Inactive Thoughts: Week 6

For the first time this season I was a perfect 7 for 7 last week.  Paul Posluszny, Donte Whitner, Bryan Scott, and Chris Ellis were not going to play.  Also inactive were Steve Johnson, Jamon Meredith, and Ellis Lankster

This week Poz and Whitner should be back on the starting defense and Jamon Meredith takes his first NFL snaps starting at RT.  The question not becomes who sits for them?  Here's my list in order of least likely to play to most likely:

Star-divide

Bryan Scott and Jonathan Scott have been ruled out.

Steve Johnson
For whatever reason he seems like the 53rd guy on the roster.

Todd Johnson
With the return of Whitner, the newly signed Johnson will be inactive this week.

Keith Ellison
I want to put Chris Draft's name here but with Ellison not practicing yesterday it's hard to believe he'll give it a go tomorrow.  He said "I'll be alright," to buffalobills.com's Chris Brown but I'm not buying it.

Chris Ellis
Ellis returned to the team after the sudden loss of his mother but it won't get him activated.  He hasn't been up for a game all year.

Justin Jenkins
Now that more players are off the injured list, Jenkins should be a healthy scratch once again.

Other names you might see: You may see Draft in place of Ellison.  If the Bills value the special teams contributions of Jenkins, John McCargo could find himself inactive once again.  Josh Reed did not practice Friday but has a history of playing through pain if he is able.  If Reed can't go it's another way for Jenkins to find himself in uniform at 4:15 tomorrow.

Off the list from last week: Whitner, Posluszny, Meredith

its going to be good

to have Poz and Whinter back for the jets passing attack. I think this game would have been funnier if we had played Cleveland with Braylon then they trade him and we played him again. I think it would be the first time in NFL history a team played the same player two weeks in a row.

On a side note, the Bears cut TE Michael Gaines. Hey, we need a tight end. He had his moments didn’t he? I think hes worth a flier.

The no huddle is gone, please sign tackles Runyan, Jones or Walker

The stupidity of not activating and USING Steve Johnson when the team is obviously out of contention for the playoffs and needs to develop its young talent is astounding beyond words. Nonetheless, I am sure you are right that this worthless coaching staff will make the same mistake again.

If Trent can't get the ball to Lee and TO

what makes you think that Johnson would do jack squat? The only thing they’d be developing is his special teams skills.

He’s a very good slot receiver who could be used for the 10 to 15 yard intermediate throws that Trent should be able to make. In effect, his role is different from that of Evans and Owens (they could be used that way too, but it doesn’t seem to happen). It’s true we have been dwploying only 2 WR’s at a time. According to Mark Gaughn, the Bills ran an asounding 49 plays with 2 WR’s last week, and only 15 with 3 WR’s. No wonder Trent has no targets. They need to give him more guys to throw to and less max protect. Otherwise, what are you max protecting for?

A very good slot receiver....

Since when? The guy has proven nothing and has definitely not shown he’s a slot receiver.

Where did all this Steve Johnson as a great slot receiver love come from? The guy belongs on the outside, not in the slot.

Either way, can we PLEASE see the man take the field?

Honestly DJ, the season is shot, you know your done, do the honorable thing and play all the kids all the time. I can put up with crud play if its all the kids who will still be around next year and needing the time on the field.

As my mother once said, common sense isn't as common as it should be, I'm looking at you Fewell, common sense says to play UP on the line against the slant.

I thought the consensus was that he was shifty with good hands but not fast. Did I make that up in my head? Either way, you’re right, he hasn’t proven anything yet. But I would like to see him try.

I’m guessing Lankster will again be inactive

Yeah he has been inactive a bunch. It will probably come down to Lankster vs. Jenkins and Kenkins will win.
