One of these weeks, I’ll be right.
I predict the offense will come back after stinking against Cleveland. We score four TDs (one on a pick by Sanchez), and pull off a stunner: 31-24.

as the only one here who predicted the pathetic “snooze fest”(exact quote) last week, this week I’m seeing game 1 vs NE all over again. Remember game 1, when everyone here predicted a blowout? Well I see the Bills shocking everyone by hanging tough through 4 quarters, minus the Leodis/Parrish gaffes. Bills 31-28. Getcha popcorn(or bag) ready!

The funnest part of these threads is reading the predictions of delusional people.
The second funnest part is watching the Bills prove that such predictions are often not that far from reality.

Even if the Bills win, they lose.
Does it really matter? This is the first time in my 30+ years as a Bills fan I have given up hope. Poor me. Thanks for ripping the heart out of Bills fans Mr. Wilson and may your money keep you warm.

There is far too much negativity on this site that is supposed to be supporting the Bills. Yes, last week was awful, but one thing we know about these Bills is that they often surprise us when we think they are absolutely terrible (think last year’s win at Denver, when we put up 3 points and lost to lowly San Fran at home the week before)….how great would it be to see the Bills on ESPN’s The Blitz, with Berman opening, with “The PO’d Jets are upset after Monday night’s heartbreaker, and were supposed to come back home and clobber the inept Bills, right??….Well that’s why they play the games!”
The Bengals are in first right now, so crazier things can happen, right? Let’s be positive, and see if we can’t pull out a win to put us right back in the race….I’m not giving up hope till we are mathematically out of it….I’m copying Thurman’s pick:

the Frank Reich greatest comeback against the Oilers
but that was a far superior team, with a backup quarterback that was better than Trent Edwards on his best day.
But I agree 100% with K. 99.9% of the time, they’ve let us down in the past. What kind of Kool-Aid is McGee24 drinking., that would lead him to believe anything different is going happen on Sunday.
It’s one thing to be optimistic, it’s another to be foolishly (out of his fu!% #*g mind), optimistic about an organization that has given us absolutely no reason to feel optimistic. Let’s face it, from the general manager down to the players and college scouts were bringing an inferior product to the field.
And don’t bring up the injuries, because every organization has to deal with those. Has it hurt us… yes, but we were inferior prior to all the injuries.
I’m a lifelong fan, but I’m also a realistic fan who feels like he’s been fed the same old song and dance for too many years by an organization that’s reverted back to one of the laughing stocks of the NFL. I’ll be watching every play on Sunday, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, but the smart money is on the Jets.

well i called last weeks snoozefest with field goals…but i just dont see how the bills can pull it out without a serious change in the way that TE is playing football. My recipe for success, or at least to avoid embarrasement, give the ball to Marshawn and Freddy on every offensive play. Dont even let TE throw the football seeing as he doesnt throw it past the LOS anyway we might as well run the football and kill the clock and hope for some inspired play by our defense.
Jets – 27
Bills – 6

I don't know how the Bills can generate any offense....
…..until the O Line shapes up, and they don’t have a defense that can win games by themselves. I hope I’m very surprised, but I don’t hold out much much hope for this game. I’m thinking 27 – 3 Jets.

Bills 13 - Jets 38
Sanchez has a coming out party, Bills D falls flat on it’s face, offense continues to struggle. This team is horrible. We lost to the BROWNS even while only allowing 23 total passing yards. I can’t emotionally invest in this team right now, what would be the point. I’ll be watching, but I’m expecting the Bills to make Sanchez look like Tom Brady in ’07.
