Bills workout former Colt DT Ed Johnson, and others
I would sign this guy and dump McCargo. Johnson was a starter for Indy for the last 4 games and was surprisingly cut last week. The Colts say it was performance, but it may also be related to a grievance filed by Johnson the last time he was released by them. Johnson probably has a much brighter future than McCargo at this point....
Per a league source, Johnson was among six defensive linemen who worked out for the Bills on Tuesday. The others were Marlon Favorite, Antwan Lake, Joshua Leonard, Langston Moore, and Rodrique Wright.
This might also mean Kyle Williams may be hurt worse than we've heard.

Haven't Heard Williams's injury update.
This is suspicious. We have only played with three DT’s this season. McCargo will have to play some if Williams loses any amount of time. Losing Stroud or Williams IMO is as big as Butler and or Schouman. Lets hope for the best. Remember our LB’s aren’t at full strength either. Could this be where we switch to some form of a 3-4 front, with Harris taking the week side? I am thinking McCargo would be okay for a few games, but over a season he wouldn’t hold up. A few games as relief/rotation. Good topic to follow. Hope Williams is okay, and hope they can do something before the season wears on Stroud as well.

McCargo played this past week
Obviously, he didn’t have much of an impact….

You can’t play a 3-4 if you don’t have 4 linebackers.

Not looking good for Williams then. The Bills have players in every Tuesday for workouts but it’s usually not this heavy on one position is it?

Ed Johnson would immidiately help us out at DT, as he’s a big run-stopper. He might be a lazy slob at times, but he’s still a very solid run-stopper, which our current DT’s apparently aren’t

I heard that KC tried to get rid of Glenn Dorsey, who is not a fit in their 3-4.
I think it would’ve been a very good idea to trade for him. I don’t know, maybe a 3rd would’ve been enough for a huge talent.
I know that is the past, but what do you guys think that?

A third is probably too steep for the Bills. They have three guys they are paying very good money and a fourth making a very good salary, too. Adding a fifth guy to that or even replacing McCargo with Dorsey ties a lot of money up at one position.

How can you not grab someone like Dorsey for a 3rd?
Is his contract really that prohibitive? The better question is would he be an upgrade to what we have, especially if Williams will be out for awhile.

I don’t think it fills a need for this team.
7/26/2008: Signed a five-year, $33 million contract. The deal includes $22.5 million guaranteed. Another $18 million is available through incentives. 2009: $385,000, 2010: $983,500, 2011: $1,582,250, 2012: $2.181 million, 2013: $2.75 million (Option Year), 2014: Free Agent
I guess it wouldn’t be too bad from the Bills end if he was going to be playing. But that’s without giving up the third rounder for him. Shouldn’t that be spent on a guy who will be better than our third best DT (at best)?

If Williams is out for a good amount of time Dorsey would instantly become our 2nd best DT.
Stroud is no spring chicken, so I would not feel bad about picking up Dorsey’s contract. I think he would prove to be worth it by next year at the latest. This is the type of gamble the Bills should be taking rather than with someone like Johnson. Young player with a good attitude and lots of untapped potential. Dorsey could be a stud with the Bills.

Not for the Bills. I’d bet that Kansas City was asking for at least a 2nd rounder and maybe a first for Dorsey because his contract makes it tough on KC since they’ve already invested so much money in him and the cap hit would be pretty crazy for trading away a first rounder this early into his contract.

that sounds more likely
What would you give up for Dorsey? Given then the Bills will likely pick in the high 2nd round, I am not sure if I would give them that much for him, but I would do a 3rd in a heart beat.

I think it doesn't matter what we think.
I believe OBD has sent a message that they are not going to trade to upgrade thier roster. There has been alot of talk about trading current players, some reporters have suggested such as well. None of this has happened. I read that the front office believes that the current roster is our best chance to make a playoff run. I know alot of us don’t believe this, but to me that is the only logical explanation.
I expected a four man rotation at DT when the season started. I expected this mainly because these guys get abused over sixteen games. We can’t afford that. Then we only played three until McCargo’s time this past weekend.
In defense of the FO there really hasn’t been any big name trades or swapping of draft picks for another player, same as Runyan and Jones. We will work the unemployment line and practice squads to help bolster this team. Next years draft, we will have anywhere from 7-10 picks coming. Not sure if we need more than that.

There is another explanation… that nobody is trading anybody worth anything.

Of course Buffalo is going to say that. Which team would ever say their current roster isn’t good enough after 6 games? The Bills are obviously going to say that their roster is the best they can put together and their best chance of winning regardless of what they really think and what they are trying to do behind closed doors.

Looks more like an audition for the future.
So many of these things sound to good to be true and then there is no action. Reading the transaction wire, I’ve seen teams sign players on a daily basis at various postions and wonder what our hold up is. The only thing I can summize is we like what we have more than bring someone else in and the risk of some of these bigger name FA’s are carring to much baggage for the value they are seeking.

We’ve signed a bunch of players. Meredith, Draft, Johnson… we’ve signed guys off our practice squad like Stupar.
