James Ihedigbo - what do YOU think?

note: i posted this fanpost verbatim over at Gang Green Nation. read their comments at this link, and feel free to transfer some of the jets commentary to the bills.

i'm going to start this fanpost by pointing out that i'm a Bills fan. i'm also going to say that i've watched the jets for years, and root for them when they don't play buffalo =)

as many people saw in yesterday's game, James Ihedigbo (and another player, whose name escapes me) got into a tussle with bills' starting TE Derek Fine. ihedigbo threw a punch, which was (in my opinion) possibly the worst single decision of the day by any player on either team. this is saying something considering the poor quality of play on both sides of the ball for both teams. the penalty cost the team fifteen yards, and was directly responsible for giving the bills good field position late in the game.

what should be done about him? i know he was ejected, which was a good call in a game that was extremely poorly officiated. do you think he should be fined, or possibly even cut from the team? i don't think i'm going out on a limb when i say that the jets are a smash-mouth football team, but that's taking the method and turning it into a bit of madness, don't you think?

so, discuss. what should the jets do about Ihedigbo? and, beyond that, what should be done - in terms of coaching, t-rex and elsewhere - to prevent that from happening again?

Poll

i’ve watched the jets for years, and root for them when they don’t play buffalo =)

I feel dirty just reading that….

my brother-in-law is a jets fan, and have watched them quite a bit. i’m still a bills guy through-and-through – i grew up in clarence, a half-hour from orchard park – but i enjoy watching the jets when there isn’t another game on tv.

oh, it could be worse. if he was a patriots fan, i think the relationship wouldn’t have ever started =)

he’s the best jets fan i’ve ever met – likes the bills too, isn’t unreasonable (like i can be sometimes), and is fun to watch any game with. i can live with that as long as he doesn’t live with me!

I believe this dude and Dante Wesley need to get fined for their moronic actions on Sunday

by Parrish11rules on Oct 19, 2009 9:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Wesley needs a lengthy suspension

That was intentional, disgusting and aimed at hurting Clifton Smith.

Fine him

Wasn’t Adrian Murrell (#94) the one that connected though? From what I saw, and I could be wrong, it looked like Murrell was the one that connected with a right hook…

I remember from the replay it was 94 that connected

Yes.

But Ihedigbo is incredibly lucky he didn’t connect. If he lands that punch there’s a good chance that Fine’s career or life is over.

you’re correct – it was 94 who actually bopped him. it looked like more of a chest-pop, though, ihedigbo was obviously trying to knock him out.

I do wonder...

…if the ejection was a make-up call for the refs not calling a penalty earlier on the play where the Jets tried to twist off the head of a defenseless Trent Edwards. I fully expected the swing to be 15. I was a little surprised with the ejection.

That's an ejection every single time it happens

in every sport

That was no makeup call

exactly

fighting is always ejected, and swinging a punch is fighting.

i thought the other

jets player threw a more unacceptable punch

The no huddle is gone, please sign tackles Runyan, Jones or Walker

by poz on Oct 22, 2009 7:06 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That is true. Ihedigbo was the one that was ejected but the other guy landed one.

the first guy was pissed, but he didn’t take a swing at the back of an unhelmeted player’s head. BIG difference. both get you thrown out. one gets a fine, and one gets you benched for the year and probably for good (since you lost so much playing time early in your career).

Rex Ryan “suspended” both of them. He’s supposedly letting neither travel to Oakland this weekend, so they’ll obviously both be inactive….

interesting to know. i wouldn’t want to be chewed out by t-rex, that’s for sure.

i’m assuming they’ll lose a game check, then. significant cash for either of them.
